9/7/2019 Server Issues

No. I mean on their forums or as a notice/alert on the bnet app…

Any updates yet? I got in but was booted when I entered an instance. Now my char. select screen is all black.

This is what $15 a month gets us. I feel bad for complaining about runescape’s $11 a month now.

:crab::crab: Jagex is powerless against scriptkiddies clans :crab::crab:

I’m trying to raise some money for sick children during Extra Life North here in Canada! DDOS terrorists don’t care about sick kids, it seems.

This is ridiculous. Blizzard needs to be way more communicative with the players about what is going on and the expected time it is going to take. A lot of servers have a queue time, so leaving and coming back in an hour to a server that is up to sit in queue for hours is a waste. or the servers not being up in an hour and sitting here logging in every time they come up for 5 seconds is also a waste. I guess this isn’t surprising though, when your company is being held hostage by a 13 year old Script Kiddie DDOSer you don’t want to admit that to your Shareholders. And honestly I doubt the DDOS story because a company like Blizzard with services that are only online should be a customer of Prolexic or some other DDOS protection company with their CEO on call. But you should tell us something because its the right thing to do. And we are getting tired of companies/politicians etc… not doing the right thing with our money/time.

And its down again =(

Those companies can’t do much against a concerted attack. The good news is, running an attack like this is expensive for the attacker as well, so it won’t last forever.

Can someone tell me if one of the issues is a fatal error #132? FOr a while I couldn’t get into battlenet. now im at the loging screen but when I attempt to login I get the fatal error. Ive opened 3 tickets over the last 2 weeks on this and the get closed with no reponse.

Thanks

Was gone for a few hours, what’s the status?

Are you really that naive?

  1. Why should a multi-national corporation be better? They have a lot more to defend.
  2. Financial institutions have failed to stop these types of attacks too. A solution for this isn’t a high level thought experiment, IMO (I’m a developer, not a security expert.) it probably takes a lot of quick and correct decisions. Decision’s you really couldn’t make unless you have deep technical knowledge of Blizzard’s tech stack, networking, and how the attack is being propagated against Blizzard. Last point in 2: what does a 30 minute warning get you?
  3. How do you know they knew about the attack beforehand? Perhaps they should have known, maybe they did know, maybe Blizzard will let us know later. I
agree that faster communication would have been appreciated. However, I doubt their public response was slowed by a lack of effort or care.

Good luck.

I find it funny how people rage and rage that that they weren’t informed when blizzard made posts not long after the problem started and even put a message on the launcher.

Then there is the group that doesn’t understand how a DDoS works and think it is a hacking attack and Blizzard should have been able to defend against it when that isn’t how a DDoS works. Heck my whole areas internet was down a full day because of a DDoS attack a few days ago. things can be done after a DDoS attack starts but not before. When a DDoS attack starts it just looks like a large increase in traffic on there end.

" DDoS is a type of DOS attack where multiple compromised systems, which are often infected with a Trojan, are used to target a single system causing a Denial of Service (DoS) attack." - Webopedia

It might be possible your own computer even has this Trojan in it and is being used as part of the attack that is the kind of nature a DDoS has.

“In a DDoS attack, the incoming traffic flooding the victim originates from many different sources – potentially hundreds of thousands or more. This effectively makes it impossible to stop the attack simply by blocking a single IP address; plus, it is very difficult to distinguish legitimate user traffic from attack traffic when spread across so many points of origin.” - Webopedia

Short, sweet, still makes me mad. Keep us updated bud.

This isn’t Blizzard PR anymore. It’s in the hands of the lawyers now. They have to be careful what they say to insure that they can take legal action when it’s all said and done.

Just got disconnected again and am getting the errors again on Bloodsail D:

THANK YOU for saying this. Too many people posting to the forum who suffer from the Dunning Kruger effect and think a DDOS is equivalent to a scrape on the elbow … as if a quick bandaid will fix. A DDOS is more equivalent to a need for open heart surgery.

Thank you for working on it, we understand its the weekend and you did not plan on doing all this work. Keep it up!

I need a heart transplant, I don’t think it is that critical. but yeah, a ddos is a very dirty trick.
