+1 I am getting the same issue with the temporary outage of the battle.net service
I also have the issue and nothing works :(. It’s a shame, I love SC 2. I understand this is a fifteen years old game but if Blizzard doesn’t announce a shutdown and still selling the game. You should be able to play the game
Just came to say I have had this problem for about a week after a fresh install. I was able to finally login to Americas through the SC2 in-game login screen (I encountered many “There is a temporary outage…” messages along the way). As others have mentioned, this is the way to login to Americas if you keep getting this error (and have already allowed the program through the firewall, reinstalled, etc.).
I didn’t have this problem a few months ago, so maybe some local update occurred that’s messed me all up, but hey at least there’s a way to get in somehow… just wanted to +1 this issue and the workaround.
Someone suggested trying to login via another device be it a laptop, desktop, whatever you can login with. I did that and for whatever reason it corrected the problem on my desktop. I changed absolutely nothing. So, no idea how that changed it, but it worked on my end. Worth a shot.
its not shut down tho, so why would blizzard need to announce it being shut down when its not shut down.
I’ve been having the same issue this past week
With all due respect, when they’re still selling that game they absolutely should have it functional in all regions that it’s being sold in, NA being one of those regions.
it is functional, its only a select few players that are running into the problem of logging in. the game has been 100% operational. and ps the majority of the complaints about logging in come from players that havent played in years. wierd huh?. why is it ever so many weeks the forums get flooded with the same complaint from countless people about how they havent played the game in a long time but all of a sudden decided to play out of no where among the 100+ other people. its like yall are bot accounts with the same mo.
Understandable, but the problem is, there’s no rule or a law or any other type of requirement to do so.
Blizzard is simply leaving SC2 available “as is” for those who choose to play it. But that comes with the additional cost of understanding and accepting the hurtles that come with choosing to play a retired game.
Some of Bliz’s oldest games are still being sold and they are essentially non functional. Bliz provides no support for them, meaning they need community made patches to get running semi decently.
What some don’t realize is that Bliz could have taken that same route with SC2 as well: let it degrade with time until it wasn’t functional any more. However, they didn’t. They still offer deprioritized support to keep it marginally functional for us.
Bootlicker Logic. They could patch in an offline mode before abandoning. Campaign is sold as unplayable for many right now. If a store sells a universal remote for all tv’s but only half are compatible after an update that breaks it you can refund it. I can buy Diablo 1 and play it until I die but blizzard has by design locked a fully functioning offline mode I purchased (just kidding I don’t own it due to some fine print bootlickers worship) behind forced online locking you out with broken updates.
Fix the update or unlock my owned game or accept you are a selfish person/company using evil loopholes to steal from users
Same issue here with the US Server. The only thing that worked was to keep trying to log in until it finally allowed me to connect. So far is all solved on my end and I can play Campaign.
Now, if Blizzards is planning on abandoning SC2, they should at least keep the single-player content intact and functional. I understand not wanting to inject money on servers and such, but there’s no reason to not make the Campaign always fully accessible offline. Even if to just offer the game “as is” without any further support.
Just wanted to throw my 2 cents on this. I have been experiencing the same issue. Wiping it with a rag didn’t work, Fresh windows install didn’t work, brute forcing by putting password in manually in the game over and over didn’t work. Then I saw and tried the suggestion of logging into a different device.
I closed the bnet app, logged into the website, approved authenticator, got in, logged out immediately.
Opened bnet, fired up SC2, got the same error message. This time however when I tried to manually log in within SC2 it then sent authenticator request, i approved it, and I’m in the game now.
Maybe this is some kind of issue with the authenticator. Did other people who use this solution also use the bnet authenticator?
SAME PROBLEM, but spamming logins worked!
The following steps did not work: EVERYTHING else SUGGESTED BY EVERYONE as well as blizzard
If it was not clear to you above that it’s not abandoned, then you didn’t bother to read before replying, or simply ignored it to conveniently fit your narrative.
