[Nov/Dec 2018] Canada - Mid Match Latency Spikes

ZaryasWife,

Taking one look at your WinMTR, your problem is not the same as the others reported here. You’ve got really bad local network instability. If you’re on wifi, swap to ethernet and power cycle your connection. If you’re not on wifi, it may be time to replace that router.

MarshXMellow - I don’t see anything wrong with that test. Did you catch a disconnection with that WinMTR? If not, can you try getting one live in a Custom Game to avoid penalties?

We made some more modifications to the network a couple days ago - are people on Bell still seeing rubber banding/ping spikes? If so we may need new WinMTRs. Sorry to sound like a broken record here, but each time we make a modification we need to get new tests to see what’s improved and what hasn’t.

i noticed slight improvement personally but not 100%

same problem here ms going up to 700ms in intervals. fun is something else. Vancouver CA region

Hey [removed by blizzard - profanity], I mean Blizzard, the least you can do is don’t give a leaving penalty to the players affected by this. are you that ignorant as to let us suffer and just repeat “PlEaSe KeEp SeNdInG wInMtRs”?

There’s a thread here with information as to why you receive leaver penalties. Short version - your players are still having to deal with being a person down when there’s an issue.

We need you to send winMTR tests so we can look for continuing problems. It’s your choice whether or not you want to help with that. That said, we’re not going to remove leaver penalties so I suggest doing any testing in modes without penalties, like custom games.

I’m in the process of getting a long enough ethernet cable (i live in an old stone house so drilling through the wall to the office is not a possibility). I have Power Cycled countless times to no effect either.
However, literally everything else (Netflix, other online games like 7 Days to Die, HotS, etc) work without issue on this router - it is only a year and a half old? It’s a Linksys EA 7500, btw.

I have even lowered my graphics settings to low, play with the limit client/server send rate on, and nothing is changing. Hell, the ping was even worse this morning with the rubberbanding issue, ranging in the 600-700ms range. Just peachy. :frowning:

Just a reminder this thread was opened November 11th, it’s now almost Christmas. Not to mention there was a thread that took two weeks to solve before this (that was never solved, hence this thread). Doesn’t seem like Blizzard cares to much and this thread is also dying, it’s been so long people are giving up. I miss playing but it’s just unbearable to do so. What is being done? Looks like I have to miss the Christmas event. Have Blizzard also taken people from the tech support team of OW to support other upcoming projects as well?

Tecumseh Ontario and having this issue also. had it for about 3 weeks now

Hey all,

While I understand that some of you are still having problems, we still have not received the tests we need to provide help with this. Please continue to provide WinMTR tests if you are having issues. That said, it appears that things are improved and we may start breaking this thread back up into individual issues so we can help those of you who still have problems more efficiently.

Blizzard, I got disconnected out of two matches simultaneously and now you give me a penalty for it? I don’t wanna hear the “other players are losing a person too” excuse when I clearly am more than willing to rejoin that game if given a chance to (which I’m not since blizzard doesn’t think QP is that significant but somehow cares just enough to penalize me for it).

At this point It would be better if you gave me a refund instead since I cannot play it properly due to this problem (which has been going on for more than a month mind you) and on top of that you are penalizing me for it.

You’ve received a lot of WinMTRs yet nothing has changed. why must I suffer even after buying this game to actually play it and not get penalized for your problems? Its clearly a problem on your server since the Asian server I tried playing on had no such disconnections, however the ping was too high to play properly.

I just stopped playing, that’s pretty much what you have to do. I dropped from Plat to low gold this season because of disconnects and bad lag. A refund would be nice, unfortunately unlikely. With all the bad news out there about Activision/ Blizzard as well, it’s clear their motives and I am not sure I want to support them anyways.

EDIT: Things appear better in the last 30 minutes. Going to play later for an hour or so.

Tried Haste DOT Net 30 day trial as a test and things work fine. Blizzard please fix this routing.

I am having similar issues one game I will have 60-70 ping my usual but then the next I will have minium 80 and upwards of close to 200 ping and it CONTINUELY fluctuates up and down causing the game to become nearly unplayable and constant ping freezes in a way where everything around you just kinda freezes while you are getting caught up etc here is some information

there is the report you wanted about a game where it was happening, this time it was not AS bad but it was still making playing VERY difficult and this was during a COMP game and the wireless router I am using is a Linksys AC1900 MU-MIMO Gigabit Router the game I had before was just fine with average 60-70 ping and at best my ping went down to 80 in this game upwards of 150 etc like before

ALSO I have tried resetting my router and nothing works

Pandagator,

Your test was run to a login server, not a game server. You need to use the server IP from the network graph once you get into a game you are having problems in. There are instructions for how to get this IP in WinMTR test article. The test you sent is okay - all the issues in the test are just parts of the test ignoring your test packets.

Barletta,

What IP did you test to? O.o That test does not appear to go anywhere near our servers. If you didn’t use a game server IP, follow the same instructions I just gave Pandagator. We’ll also need to know what kind of problem you’re having in game.

Ihat3ldiots

There’s something super wrong with your test but we can’t see the cause because most of your test is blocked. Can you trywiring directly into your modem instead of using your router and see if it works better that way? If so your problem may be how you’re connecting to the router, or the router itself is dead on arrival and needs replaced.

If it doesn’t help, run another WinMTR while you’re connected to the modem specifically. With any luck that’ll fix the hidden nodes issue and we’ll be able to see other problems.

i used a ip from a custom game. ORD1. The problem i have is that my ping is higher than usual and only on overwatch.

Barletta,

I am unsure why but you are taking a pretty inefficient path to our servers. Are you using a VPN or mobile tether or something like that? Does this persist on a different network?
