Co-Op Mutation #251: Burning Legion

Ok, beaten it a couple times in public queue. I think the best commander for this mutation is Han and Horner p0. Void Rifts are no longer an issue but if your ally gets stomped over and over by the Avenger waves you can get stuck killing both army spawns every time and never making any real progress.

And for the love of god don’t use Stukov in public queue. He’s absolutely useless against all three Mutators.

Really? I can see bunkers not doing well (which is likely a lot of players’ choice) but DBs would work perfectly fine here.

Why can’t he go mass diamondbacks?

Running into p3 Stukovs who need some hard hard carries in public queue. But yeah I’d like to see a factory Stukov sometime but he cant even finish a Factory before the first set of Void Rifts spawn.

I remember the first time playing this, the year mutations first came out. The first couple rifts spawned way back. We had trouble even getting to them, and just tried to hold the front where the expo is.

All of a sudden a bunch of red hybrids were running around taking out our buildings and so on. GG.

Someone who chooses P3 on this one is probably going to need an early to mid carry. It takes so long to get critical mass.

Other options are P1/P3 Karax & P3 Zag

Did it first try as P1 Zeratul with a P1 HnH ally.

I destroyed the first 4 Void Rifts with Zoraya’s legion and shieldguards, while waiting for my HnH ally to get his striker platforms up. After that it was almost the same as playing a normal Brutal game. Completed in 18:26. Could have been 17:26 but we had to recapture back one of the points.

I’d say this is one of the top 5 hardest brutations, managed to get it 2nd try this time around with a random ally using zeratul p3 and going full cannons, my ally went full swann defense also, my ally eventually transitioned into a small thor army which I thought was weird, but it made a small impact I guess. Felt like I just got done playing a dota match after all that zeratul micro I had to do.

If I recall right, this was the first mutation that was of a challenge back in the days. So many people had no idea how to deal with early Void Rifts.

I don’t think so, this one is one of the easiest rift mutations cause rifts on lnl are very accessible and the mission doesn’t have pressure until 11 mins when you get double attack waves so you have plenty of time to control the rifts.

basically any possible mutation is easy these days, but when this first came out I think Nova was still our newest commander and this brutation was on another level, also I dont think we even had mastery back then either.

there were masteries, and there weren’t newer commanders but you had double mules, invulnerable spider mines, god mode vorazun, 1 minute gs and other various things that were nerfed over time.

Ok, I just passed the weekly mutation. It’s horrible to play this with randoms. The first attempt was with Mengsk P0 with Alarak P3 level 12, defeat. Second attempt, Mengsk P2 with Tychus P2, defeat. Third attempt, Zagara P1 with Nova P3 73 Mastery, defeat. Last attempt and finally victory, Zagara P1 with Tychus P2 (I played with the same ally Tychus.), we won the mission, but we could not complete the secondary mission.

First attempt was with Zagara with Stukov ally. Sadly, it was against terran air and those banshees were too much for us to handle. However, second attempt was with a Karax who knew was he was doing and was able to hold back advancing forces as I deep tunneled in to take care of any rifts.

Challenging but thanks to the P-levels, made it a whole lot easier.

More challenging than last weeks for sure. Did it with a P2 Tychus (wich seems the only prestige I come across) as a P1 Zagara. Lings are so fast that they can respond to any void rift in less than 10 secs. We had the worst comp for myself (mass lurkers and vipers) and the optional got ultrabuffed, we didn’t bother. Was pretty fun to be honest.

Holy crap, I’m hating this so far. I’m using Swann, and I can deal with all of the void rifts while using my big cooldowns to clear enemy encampments and waves, all while putting down turrets to help defend and try to catch a stray rift or two. But 7 games so far, and none of them have been close yet.

There was a quick game with a P1 Karax who didn’t use any of his top bar until I pinged a rift, to which he used a purifier beam and that was it. Only built 6 cannons outside of his expansion, and that was it. I killed 68% units and killed 10 rifts against his 2.

P0 Zeratul. I was only slightly ahead of unit kill count, but I still killed 14 rifts to his 4. Got overwhelmed.

P0 Stukov. I killed 71% of enemy units, and killed 19 rifts against his 7. Got overwhelmed.

P1 Tychus. The others were full mastery, however he was only lvl 12. Figured give it a go. Got overwhelmed. I killed a few more units then him, but I killed 22 rifts against his 5.

P1 Tychus again, same player. Said the reason we died last time was because I wasn’t defending enough. I tried to explain that there was really no defending against rifts with avenger going. Told me to defend, and he’d attack the rifts. We got overwhelmed, though it took longer. I killed 62% of units and killed 41 rifts against his 12.

P0 Stukov. This one was the closest, and actually ended up with us loosing due to locks overloading. Our unit kills were about even, and with me killing 48 rifts against his 16. We stayed on top of the rifts, but just got overwhelmed by the double attack waves with avenger units.

Sorry for venting. Overall, I’ll try again tomorrow, but I feel Swann is still a pretty good CO for this one.

Sounds like you’re doing a great job with Swann, but you really need an aggressive ally. I went Karax P3 and set down defenses while sniping rifts and clearing where possible with topbar. Got a Zag P3 who played really aggressively which was great!

You probably need to just keep trying or check if you can get an ally on Discord.

Cleared it with P3 Zagara and P3 Stukov.

Took us 2nd tries to beat it because of the enemy composition. The first game composition was kinda unfavorable to both of us, so we restarted.

Basically, my role as P3 Zagara is just go around and destroy as many Void Rift as possible until my Stukov ally built enough bunkers to overrun the enemy.

Surprisingly got this first try as H+H P2 with a P1 Karax ally, including bonus, within 20mins.

Enemy comp was Terran Classic Mech.

After my first Galleon, as usual, I went for fast Fusion Core, only this time I focused on a few Strike Platforms first before outfitting my two Galleons with the Launch Bay. If you didn’t know, only with that upgrade do Galleons get to profit from the health regeneration. You need three Fighters to destroy a rift.

Afterwards I went for Sovereign Battlecruisers with the upgrade. Never lost one, they’re just so tanky. Love 'em. Lost two Galleons though. Accidentally made two Vikings as well. I only had like 2-1 upgrades in the end, but at least I had the Strike Platforms. As for my minerals, I just spammed Hellions for staying at locks and for their attack speed bonus on death.

Karax reinforced both our expansions, the captured locks and held off waves with his cooldowns. I set up Mag Mines around locks and his cannons as well. They never recaptured a lock. Before we captured the top lock, I paid a visit to the bonus objective, and just focus-fired it down with my army, the Space Platform, and Karax’ Orbital Strike spam.

It was a satisfying mutation to play. Both players have to commit and stay on their toes.

I just won as P0 Swann with an average Abathur P2 who mass Swarm Host. We both did badly, he crawled slowly with this SH to Bot Lock , I bombed and tank goli then turretted the Left Lock. I fortify as destroy rifts as he slowly do right then top and won
won another with just mass p2 turret.
I must say that Swann is harder than Karax P3, who can expand, push and defend easily.
