Sombra PTR Changes from a Sombra Main

Not my powerful duo SoMercy (Sombra and Mercy)

Thank you, I left my feedback on that thread. I am thinking about making yet another thread about these changes.

Boop! Your changes sound good to me, only thing I will add is that when sombra touches the point, it starts a 7 second timer after which she automatically loses stealth and it goes on cool down. That way her stealth works exactly the way it did in the past, for the purposes of contesting points

You mean the buffhammer. They are threatening to put the buffhammer on mercy. Buff is the word that blizzard uses for nerfs

ALL 3 of her abilities can be canceled/ put on cooldown by less than 5 damage.

Just imagine D.va having all 3 of her abilities put on cooldown by damage. Fly through the air with boosters, take 1 damage, fall to the ground and put on cooldown. Put Defense matrix up, get hit by 5 damage in the back, 4 second cooldown. Start your missile salvo, take 1 damage, missiles stop and go on full cooldown.

Doesn’t that sound fun to play as?

You remember what I said earlier about why I left a couple of games, right?

Sombra and Symmetra, so many reworks. I wonder who’s next…

Ok so it seemed confusing to me first, but I finally figured out why they did this. According to a conversation between Geoff and Seagull, the dev team had trouble using keeping track of her translocator and stealth timer. The devs don’t seem to be able to proberly use her most basic abilities, which would mean they don’t have the necessary skill to balance her correctly. Sombra requires a very different playstyle from all the other heroes - you are required to think 30 seconds ahead.

Why nerf translocator? Why nerf reveal radius? Why nerf movement speed? These were all very important mechanics that Sombra players has to master and a huge part of her identity (not to mention fun factor), but they were all removed. The devs are attempting to make her easy to play, but that doesn’t go with the hero identity - she is supposed to be insanely hard.

I know they are currently scared to make her overpowered (or decent), but I just recently came to realize this might be because they know they aren’t using her optimally. Yay, you could stand still for 30 seconds in the enemy spawn? But imagine if she could do that and still be slippery? What if she could cause constant confusion with the drawback of being bad in bigger fights?

I’m not saying make her better in team fights, but if you want her to be a scout-like hero you have to stop taking away her utility and start by giving her some prober buffs. If she does get out of hand then simply nerf her? I’ve never heard something as stupid as infinite stealth, but extremely restricted mobility.

Thanks for the feedback! I was actually thinking of having it that when she contests on a point, she becomes detected after 6 seconds on point. That way she can stall while invisible for a bit and then use her 75% bonus speeds (which will hopefully stay at a 75% bonus speed and not get reduced for no good reason. Have they not learned from Lucio?) to dodge and stall like a tracer or genji. If she gets off point, she goes back to undetected but will always become detected on point unless she recloaks ability. I guess great minds think alike

This, and yet she has very mediocre damage as well.

This is so true, when playing Sombra, you have to outsmart your opponent, which comes with immense skill which is one of the reasons why she is hard.

I was in the process of learning Sombra and was really enjoying her. But I will have to wait for live release as the PTR has 200+ ping for me

We’ve all been waiting for the live release for nearly 2 years now, don’t feel bad.

I mean, she’s not meant to be “insanely hard”. She’s meant to require some planning and thought, but as long as you have 2 brain cells you can rub together, you can figure out how to use her.

Apparently the blizzard play testers do not have the requisite 2 brain cells, however. Which means what Blizzard SHOULD have done, and still have the opportunity to do, is invite all of the top Sombra players to a roundtable discussion (Fitzy, WorstSombra, Danteh, etc) to figure out how to fix the character, since Blizzard’s team has proven to be too incompetent to do it

Check out my thread that I just made.

Here is my new thread that I just made, invite all your friends!

You can still play her as please, but the enjoyment has been reduce greatly for me I should say, but I will still remain loyal to Sombra…

She is insanely hard
You underestimate her skill requirement.

  • Insane tracking
  • Time management x2
  • Map knowledge to a much greater extent than others since she relies on roaming on through the map
  • A ton of planning ahead
Because you only have 20 seconds translocator time you need to plan out 25-30 ahead since she’s awful in combat. And her stealth is even shorter
Another thing thing you plan ahead if whether to hack a health pack or an enemy - and which health pack - this requires you to think 60 seconds ahead.
  • Mechanical mastery since most of her abilities hinder her
(i.e you have you shoot exactly 59 bullets to allow you to hack afterwards)
(i.e if you ever wanna use stealth, you have to animation cancel your reload + translocate at the exact same time)

Don’t talk since you’ve never played her in a skilled environment. Sure she can be fun as an assassin and stomping players who aren’t paying attention, but against players of decent skill you get punished by the smallest mistake.

Exactly this, I laugh when people say that Genji and Tracer is harder… That is so untrue.

I feel robbed by this. I spend tens pf hours to master her.
The problem is these changes will make more people trying to play her in a wrong way (hack medkit, translocator, cloak, get behind enemy, fail at the assassination attempt, retreat, repeat.)
Playing her around the fight is much more fun. Causing chaos and actually being helpful to the team. I love my agressive Sombra dancing around the enemies. I never ran out of time on trans. As I usually use it to reposition midfight.

Also with the translocator being destructable I wont be able to play “fetch” with Genji…
