But, that’s kind of what looks like is going on, it always looks like it’s meant to be super obvious.
I guess it’s unavoidable, since in order to actually show the audience that a character is gay, the writers have to either use stereotypes that would end up being comical, or make everything the character does have to do with their gay relationship, just so that there isn’t any confusion about what their sexuality is just in case it mattered.
So really this is just a foot in the door to take over franchises with politics, because nothing will ever be enough. They’ll just keep demanding more until it’s a romance novel and not a story about Azeroth.
I don’t know. Having to sprinkle LGBT politics onto of what we already eat sounds like a needless complication to suit certain taste buds.
It’d be like going forward with my preference of killing the Alliance and Horde leaders like they’re no less touchable than the common foot-slogger. We might be better off and my bloodlust quenched but then who’d be left to lead either side?
That is you interpreting others’ reaction as hateful bias and phobic behavior. Some of what I have read is kind of sketchy.
But I’m pretty sure the majority of the flags are due to the fact that the OP and other posters are ignoring the simple facts presented to them in favor of complaining/crying to get more special treatment.
The comment above mentioned having just a simple quest where a man and his husband tend to a farm and need help. We already have quests and texts and even books with this level of detail, but its still not enough. People don’t want to read and explore the world. The want something flashy and obvious, which is going to end up a botched stereotype that you yourself will hate and resent.
Do you really trust the current writing team to include a nonhetero lead character in the next expansion? Did you see their idea of morally grey?
I suggest you use the little spyglass in the corner of your page and do a search for this topic. It isn’t the first thread. There was one thread that actually included a list of all the LGBTQ characters in WoW, and it was not two lines long.
Any further arguments come off looking hostile, ignorant, and lazy.
Let’s be honest m8, bigots and gamers™ will get riled up at any mention of minority or women in games at this point, it isnt hard to bait such easily baited people xD
Hell there were bigots who were mad at Disney’s worthless “representation”
We all could have met tons of gay NPCs in Azeroth that were written as intentionally gay characters, but we never knew because their homosexuality wasn’t the focus of the story.
Does it bother you that you could have met a gay NPC and they weren’t in the spotlight?
Or that their sexuality wasn’t the reason they were in the game?
Is it not okay for an NPC to be gay and not be known for being gay, but be known by their place in the lore?
But isn’t the whole point “equality”? Shouldn’t you not be able to tell who is who or have preconceived notions about minorities? Wouldn’t that be equal, to not notice people for their sexuality?
It’s like, they wanna be the same, but they want more attention. You can’t have both.
To be honest, politics should not be discussed in WoW. It’s cool that you’re proud of what you are, but no one cares. Just live your life. But if you want to connect with other lgbt, im sure reddit has a sub for you.
You have to be able to know for certain that they are LGBT, yes. You can’t represent something without anyone knowing anymore than an invisible flag can represent a country. That’s just… not what representation means, y’know?
They also seem to assume players objecting to pushing orientations into a game just to placate trolls are all straight.
Some of us just don’t want our lives used to push the politics of provocateurs.
I like seeing more women in major roles in movies, but the all women Ghostbusters was really pretty awful. Does hating that movie make me a woman-hater?
I’m sorry that you feel like a couple of “Might be gay, maybe?” and “Might be trans but only if you want to believe so because there are other equally plausible explanations” characters are the best we can do.
You’re weirdly hostile to the idea of a little bit more.
Marcus galloped on his warhorse towards the remote building, bringing an almost imperceptible flush to one of the curvier guards as he passed. He dismounted and handed his reins to the ever-present stablemaster, placing one hand on her shoulder before speaking. “Kama, have you considered our last conversation?” Marcus asked, furrowing his eyebrows in mock seriousness.
Kama rolled her eyes, her Pandaren markings exaggerating the movement. “I doubt my life-mate would think much of it.”
Marcus let out a bellowing laugh, looking over his shoulder as he walked away, “I’d still like to meet her one day!”