Which, when it has happened in the past, it was fixed, so likely it will again. Further, there were consistent intermittent game breaking issues all through SC2’s entire life, pre and post retirement, all of which have been fixed so far. Meaning the existence of issues is no different now than it was then.
People need to make sure their analogies are analogous. Like the many others, you’re is not. A remote has no instant connection to its manufacturer that allows for fixes to be be pushed instantly en masse. If there are remotes that do have such a connection, they would be fixed via those pushes and thus not necessarily refundable.
SC2 is not fully locked behind online only play. It has an offline mode with a monthly requirement to only log in. Nothing more, just log in and log out.
This current issue of some people not being able to log in is not the result of an update.
Come now, Skarro. Again, fitting your narrative.
If you took the time to take even a cursory glance at the gaming industry, it’s quite clear that it’s not big bad Bliz going rogue with “evil” practices.
Although resorting to tired cliches like “bootlicker logic” simply because you don’t like what you’re being told is certainly your prerogative, here you displayed no logic at all in some instances and were misinformed in the rest.
I am also experiencing the same “Temporary Outage of Battle.net service” issue. I too would be one of those who haven’t played in a year and over the holidays decided to play (because SC2 is really a great game, IMHO).
I have not tried all of the suggestions posted here yet, but… I am very curious about this statement…
SC2 is not fully locked behind online only play. It has an offline mode with a monthly requirement to only log in. Nothing more, just log in and log out.
@leviathan: can you please explain more about this? I was unaware of this. I have no interest in multiplayer, I only want to play me vs Ai games (Custom Melee). Is that something that is available in offline mode? Back in the day, with SC(1), that was the default and it was great. I could start up a game any time, no Internet required. I understand things change and there are many benefits of a connected game for maintenance, updates, etc. But… if there is a way to ‘have my cake and eat it too’ with an offline mode, I would love to learn more about it.
Please let me know. Thanks!
The easiest way for me is to open the “Network and Internet settings” (from the system tray). From there, disable which ever adapter is connecting you to the internet.
When SC2 is launched in that state, it will won’t be able to find a connection. After several seconds it will give a popup that has a “Play Offline” option.
Other ways that accomplish the same thing are unplugging the ethernet cord from the wall, or unplugging the modem/router power.
@Levianthan: thanks for the quick response!
I disabled my wired and wireless networks and launched SC2 (clicked the ‘Play’ button). After some seconds, the ‘Play Offline’ option did show up (which I was not aware of as an option, thanks!). However, after clicking , I got another message that stated…
“AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED. To enable offline play, connect to Blizzard services to authorize your game client. You also need at least one StarCraft II character on the account with purchased content. All data files must be fully downloaded to play in offline mode.”
This ‘seems’ a bit chicken & egg. If I have disconnected my network, how can I connect to Blizzard services to authorize the game client? Is that something that can be done from a different device? In addition, I presume it is the authorizing of the game client that the ‘Temporary Outage’ message is referring to that starts this set of procedures, correct?
Any ideas on how to get past this second step? Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately, it is glitchy and that error message seems to hit some people for some reason. I don’t think it’s actually claiming that you haven’t authorized if you have successfully logged in in the last 30 days.
When I was going through the steps while writing my reply, I was able to get into offline mode, so it does work even if it takes a little finagling.
Try this. Change to a different region and login normally and log back out. Then do the offline steps for that different region. If it lets you in, close everything and try the offline mode for your main region again.
leviathin i think your forgetting most of these people having problems loggin havent logged in in a very long time already, so its gonna be tricky, but as you said if they can log in to a different region, they should still be able to play offline after doing so. again i find it really wierd all these people are just deciding to pick up sc2 and play after not playing for years. if i didnt know any better id say most were bots, except the fact they argue with you when you try to suggest fixs so, definitely not bots, but still wierd non the less.
Yeah. Essentially like you said, I’m hoping that the successful log into one of the non-NA regions will authenticate (authorize) the client. But with the added hope that when they switch back to NA to try the offline mode, it will now let them in.
