That is the puzzling thing; so many who claim to not care… and do so quite vocally. Why post anything at all? I mean there are plenty of things that I don’t care about the status of. I tend to at most just look at the arguments and go on my merry way, if I look at them at all.
Indeed.
I don’t post on topics I don’t care about. Some people just like to feel involved I guess. We also do live in an “outrage” society, where people tend to insert themselves into issues they have no real interest in, maybe out of boredom or maybe from just being unfulfilled in their own lives and they need something to make them feel again.
One of the surest ways to feel important is to be in an argument/discussion, because you are garnering attention. The reason for that is not important, the feeling is. It is why we have to many disaffected people simply turning to the internet to argue for something they have no interest in.
Not everyone who does it is a troll - that implies malicious intent. Some people just want to be noticed.
I never had the opportunity to run the original AV when it was considered to be at its most fun. In original WoW, the character I was running BGs with most frequently, an alliance rogue, basically stopped at 49 since I was having more fun with BGs than leveling. So I decked that character out in the best loot I could afford, where I was an herbalist/miner, and enchanted everything I could. I was essentially a twink before even knowing other people were doing that. So I had stopped my leveling before AV even opened up for me to try.
When I originally heard AV was changing, it seemed like I missed out on something, and by the time I played characters in TBC that could run it, I didn’t find the sprint to the other boss all that much fun. I wanted to do the other objectives in there, but was scolded by the players who were there to rush.
So I’m on board with those that want the epic AV experience. We already have a rush-mode AV, and there’s a no-longer functioning Ashran. AV would be a PvP playground. Where else would people be able to summon the large bosses? I participated in the Hillsbrad tug-of-war on the horde side, which was a blast, but it had no objective like AV did.
Old Av please
I would have much preferred the non-rush AV. It felt like an actual battle with objectives that actually had impact and were worth sending strike teams after.
Even people that weren’t particularly good with PVP had a place in taking forts, gathering supplies, and being back line defense for the more hardcore PVP players.
1.12 AV was just a sad turn of events when it turned into a base rush. Hopefully Blizzard reconsiders and gives us a BATTLEground.
I remember when one game of AV could take all day long. I thought that was fun. It really meant something when one of those matches ended. But I’m probably alone in the fond memories of that version of AV.
You are not alone man - the original AV was my favorite part of the vanilla.
Between this thread, the one on the EU forum, and the other threads, you are anything but alone.
Ditto. Seems we aren’t going to get that however. I wonder if they even still have all the data and changes from 1.5 era? That has never been confirmed (although they hinted at having more than ‘we lost things before 1.12 data’), right?
The thing about 1.5 (and the original design) there should be SOME kind of set of design notes, plans, etc from before they even started coding it. Things like that are not just tossed together on the fly with zero preparation, and then rewritten data-wise. There had to have been meetings, discussions, and actual written/typed notes and minutes.
Oh the irony! I keep thinking the same thing. The problem is that supreme rulers will not consider reason when choosing who in the populous is right. Their bias will favor those who agree with their current idea. The undoubtedly superior reasoning of 1.12 AV antagonists means nothing in the face of such favor.
How can justice prevail when the judges, who need to listen the most, are already convinced that they “know better” than any argument presented, even though the current situation is an indirect admittance that they surely do not?
Again, who would have guessed back months ago that we would literally have to fight for things like early AV and RPPVP realms?
I was never sure on AV to be honest. I never thought it would be 1.12. I figured it would be what patch of old av we would get. As far as rppvp realms Its honestly a giant wtf. It would seem like a no brainer.
1.12 pretty much closer to bfa then 1.5.
I’d pretty much want any older version before 1.12 that makes it harder to just zerge into frostwolf keep and kill drek without capping towers and gave enough time to allow us to summon elementals to make a final push to destroy our enemies turtles.
I think you would appreciate 1.7
I would have preferred the original ]=
I just love that we are going to have something like vanilla wow. I’d actually take almost anything Pre-BC
why would cross realm need to have been removed for that to be valid? hilarious to see you bumble around your words like the fool you are though

Early on in AV, there were too many NPCs and they were too hard to kill. By 1.12, many had been removed and NPC health was brought down to a reasonable level. Turning in armor scraps is an encouraged, supportive activity by this point. Many capture points (mostly graveyards) had been moved away from their initial placements to gain better balance across the map. Korak the Bloodrager was removed, and killing opposing players no longer drops items like Dwarf Spines, Orc Teeth, or Human Bone Chips. Gross.
-
The point of all those NPC’s in a BATTLEground in the World of WARcraft was to make it seem like a war between the factions and not a skirmish between players. There were a lot but not too many.
-
Them being hard to kill WAS THE POINT. If you could just walk up and stomp them, they wouldn’t be all that important or needed (sort of like they’re gone now because you guys nerfed them into pointlessness… see how that works?)
-
Turning in armor scraps in 1.12 AV is pointless at this point because this is the patch that introduced and encouraged the “Zerg the boss” strategy that has plagued this battleground since 1.12. If nothing else, 1.12 DIScouraged turning in items.
-
Korak should never have been removed. A point where something that is aggressive to both sides and both sides had to fight it to gain a significant advantage added more strategy and tactical decision making to the battleground. But, again, this is where AV was being turned into its modern day mindless adaptation.

The fact that you could loot body parts from opposing players was awesome and realistic (and lootig body parts was something did in basically ever quest of the game…). It was a part of that whole RPG element you guys forgot about over time in favor of instant gratification mechanics and catering to China’s sensitivity requirements. These things were awesome and made for amazing trophies and collectibles. Gross? Get out of here.
1.12 was the deathknell to this battleground’s identity, flavor, and experience. It helped sweep away all the things that made it truly unique and memorable in favor of making it quick and more instantaneously gratifying to those with shorter attention spans.
Reconsider using this version. And reconsider having someone on the team that thinks looting body parts in a game where basically every quest requires you to loot body parts is gross.
Well yeah NPCs in av were meant for immersion, av is so big but always empty in the wrong areas.
Npcs definitely need to be harder to kill to bring the war element to it.
