Audio stops working every time I launch SCII

Weird issue I’ve had for a couple of weeks, since my last Windows 10 update.

Every time I launch StarCraft II, the audio on my entire computer stops working. I’ve tried resetting my sound input settings, to no avail. This only happens on SCII — all other games work fine (including other Blizzard games).

Unplugging my speakers from my 3.5mm jack and plugging it back in seems to fix all other audio for my computer, but not my in-game audio. So I’ve just been playing my game on silent while listening to music.

As soon as I close my game client, my audio goes back to normal.

Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

Howdy!

This could be a conflict with any third party sound enhancement software that may of come with your sound card or downloaded on it’s own. I would recommend to try playing with all background applications closed following the Windows 10 steps Here.

Before retesting the game reset the settings back to default following the steps Here. Retest!

If the issue continues please post up your Dxdiag for us to review. Copy the dxdiag contents into your reply, highlight the text then select the code block icon </>. This action will help us review the information faster.

Thank you!

I have this same issue involving my bluetooth headset, but not my regular speakers. I went through the steps you outlined without success. I have also tried to include my Dxdiag as you requested but it exceeds the character limit for this forum. What would you suggest?

We do not officially support Bluetooth but we have a support thread on our Heroes of the Storm forums that may help you adjust settings to see if you can get it to work. You can find that Here. If not we would recommend to utilize a wired or other type of wireless headset.

This sounds very much like the issue I’m having! I have a Bose 35QC II bluetooth headset and ASUS Xonar. I can only get audio to work if I start SC2 with my headset ON and then visit the “Voice” tab (I don’t have to change anything, just visit it) to get sound. Sadly I can only get sound in my headphones…

Same issue here: bluetooth headphones, no sound at all. Please fix.

Alright folks, I have figured out how to fix that in my setup: no need to remove audio software or whatnot.
Open your sound settings (sound settings -> sound countrol panel, looks like an good old win style control panel window).
Now, make sure that

  • “playback”: both default and default communication device is pointing to your headphones
  • “recording”: your headphones headset is NOT selected neither as “default” or “default communication” device. Pick you notebook mic or whatever else for that.

My theory is that SC tries to activate both headphones and headset profiles on the BT headset and that is not a good idea.
