You're in silver because you're bad, they said

You’re alt account will fall back down to silver after you play more games on it, they said…

But why come my alt account is currently at a season high 2654 (currently in the middle of a 5 game win streak) after 50 games ranked games played on it?

How do my soldier win % keeps going higher? It was at around 80% when I was near the top of gold. Now it is almost at 85% in mid plat.

Note how the “matchmaker is perfect, you are the problem if you think anything is wrong with it” shills mocked me for being silver, when I created a thread pointing out that the matchmaker was broken and not giving fair matches. I could feel how unfair my matches were and when I tried to point it out, all they could say is “you belong in silver and are making up excuses” :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

On a side note, how is when I got to within 1 win of plat, I started getting the most difficult games of my life, where it felt like my enemies were all plat and my teammates were all bronze?

First I got to like 2480 and then I got bumped down to 2330 on the most unstoppable losing streak ever. Like I felt completely helpless to do anything in any of those games, because my team was so outmatched.

The next day, I dutifully rose back up to 1 win away from plat and again, one of the most unwinnable games of my life. I played against a 4 stack that featured who I’m pretty sure was a GM smurf, considering our entire team switched to heroes to try to counter him and he still destroyed us.

After that, I had two of the hardest games of my life, where I was basically killing 3-4 enemies every fight and we still couldn’t push payload to the next point until OT, and then barely winning the games in extra rounds. During those 2 games, I almost died from the exertion I faced, trying to hard carry my team but I finally made it to plat.

After crossing the plat threshold, it stopped feeling like the game was trying to throw everything it had at me to try to stop me from winning games and I’ve been winning plat games at about an 80% win rate.

Games are actually feeling easier in plat than in gold or silver. In plat, I don’t feel like I have 2-3 players on my team actively trying to throw every game.

Now, we all know that when people on this forum say “silver/gold is hell to get through” the matchmaker shills always respond “no it’s not, you’re just bad and if you think those games are hard, that just means you belong at that level”… Well, I think my win rate in silver/gold should speak for itself in terms of whether I “belong there”.

But holy hell, it was still rough getting through. In most of those games, I had to play my butt off to win or even keep close (and there were more than a few where I just felt like a complete passenger in the game, where my team was so outmatched that it was impossible for me to do anything).

Let me re-iterate, it is EXTREMELY hard to win games in silver or gold, when you have 2-3 teammates doing absolutely nothing, even if you are above silver/gold skill level. And that is the case in MANY games at that elo. The shills glibly replying “they are just as good as you, you just think you’re better because you’re delusional” as a way to defend the matchmaker is foolish.

I have just proven that, with my climb out of those elos. There is still a large skill variance in plat, but NOTHING close to what it’s like in silver/gold. And plat doesn’t have anywhere close to as many hard thrower teammates, preventing you from winning games. Games are starting to feel fair, where I feel like if I am outplaying one of the players on the enemy team, I will win. It doesn’t feel like I have to consistently outplay 2-3 enemies at the same time to win games, like it did in silver & gold.

It feels like higher up in elo you go, the less you have to hard carry games to win. I.E. in silver, to consistently win you need to be 2-3x as good as the enemy players (to make up for how often your teammates do absolutely nothing), in plat you need to be 1.5x as good as your enemies, in diamond, 1.3x as good, etc (before I quit overwatch for like a year, I was diamond and those games legitimately felt like the easiest to win, where I didn’t have to make up for my teammate’s shortcomings to win, just play my own role well).

THIS IS HOW A BROKEN MATCHMAKING SYSTEM WORKS. It SHOULDN’T be relatively harder to rank up in lower elos than high elos. But it is, because there’s so much dead weight in those elos that don’t drop to where they actually belong, because the matchmaker will just pair them with the high performing players, keeping them stagnant.

This effect doesn’t occur in high elos, because the players there are all serious about the game, so you don’t have a large number of just complete anchor players that do absolutely nothing all game like in low elo.

edit:
This is the last thread I’m going to make on the topic, because we all know how it’s going to go, anyway. The low rank players will nod and agree, the high rank players will ignore all points, and say “you are where you belong, if you didn’t belong there you would climb”, probably without even reading the thread.

