Co-Op Mutation #251: Burning Legion

Amon’s armies are vast. An endless tide of his fanatical warriors washes over the halls of Ulnar, hell-bent on burning you to ash. Cut through them to get to the celestial locks, but beware: Amon’s forces are dangerous even in death.

Scorched Earth - Enemy units set the terrain on fire upon death.
Void Rifts - Void Rifts periodically appear in random locations and spawn enemy units until destroyed.
Avenger - Enemy units gain increased attack speed, armor, and life when nearby enemy units die.

Notes:

  • Each Void Rift has 500HP, and their spawnings are signalled by a minimap ping on each Rift.
  • To spot Void Rifts on the Minimap, set Texture graphics settings to Ultra. Starcraft II: How to See Void Rifts on the Minimap - YouTube
  • The first Void Rifts spawn very close to your base. But as you capture more locks, the Rifts start to spawn further. Often behind enemy lines.
  • Units spawned from Void Rifts DO get the Avenger buff, and they get Scorched Earth.
  • Units that get the Avenger buff also grow in size to give players a visual indicator.
  • Scorched Earth sets fire to the ground with size and intensity varying upon total supply of the enemy killed over the spot.
  • Time stop will cause the enemy to start sending units to the locks non-stop. Do NOT use time stop unless you want to make life harder, or if you’re capturing the last lock.
  • Mind Controlled Units [Vorazun, Karax, Stukov] lose their avenger buffs.
  • Air units are immune to Scorched Earth

what do you mean by “3rd”? you’ve been saying it’s the 3rd mutation for multiple weeks now, in the past, last week for instance, d’you mean it’s the 3rd rotation?

Easy mutator Zagara P1 and zeratul P3.

Damn it, forgot about the mutation change and started leveling Zagara P3.
I’m not sure having just unlocked free banelings would be enough to not make it a pain to play this one, regardless of victory/defeat.

True for the first part, False-ish for the second part. (Probably a copy-paste statement error?)

While a specific enemy wave’s spawn time might get delayed by TimeStop, as you’ve pointed out yourself - TimeStop on Lock & Load makes the enemy AI flip out and aggressively capture locks. Using it is a bad idea, unless it’s to capture the last lock before the enemy can take over another.

Holy crap… I beat this brutation on the second attempt with Tychus P2 and and Swan P2 ally. Skipped the bonus but this mission was stressful enough without it.

Crooked Sam was a godsend for those way in the back void rifts, he just needs his upgrade that lets him go faster and cloak when he gets shot.

Interestingly on my first attempt I had a Fenix P1 ally who rushed his scout and carrier first… did not end well, especially against zerg comp.

Ya this one is hard as hell, or at least it was.

3rd means… same mutation #16, #85.
3rd Burning Legion.

Did it in first try as P2 Nova and Kerrigan ally. Huge firepower, good mobility and unit regeneration. Didn’t even notice the Avenger and Scorched Earth mutators. Wasn’t nearly as hard as I expected.

But it’s also the 2nd repeat.

Brutation is too hard for me, I think this brutation need high APM in order to clear the mission asap.

Did it first try in pub with Stetmann p2 and a level 10 Fenix p1 ally.

Definitely more hectic than I remember the mutation being when it first came out when you could get a Brutalisk before the first rift spawn (toxic nests were invulnerable back then).

I’m not sure what the best commander for this mutation is yet, but it sure isn’t Stetmann.

This is the one that made everyone hate void rifts.

You’re right. I changed it now.

Why does time stop do that on this map?

I knew this mutation was #16, I was just a little confused as to why @Spirit doesn’t just say #251.

That’s what I thought…
