From a theatric story telling perspective Korhal first just stinks.
So with main body LotV you have:
Intro / exposition: Auir
Act I: Korhal, Shakuras, Glacius
Interlude: Ulnar
Act II: Slayne, Ending, Revanscar
Finale: 2nd Invasion of Auir
So let’s look at act I. After Auir both Korhal and Shakuras have some logical plausibility.
But if you go Korhal first, you see Amon’s devastation first hanRavenscroft. Artanis only logical choice now is grabbing the Keystone and gunning to Shakuras. Which puts Glacius 3rd. Glacius just sucks in terms of closing Act I.
Now if you chose Shakuras 1st:
For one the fantastic end cinematic after last stand with Zeratul’s voice over talking about being absent from the Khala is much more impactful after you have just lost the Khala on Auir.
Second after seeing the devastation Amon on Shakuras, Artanis can reasonably say. I need an army, we aren’t ready for this foe. So he heads to Glacius, (still thinking Amon’s fight is primarily with him and the protoss; not sector wide) to build up his forces.
This allows Korhal to go 3rd. The handshake and Raynor’s pep talk is such a satisfying end to Act I.
For Act II Ravenscar needs to be last. As Rohanna letting go of the past and severing her nerve cords (which happens after all 3 planets are completed) fits well with Artanis saying they are abandoning the cast system (also a relic of the past) after Ravenscar.
You can feel that way but the narration indicated that Artanis thought about the artifact all the time and he himself planned to retrieve it immediately, and remember the guy who was going to retrieve it, he just sacrificed himself and asked you to go for the artifact that is hope. the whole narrative agrees. by no means Artanis got Krohal expects to be a third option
it’s more satisfying to see shakuras destroyed with all those hybrids as Artanis shows how great the protoss in lasta stand which is a good preview of what raynor asks for:
The “narrative” doesnt say anything of the sort. He was aware that it was an objective, but it has no time crunch on it, unlike Shakuras which he explicitly calls out as a race.
Right, because Artanis was going to totally ignore Amon and the hybrids until Jimmy asked him to fight.
the argument of no time does not enter, nobody knows when Amon will attack, how long it will take, until people realized that he was attacked from xelnaga warpgates to ignore the distance between Aiur and shakuras. the battle of Shakuras will take place with or without Artanis and will be lost anyway because his strength was not significant at that time. For the story we were just “escorts” and maintenance people who enabled a shortcut to the Nerazin similar to the one Amon used to attack Shakuras. Artanis did not intend to save the Nerazim if he did not fight by his side if he had arrived before would do the same as NErazin and try to defend Sahkuras and only retreat when any idea of closing the warpgates would have been lost, it would even have been a total defeat if Amon had taken it more seriously and commanded the golden army and f death fleet imultaneously, end game. In retrospect there was no way to fulfill the goal of reaching Shakuras before Amon
(Artanis’s intention), everything depended humor Amon.
they must have sent a poet
I don’t want them to die, has to see the ligh. They are paranoid about losing their individuality…
OK
actually I raise the second arc Shakura and korhal, Glacius is only an opening of a plot more derived from losing the capital , clue that precedes the alliance with Alarak in Ulnar, and the purifying project. Although granting that it sounds good that he ends up as the artifact leaving Krohal in search of the Xelnagas, but Glacius can open perfectly as the search for resources after losing Shakura to a second tragic arc, losing the most important base of the Protoss. the idea of leaving the artifact adrift is inconceivable for so long already when it was discussed during the first arc of Aiur
We can appeal that this larva distorted his memories by idelizing kerrigan hehehe, kaldir and korhal complement each other in different order
However, Artanis only decided to warp through the Altarian Rift because Karax’s findings coincided with Zeratul’s discovery, which were also confirmed with ancient prophecies. Artanis wasn’t going to warp his entire civilization into a sulfuric acid cloud based on Zeratul’s urging alone. The info has to be corroborated first, which is what he did.
So the lighning round was quite a mess. I try to findeach relevant post for a proper quote, but it’s pretty hard, so sorry in advance if I forget something or not doing a proper job.
First topic, the ‘buy in’ of Protoss warrior.
Maybe, I should give some context, I was thinking about the fact that I don’t know any Templar who retires from service. That can help suggest about the mindset of the Protoss. That results in me confused about how they are enlisted. So this really helps me understand the context of how Protoss’ military works.
