We are currently investigating two specific situations being experienced by our Oceanic players. To determine which issue you’re experiencing, first of all check the game lobby IP you’re being placed into.
To verify your game lobby, press CTRL+SHIFT+N to open the Network Graph while in-game. The game lobby IP address will be in the top left, with a bracketed prefix indicating the server location.
If you are being placed in an [lax#] or [pse#] lobby, please see this thread instead.
If you are experiencing high latency while being placed in a [syd#] game lobby, please run a WinMTR test with this IP address as the Host:

Hi Metalagon I believe the issue is somewhere here, check out the locations these belong too I have included a WinMTR without host names:

I dont really know much about networking but if I had to take a stab in the dark I think these new servers (syd2) are tricking australian ISPs into following a route they would normally use for International Traffic. To show this better the third WinMTR is to a PSE2 server (the one i used to always play overwatch on) as you can see it has a much cleaner route also the AWS server shows as being australian.

happening over a week now
pings start around 40-50 halfway through match pings jump to 150+ for a minute or two and then stabilize to around 50ms. It was playable for the most part but began to rubber band midway through QP match.

I too am having this issue…sitting about 80ms when on Syd but then most of the time getting placed into 180ms games on international servers
Normally at Connected to Syd 37.244.42.72

Totally related to using a VPN. I’ve always had on but since this last patch my latency is around 130 (but stable) , I wouldn’t actually know my latency was high but for I have it showing at the top left hand corner of my game. Turn VPN (because imagine being a responsible adult and actually using a VPN, are we allowed antivirus too? Oh yeah you need to make exception for OW because it has 39 things that if you clean your registry flag as malware) off and its back down to 29. I’ve checked the servers, I’m on the right ones for Oceania pse2 (Sydney) and not pse1 (Singapore). It seems to be a common belief that that is the issue OCE servers are down, I can assure that is not the case… The only difference when I’m in a custom game (by myself) and VPN is off or on. Its got nothing to do with ISP, or even which server you are on. Even on the right servers with a VPN (I’m talking one state capitol away, so not halfway across the world). My other account, don’t use VPN and ping has never gone up at any point in time. Solid 27 while everyone else is complaining of high ping… Blizzard don’t want ppl using VPN’s its pretty much that simple.
Come on Blizzard admit that this is what is happening, you are forcing ppl to either play with high latency with a VPN or no VPN because it makes your job easier (boosting, shared accounts etc) but makes the player base more vulnerable to any cyber threats, which is what VPN’s were created for.

I don’t use a VPN and I have the lag… so you are incorrect.

ISP iiNet
I too have been experiencing severe latency issues. Normally I’d sit on about 86 from Perth however over the last week or so it bounces from 80-300 up and down constantly making the game unplayable. Also experiencing packet loss, both in and out.
Hi, team, this is the player from Melbourne, me and mates have been suffering insane ping around 250ms since last week, we were placed in the correct server, but unfortunately, it’s still going, doesn’t matter quick play or competitve game, could you please give us an update on the investigation ?
I suggest we all start opening tickets. This is getting nowhere. Typically useless support from Blizzard.
