Disconnecting Issues

I got my first penalty warning today. It was along the lines of:

“LEAVING CONTINUOUSLY WILL RESULT IN A PENALTY.”

The thing is, I haven’t been leaving on purpose. Blizzard disconnects me every few games with an error message. I really, really don’t want to get penalized, especially since the issue is out of my control, as far as I know.

Has anyone else been experiencing this?

You may want to run WinMTR for about 10 minutes, preferably catching a disconnect. You can share the results in this thread. You can try to run/play a game mode which doesn’t incur you harsh penalties as in competitive mode, ie practice vs AI.

There are no major issues going on right now from what I can tell unless you are a player living in Australia or surrounding countries. Otherwise be sure to check some standard troubleshooting steps.

If nothing helps consider running a WinMTR test.

WinMTR instructions:

  1. Download WinMTR from Download WinMTR-v092.zip (WinMTR) (Console players need a Windows Desktop Computer connected to the same network as their console to do this.)
  2. Unzip the WinMTR.zip file to the Desktop.
  3. Open the WinMTR folder and select the 32 or 64 bit version. Choose whichever one corresponds to your version of Windows.
  4. Run the WinMTR.exe
  5. Type the IP address you want to trace in the “Host” field. To get the correct IP you will actually need to open up the game and go Practice Vs AI or Quick Play and if you are on PC hit Ctrl+Shift+N and it will bring up the ingame network diagnostic graph, or go to Video > Options > Display Network Performance Graph if you are on any platform including Console. In the top left corner is the IP address you want to run WinMTR to.
    Network Graph
note When looking at the IP it will show up ingame as something like 12.34.56.78:12345. You will want to leave the last 5 digits and the colon at the end off and the IP you want to use is just the 12.34.56.78
  6. Once you notice the connection issue while playing, play for about 6 more minutes, minimize the game and click on “Stop”.
  7. Click on “Copy text to clipboard”, then return to this forum thread.
  8. Type two sets of four squiggly lines and then paste the contents of the WinMTR test between: ~~~~ Paste WinMTR Test Results Here ~~~~

If in the event you can’t even connect to Overwatch and get into any game mode at all, please use one of the following IP addresses based on your geographical region:

  • US West - 24.105.30.129
  • US Central - 24.105.62.129

I am not sure I am seeing too many things wrong. There was a momentary spike in the second hub, but that is not a big deal. The intervals between each are relatively healthy.

Remember the idea is to try and catch the disconnection issues in the act. So run the test when you notice the disconnections.

Hi, i have the same issue. I did the WinMTR test and those are my results.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

Well, whatever minor issues were present ended up getting my account suspended for 30 minutes.

I think I’m going to take a break from Overwatch for a while—Hope the issues end up clearing up themselves.

Avoid Competitive Play, use a non-critical mode like quick play or the training range.

cisco39,

Your router itself is showing high spikes of latency. Please consider these troubleshooting steps:

You sent 210 packets, but every line after your home network only received a max of 180, and the second hop is reporting a 5% loss. Your ping also spiked 82ms when connecting to the ISP. So I think it’s going to be something the ISP has to come fix for you.
