[Nov/Dec 2018] Canada - Mid Match Latency Spikes

Issue since yesterday. The original thread is marked as solved, but I’m still experiencing the same issues since yesterday.

Latency will begin fine in the match, and gradually climb up to 300 ms. It’s making matches unplayable, and is incredibly frustrating as it’s been since the servers went to crap yesterday.

I also have this problem with Bell ISP.

But running speedtest shows no issues with my internet. It is as an error with Overwatch.

Thank you for the report! We’ve been seeing some high latency reports East Coast Canada. Can the following be provided?

  • ISP:
  • Region:
  • WinMTR test for 5-10 minutes while playing.
  • What server are you being connected to?
    This should be on the Network Graph next to the IP, when running the WinMTR test. (IE: [lax1])

Same, I am on east coast of Canada and since the Halloween patch ping has been around 300ms and the odd time it will be the normal 50ms. I know there was already a thread with this issue a week or two ago that was supposedly resolved. However, this entire time I and others I have chatted with are still experiencing these issues.

My ISP is Bell as well. I will do the WinMTR test shortly.

300MS with Bell near Niagara Falls Canada as well. I’m currently competing in Tespa and i’m just watching everyone slingshot around the map.

I even disconnected from the match during this test.

slugontharug Your connection appears to be reporting packet loss. I would recommend to contact your Internet Service Provider(ISP) to review the WinMTR and see if they can help resolve the packet loss starting at the modem/router. We are still looking for other examples of this issue if you are in experiencing connection issues feel free to post up your WinMTR!

I’m in Central Ohio and have this fluctuating latency issue, but only with Overwatch. Let me post my WinMTR after a bit.

Really? That’s odd, Overwatch is the only game I lag and disconnect in. I can play any other game with usually a 30-40ms ping Overwatch is usually 50ms when running good but as I stated for the past while, I have been having a lot of connection issues with Overwatch. I checked packet loss on two different games and it was 0% with latency’s of 35ms average.

Why am I only having connection problems with only Blizzard Games?

There are a lot of potential causes for this. Bad data in your game or UI files can cause both connection problems and crashes. Certain programs may fight with the game client for control of your network drivers, or eat up so much bandwidth that the connection to the game servers may be slowed or disconnect. To add to all of this, everything else that you connect to across the internet is in a different physical location. Even two different data centers in the same city may use different peering partners to connect. It’s very likely that you take a different path through the internet to connect to our servers, and so comparing two games or services is most likely not relevant. If there are any problems between your house and our servers, you’ll usually need to reach out to your ISP to get them resolved. (This is why we ask for connection tests when you’re having particularly stubborn connection problems.)

Greetings, I am from East Coast Canada too and I am currently having latency spike too from the regular 40ms all the way to 400ms. My ISP is Bell Canada and I have been trying to connect to the North American server. I tried to connect to PTR and nothing

Servers are still bad any updates??? Again 300MS. Day 2 of trying to play.

Overwatch is literally unplayable here in toronto. its literally only overwatch. can play other multiplayer games just fine

In League of Legends I have a steady ping at 27 that fluctuates to 50 ping max. So I don’t understand why I have packet loss out of all the games I play it only effects OW only and how that it can be an ISP issue?

I just had some latency spikes in World of Warcraft too that ended my arena’s for the evening. Ugh.
