It’s WoW’s 16th Birthday, and yet despite seeing Tinkers in every single expansion we somehow don’t have them represented as any playable class whatsoever.
I Think it would be much more representative of the Universe if we were to have a single class that focused on Technology and Machinery at its forefront instead of Might or Magic.
Call it whatever you want. Tactician, Technican, Mechanist, Tinkerer.
Clearly there is a Hole in the class roster, that no other class fills.
Jokes aside, I see this class being a likely outcome in the future of World of Warcraft, And I hope you are all having a great time celebrating WoW’s 16th Birthday
As for tinkers, I’m… kind of surprised there wasn’t a class with Shadowlands. I’m not really disappointed with it, but surprised. It usually skips an expansion, yes?
Vanilla was the base game so all classes were added>TBC>Wotlk (DK)>Cata>MoP Monk)>WoD>Legion (DH)>BFA>Shadowlands (Nothing?)
Or am I the only person that considered this a normal Blizzard developmental pattern?
No, I very much consider it to be Blizzard’s usual pattern.
The fact that Shadowlands doesn’t have a new class is certainly odd given blizzard’s established pattern.
I think the lack of a New Class in shadowlands is the reason for the sudden outcry for new classes on the forums.
Personally I think the fantasy of an “Engineer” class fits very well into the Warcraft universe. So I advocate for it
I love engineering so much that every main I’ve had since vanilla has been an engineer and youre asking for an entire class based around that? Sign me up.
I tend to bring up the question on long, boring dungeon or raid runs.
“Do you think a Tinker/Engineer class would be interesting?”
The response is usually a resounding yes, or a simple “Meh” or lack of interest.
I rarely see anyone with a vitriolic hatred for idea. I tend to only encounter such nay-sayers on the forums.
I think it’s easy to assume that the Silent Majority of players would simply try the class, and keep playing it if they like it.
Right? Remember when you built your Ub3r-Spanner and then couldn’t even use it in a dungeon, how disappointing it was? Or, how the bombs you made to level Engineering did essentially no damage? Tinker could be all of that and then more! Much much more!
Tinker wouldn’t work, it would steal resources/class ideas from other classes.
Blizzard never promised classes every other expansion, that was something you assumed after a bit of time of it happening but it could stop anytime and it did now. Also how would tinker class - a mechanical themed class - tie in with shadowland’s death DK theme?
As much as I would absolutely love to see both Necromancer and Tinkerer added as new classes… I’m highly doubtful we will ever see another new playable class… simply because of how they designed Legion… even with the level squish allowing you to completely skip everything prior to BfA, the fact still remains that the way the quests were built in legion don’t really lend themselves to well to new classes… they would have to either go back and make a new class hub for each new class going forwards or create a single general hub for all future classes combined… which I honestly don’t see them doing either one… And it’s disappointing because I really want to be a Goblin Tinkerer… and I’d love to change my gnome and Mechangnome to Tinkerers too…
I disagree with this.
Engineering abilities are very limited in PvE content, and often they are entirely restricted.
Engineering bombs are all taxed with a 5 minute cooldown that they share. Making them mostly useless for consistent damage.
Engineering doesn’t really provide the fantasy of being a Combat engineer with Turrets and Mechs.
Engineering does provide the fantasy of making silly gizmos and gadgets.
It’s something different entirely.
That’s why one is a class, and the other is a profession.
Its different for sure, but not different enough to make a class out of it.
Anyway, I vehemently disagree this game should receive any new classes given the state of the ones we have year after year, so its not something I am thinking about too much.
The problem for me with both Tinker and necromancer is what would their three specs even be?
There is barely enough for a single spec it seems, and that is clearly what Demon Hunter had happen.
Just not worth it if we are going to get another low complexity over powered spec defining an entire class.
Can you Elaborate on this at all?
I don’t see how a Tinker class conflicts with any existing class.
It wouldn’t. But we aren’t getting a new class for Shadowlands.
Tinker could come after shadowlands.
Legion is now Entirely skippable content, and therefore doesn’t restrict new classes nearly as much.
Of course: This could be circumvented in another way. Tinkers could simply be given a weapon that levels with them from Hobart Grapplehammer in Dalaran.
My best memory of vanilla was crafting an item that let you take control any “Mechanical” enemy for a certain length of time and then just doing that and nothing else for literally hours. Tinker class please.
A bit of time? 16 years is a long time down the road to change the pattern.
Not sure what you’re getting at, nobody has claimed we’re “owed” anything based on a promise Blizzard didn’t make. As for it tying in with the Shadowlands, no clue, didn’t make a claim that it would/should, didn’t even claim that tinker would be the class added if there was one at all.
Edit: Simply made an observation that it was out of what we have come to expect over a decade.