But this thread is more for the low rank people, I feel your pain, having just gone through it. Don’t let the high rank “matchmaker is perfect, you’re bad if you can’t climb” shills make you feel inadequate for having difficulty climbing. It IS relatively harder to climb at low elo than high elo, because you have to carry a much higher proportion of the burden to consistently win matches at low elo, not just play your own role better than average, which is the case at high elo.

Congrats. All I got to say is that it is easter. I’m up 300SR this weekend but once the casual players leave I expect I’ll lose it all when I have to play against the regular guys. Hope you can hold on.

Well, you learned the first lesson of ranking up. Spend more money.

Spend money == rank up.

Can you share this alt account?
Cause, you know, my main is silver on dps but my alt is Top500.

I’m ready to bet on your alt eventually going back to silver (if not boosted) just like my alt started in high gold and, after three seasons, got back to high silver where I belong.

Talk about Stockholm Syndrome. This inspires me to get into this business.

In bronze, for Easter, they are not casual. Usually we have trash golds or plats “alts”, but for this week end, the level has raised a lot. I’ve never seen that for several seasons. Hard to find real bronze players. They had been probably pushed under 500 sr…

You are so good bro! I remember the same predictions were chasing me through probably all the 8 ranks in this game.
I feel bad for your hardstuck diamond dps
I feel bad for your masters otp ashe
I feel bad for your flat peak GM hitscan
I feel bad for your barely touched top500 4371 peak dps
This is overwatch, that is why you come back and smurf on these pepegas without any regret or any mercy. You directly prove them wrong and see how they complain about having smurf issue on this forum after, which is their actual skill issue.

I don’t see any point in doing that, as in my experience the “matchmaking system is perfect, you are always at the rank you belong” shills will twist anything you say or show them into fitting into their mantra, rather than actually consider that their mantra might be wrong. Or they will just outright ignore it.

I have in fact already linked my alt account including vods in a prior thread I made to show that my alt is in plat and that I couldn’t possibly be both plat & silver skill level at the same time, despite the shills telling me that this account placed in silver because I am bad and belong there. But they didn’t seem to know how to rationalize that discrepancy and so ignored the thread.

They are almost like a cult in that way.

I don’t understand what reasoning you could possibly have to assume my alt will eventually fall to silver? Did you not read the part where I said I have 50+ games played on that account with close to 85% win rate on my most played hero?

I’m willing to take that bet though, what’ll you give me when I win?

The part that you SHOULD be wondering is how I placed in silver on this account in the first place, despite putting up significantly above average stats. Especially considering I was diamond before quitting the game for like a year. Because that’s what I was wondering before coming to the conclusion that the matchmaker is busted…

Once again, this thread is mainly to show the low ranked players that make threads such as “I’m in gold, but why do I keep getting teammates that play like they belong in bronze?”, that I was getting teammates like that in gold too, it’s because the matchmaker is screwed up.

I say that to offset the matchmaker shills that always respond “you play just as bad as them which is why you are in the same elo, you’re just delusional about your skill level”. Because that’s just not true. There ARE a lot of bronze skill level players in gold that don’t drop out, because the matchmaker just anchors them to the good gold players, keeping both sides stuck in gold.

But it’s not just me saying that, I’ve seen like 5 different users post similiar examples recently. Saying that they have an account in Masters, for example but that their other account is in silver/gold and they have more difficult games down there, because they get such bad teammates.

Honestly true…

Eventually I did start feeling bad for smurfing. But in the beginning I remembered all the toxic players and all the smurfs (that I was now better than) and going back and seeing some of the same old accounts still in gold/plat while I sailed by them on my 3rd, 4th, 5th alt was actually a lot of fun

I’m not defending the match making system, but I feel the need to point out 50 games is absolutely nothing. If for example you were only winning 45% of your games, you would be down 125sr after 50 games. It takes a long time for the match maker to get new accounts where they belong, we see this every time there is an account sale. Keep in mind too that the first 5 games of a season are placements and dont count. If this is a brand new account your first 18 games will have new account sr boost, so those dont really count either.

Even if lets say you were loosing 70% of your games, because it is really hard to loose more often then that, 30% of your game you will just get carried, but lets just say you are loosing 70% of your games after placing a new account it would still take hundreds of games for the match maker to get you where you belong.

