Alterac Valley in Classic

Agreed.

We tried very hard to create a battle experience that felt like Warcraft; we want you to feel like you are part of a larger conflict, with the potential for lots of strategy and tactics beyond a simple mob of players crashing into each other.

After all the dissapointments of retail and having no way of having an epic war anymore in World of WARcraft, not doing 1.5 is a massively catastrophic missed opportunity.

Please, please, please do 1.5 AV, it’s such a unique game mode for an MMO, a battle you can’t experience IN ANY OTHER GAME in existence currently. There’s absolutely no reason to go 1.12 except convenience for people who’d rather play retail WoW anyway.

Implementing the spirit of 1.5 AV is a tremendous opportunity to show your die-hard passionate Classic fanbase that you really care about giving us what we’ve been dreaming for years.

This sounds like a retail player…

I thought retail players were the folks who complained so much blizzard changed the game?

Isn’t that what most of the classic community has been complaining about? Retail players who whine to get their way?

They’re using 1.12 as the patch. Yes they’re gating stuff. But when we hit phase six, I hope it’s 1.12 AV because that’s authentic.

Be it 1.5 or 1.12 both are authentic.

I am confused by that question. Why do you imagine AV was changed from what it was in 1.5 to what it was in 1.12.

That’s the exact thought that popped in my head when I first read that.

By the way, yes 1.12 is authentic. I’ve never once said it isn’t. And it won’t keep me from playing Classic. It will, however, keep me from playing AV. Because it offers nothing I haven’t already experienced hundreds of times. I won’t set foot in that place if it uses that version.

The only thing that would hold any interest for me would be the mount…but I know me. I’ll just feel disappointed and look around the battleground and see nothing but a wasted opportunity. So I’ll just avoid it altogether.

Are we mind reading each other here, or is this something obvious?
{looks over should} Do you think we should be talking in front of them?

Love AV.
I remember in wrath at level 70 av bg, it was very crazy you had warlocks spamming seed of corruption killing 10-40 players with their high dps explosions.

I hope that harder npcs will return because we don’t really need an isl of conquest version of av. Isl of conquest was fun when it first came out but, eventually fealt like an empty bg, where one side that rushes just sits at the gate waiting for it to come down while they don’t even have anyone attacking it do to nerf to bombs a long time ago.

Well anything but 1.12 please, there is a lot of vocal about it.
Remember in classic we aren’t gods that massacre 20 npcs without going below half in health and mana.

I am very sad reading this, I just want to summon Icy one more time! Can you please do an old school AV event, that we could queue into??? I would love to experience it like I remember. The 1.12 version feels like BG, where the earlier one feeling like an entire zone where an epic battle takes place.

Blizzard drinks in your suffering mortal, since Lok never will. RIP Lok and Ivus. We will pretty much never summon them in 1.12 AV the games will end too fast, no one is going to bother to do turn ins. I thought maybe when av first came out in classic you might get some games with enough non-60’s that it might happen but now that we know by the time bgs come out every server will be full of 60’s in 1.12 pvp gear so much for that.

I know this is near a week late, sorry for latency but this is the “Path of Least Resistance Gaming Fallacy”.

Can turtles be forced? Yes. Does it happen? Time to time but not often. Can we build a premade to make sure it happens? Yes but that then requires serious leadership and working around the system in a manner which is not promoted by Blizzard.

In general however the BG is going to be a zerg fest most of the time. Why? Because zerging works. Because if you are going to win you want to win fast, if you are going to lose you want to get it over with even faster.

Path of least resistance is based on the mentallity of the human brain. We are trained from an early age to use the tools we have at our disposal to achieve our goals as quickly as possible.

The best example of this was the great flight debacle of WoD. My server, Emerald Dream, was over 90% AGAINST FLIGHT. But the overall population of wow was pro flight and won. When it was introduced, our server for the most part attained it immediately. Why? Because it offered easier access to locations, faster travel and a WPVP advantage. To not get it was gimping yourself compared to your competition and it was slowing your ability to get things done by a large margin.

Just wanted to chime in and say I would prefer the version of AV that gave way to days-long battles. Nothing like fighting in AV all day, going to sleep, then waking up to the same battle still going on and constantly developing. Felt like true war as opposed to a quick zerg battle.

Original Alterac Valley was an amazing thing. The first time I joined one of those epic battles and summoned Lokholar for the win, it was an instant addiction. Nothing else in WoW has ever resembled this and nothing else ever will.

If Bliz turns this into another 15 minute grind, I’m out. I won’t even consider a free trial. It’s not that the entire game rests on this one battle ground, it’s that Blizzard doesn’t understand why it’s doing this. They have no feel for it at all.

One of the things I did in classic was farm furbogs…for weeks or possibly months (don’t remember)…to obtain a healer trinket. I played a hunter and heals for us were non-existent so the ability to summon a personal healer was really cool. It took a LOT of time and effort but almost no one had it and I did. Great success!

What does it take now? Is it even in game anymore? The last time I checked, maybe a decade ago, it took maybe 3-4 hours. AV was kind of the only reason I cared about this project. Looks like it’s a fail. Too bad.

If we work hard we will be able to do all summons that will still exist - you can do this in retail now. Right now the summons don’t mean much because 2 minutes after the summon happens, reinforcements end and game over.

Right now you need a dedicated group of people specifically eschewing all other objectives just to get this done, and this is pretty rare. Basically it is just for the hell of it (I don’t play myself, but you can see some of these vids on youtube - Rextroy specifically organises fun things in BGs).

Without reinforcements we will definitely be able to do all the summons, if there is a dedicated enough group that focuses on this and forces the game to go this way. What this will cause is a huge amount of toxicity from the rep-grinders and instant gratification crowd who want to max honour/hour who want a fast zerg game.

So the issue is going to be: will there be enough people willing to purposefully slow the game down to enjoy it the way it was intended? I think we all know the answer to that (herding cats and all that).

Figures, Blizzard never listens, AV 1.12 instead of 1.5, I hope all you suckers that wanted 1.12 gets tired of people blitzing and you quit.

Remember you are only one patch from the AV you have now and 1.12 is NOT the patch you all remember or love.

Some want the blitz. The rest won’t know the difference.

FEW want the zerg rush version. More want the original 1.5 layout. Likely even more just ignoring the topic overall.

I do not mean to be rude Kaivax but the reasons stated in this thread are weak. They go against the design philosophy that was introduced to us in Blizzcon 2018. They also lack substance even.

Kaivax, if the developers do not have the coding for 1.5-1.8 AVs, then just tell us. Many like myself know and understand that, as stated in Blizzcon 2018, some of the code for Vanilla was lost due to the imperfect patching system used back then.

I am certain more players would be understanding if you guys stated that the coding for AVs prior to 1.12 AV were lost due to a patching system from roughly 14 years ago. IF that is the real reason that is.

If lost coding is not the reason you guys are not going with 1.5 or 1.8 AVs then what is? This is the one blue sticky with the MOST replies and the LEAST amount if likes by a LARGE margin. And a dominant source of said replies are either angry or disappointed.

I feel that using 1.12 AV is a bad decision. People that never played Vanilla will still never get the chance to experience AV at it’s fullest. The NPCs in 1.5 force both teams to actually work as teams to progress thru the battleground. That need for team work is greatly reduced in 1.12. AV 1.5 is a epic battle. AV 1.12 is not a epic battle.