While there is clearly more to it than just tribe, it cannot be denied that tribe is a main factor. Otherwise, the Templar should come from all walk of life. Each caste should be made up of each tribe in homogeneous manner. Instead, each caste is skewed in its made up. That couple with the fact that the templar is trained from a yound age really paint a picture on how the Protoss’ civilization works.
Well, last I check the Protoss can’t choose their own gender. So the fact that female Templar is unusal means that how you birth really effects your ‘choice’ of vocation. (Yeah, this is sour spot for me.)
I fails to see your reasoning. We don’t know anything about the Protoss’ reproduction, but if ours is anything to go by, then let me assure you; male only needed for a couple minutes or even less in some cases. Afterward, female is more than capable of stuggling on our own. Those warrior can just leave their seed behind and go to war.
And, I loathe myself for beinging this up, it’s barely over a generation since Khas discovery Khala. So, yeah…
Unfortunately, derceinlycan proves beyond doubt that the Protoss’ warrior possess enough freedom and I accept. However, this is interesting and show me a lot insight to Protoss.
Second topic, the suicidal intent of the Protoss.
Well, here is a thing, the Protoss isn’t afraid of losing at all. Case in point, the Colossi, the Protoss’ civil war (during the Episode III) and the imprisonment of tassadar. There is also the Dark Templar, but I’m not sure if that’s good example.
Anyway, I don’t think any argument against warping prematurely holds any water. There are other reply, but I think they all boils down to what is quoted here. Please point out to me what I miss in additionally to how wrong I am.
That is abit too extreme. I’m sure there is a region of thing between liking to fight (and don’t mind dying) and participate in suicide bomb.
Yes, and once they’re done patching up, they can go back into the fight again. The minor the wound, the sooner they can be back. So, it wasn’t like prematurely warping is going to cut out their ability to wage war that much. Beside, this treatment only concern Zealot, there are still other unit like Sentry, Reaver and whatnot.
Off topic
Can you explain this a bit? I’m curious.
Sorry, mistype. It is ‘much’ as in ‘We’re much inferior’.
If you don’t mind, I would highly appreciate it if you would tell me in clear manner when I cross the line. You know in addition to all the help with grammar. I love arguing, but I can’t have fun over other’s enjoyment.
I sincerely believe that you’re all wrong and it should be Korhal first. Regardless of the objective truth and Canon. I can’t keep this up, otherwise. However, the Red Head also sincerely believe (regardless of the objective truth) that Kerrigan is angel. So do you, at least, see that I have a point?
First and most importantly, it’s completely unrelate to our discussion. We are thinking in term of what Artanis would do. It’s incompatible with your argument. Artanis isn’t Deadpool; he can’t reak the fourth wall.
Secondly, it’s quite subjective. Personally, I think Korhal first, then Glacius and end with Sharkuras. The scene with Raynor flows really well with the situation after Aiur. Two old friends pick up piece of the after match and resolve to keep on going. Glacius as a break point from all the tension. Then you end it all with a bang crippling Amon and such. Zeratul voice over works well as an uplifting message after all the ordeal.
Long short story, Iran was at war with Iraq during the 80s. Due to the Islamic Revolution in 1979 the Iranian Army suffered from massive purges and had an outdated military with an international embargo affecting them against the Soviet and US backed Iraq.
So to compensate for this the new regime started a massive recruitment campaign in the population, calling for boys to defend Islam against the unholy Iraqi regime of Saddam Husseyn, with the promise of going into Heaven if they died a martyr’s death on the battlefield, symbolically giving them a key representing their afterlives.
Thousands of teenagers coming from impoverished and religious backgrounds went on the front in buses, but because they couldn’t properly train and equip them like the regular soldiers, the regime simply told them to charge straight into enemy positions which was covered in mines, which they did eagerly with only their fists for a weapon.
Needless to say, many Young boys died because of this, and reportedly the Iraqi Soldiers were so shocked by this method it led to them being demoralized…
I was going to make a post about recent protest in Bangkok, but the news isn’t that important anymore…
@Brother Bifrost
Many thanks in advance. Just one thing. This request does not apply to when I’m around my beloved, alright? I might not know where the line is exactly, but I’m sure I must be well over it to matter around him.
If I get around to another legacy of the void play through, I’m going to try Korhal first. I haven’t done Korhal first except my very first play through.