Indeed they will ignore facts that contradict their belief…

Fortunately more and more people like yourself have exposed the truth about the ranking system.

Now they’ll probably shift the goalposts and they’ll tell you to play 1000 more games because everyone is “where they belong” and the matchmaker can’t possibly have any problems!

Are you on discord by the way?

Relatable, recently I was doing dps account from gold to masters And I get a guy that was dog water like a week ago, when I was doing another account. He upset me a bit when I was calling stuff for the team (he didn’t like my Russian accent, I guess). The guy entered the match with the music going through his microphone in 2900 which just shows his ‘dedication’ to a game, and he plays 4 fun only imo. I recognized his nickname and prepared my guys in discord that we have an afk tank player, and we got to boost him, or we lose.
Eichenwalde game, score 7-7, 30 mins past, 36k damage done, 88 elims, and we barely clutched that behind the gates after 1st point with 8-7 score (my zarya stats were 86 elims and 33k damage)
At the end of the game, I asked him how he dropped from diamond to plat and he was confused because his profile is private, but I have him captured on my blacklist =)
Why kaplan saves his pepegas and don’t let me stomp them vs and puts the worst in my matches… on top of that pepega I have had cree main all of a sudden started practicing his widow refusing to switch =) Handicapping in action, we were 4 stacking, and they add us 2 worst players possible to that lobby.

Almost like they are paid astro-turfers. Weird.

Wait till you see time travel in the re-spawn timer. That will blow your hair back. Time travel!

Yup, this is quite legit.
1500-2300 is hell bracket, you have insane players trying to 1v9 and people who can’t be carried even if they were 6v4.
Had teams so good I didn’t even need to try sometimes, when I was useless.
It’s so random sometimes.
I could be taking 1-2 people every fight, but yeah.

You bring hope to those who feel the muck of silver and gold.

Also I rotated out my account that got to 2488 but dropped. Now I wonder if I should grind some more.

My experience on console has definitely been the opposite of yours! From my trek back to plat from low gold, I have seen more people in plat trying to 1v6 or going off on their own to carry the entire match versus sticking together for heals and/or team pushes. Obviously, there’s nothing wrong with flanking heroes but there seems to be less team communication and less “together” mentality. In gold, (again, from my console experience) it seemed like while there were more alt/smurf accounts, people were more willing to group up and try to win as a team.

Can’t tell you how many times I have seen (in plat) “I need healing - critical health” and I say “group up” and my teammate goes the complete opposite way, dies, and then says “thanks!” Bro you can’t spam that and then get mad when I can’t make my way to the other side of the map because you decided to go on a wild flanking adventure with another teammate that got caught and died.

I know that isn’t the topic of your post, but I definitely thought that was interesting to hear from a PC player. However, I definitely understand the hard games that come around just when you’re about to breach the next rank. I’ve dealt with that between gold and plat for a while on open queue. You get a chunk of great games, then you get ones that there is no possible way to win - just too unmatched - and then you get ones that you stomp without having to lift a finger. I reached plat earlier this season, dropped all the way down to low gold, and now I’m back around 2600. Climbing can happen, but it’s the “win 1, lose 2, win 1, lose 1” and by the time I stop playing I haven’t moved in SR. lol

When I climbed to my career high of low plat, I had a 10 streak of super easy games. Great team mates vs super bad opposition.

When duo with my gm friend end smurfing in gold, we got some sub bronze dead weight to carry. Was crazy.

Anyway, if you want some hilarious news, there’s apparently no plans for an mmr reset in ow2.
And unaware of plans to change placements.
So mid gold is going to be flooded with noobs with low bronze skills.

Hahahahahahaha!

yeah, I’m playing it safe and climbing out of gold asap. pretty sure new players are going to be placed in plat too so i don’t think anywhere will be safe.
I am not looking forward to new players at all.
I love new players but ffs please don’t be on my team.

Play a fair bit of quick play. Been getting noobs on my team pretty much every game. It’s fine if they play Junkrat or a no skill hero, but if it’s a skill hero, it’s pretty much an auto loss.

One game had 3 noobs. We got utterly rolled, both points in circa 60 seconds, and one of them typed, “How is this matchmaker fair?”

I’m hoping devs not so ignorant or foolish that new players are being defaulted to mid gold standard.
