Exp patch went live. Good changes overall, not a fan of the Genji changes though.
What’s everyone’s thoughts?
It’s not bad, but I just don’t think anything is going to change from this.
May I ask why? I think is the right direction.
I like the Genji changes in general. DB is an obnoxious ult with too much flexibility to be happening nearly every team fight. Not a fan of how spammy Genji is, but then again I’m really not a fan of any spam-based gameplay. I still recognize its place in the game though, appealing to the widest audience and all.
I think the broad idea of making him less of a blade bot is good, but the specific changes are a head scatcher to me. I think 15% ult charge cost is too much for the buffs they gave him. His recovery buffs don’t change any of his breakpoints, keep his dps pathetically low, and disproportinally buff players whith bad aim.
Overall I think Genji is going to be worse but even more of a noobstomper, which is the opposite effect the community wants.
Still don’t have the update on ps4
They gave you what almost everyone asked for… and your not happy? Just how much power do you want for this kit? He’s too high a ceiling for the kit to be too good…
A higher ceiling with either midfight burst potential or a dps that’s comprable to Sombra. Noone wanted a marginally faster fire rate in exchange for a massive nerf.
Really I just want them to actually buff Genji when that is their stated objective. Instead of you know; nerfing him and calling it a buff while making Genji mains and haters angry simultaneously.
I think 10% would be fair for this buff. Still lower charge overall, but the nerf is just as insignificant as the buff.
Once again, good in broad concept, but going from 112 dps to 123 dps is nothing, Sombra has 160.
Alteratively to dps buffs I think everyone would be happy with 29 damage per shuriken, which just crosses the rightclick+melee oneshot range with 3 headshots.
It’s not a real 10%, closer to 9% straight up, and lower with reload. Also makes dash and deflect 15% worse for farming. Dragonblade is going to be a lot slower, and his midfight still isn’t even close to making up the difference.
Remember, the changes to him otherwise would buff the ult charge rate.
He got a 10% increase in charge rate from his right click.
So overall, 5% ult charge increase for 10% more non burst dps?
That isn’t bad. I’d take that on any of my heroes. Though, my heroes are non bursty, so it would be even a better deal for them.
They wanted more damage output in exchange for ult charge… this effectively gives him that. Anyhow, I will be curious to see how it plays out. It might the first step of several to get him right, I don’t blame them for being cautious after the last fiasco with Genji.
To be clear, what break points are you trying to address?
I understand what you mean. The buff is not that great that it needs a compensation nerf, but they’re afraid of Genji. They’ve always been.
At this point I’ll take anything.
ANYTHING
not by 15 percent, the ult change right now makes it so that no matter how well your performing grav trans will come on line
And typically you are waiting for Ana to come on line as well.
But, if it is a problem, then tweak from here, but I suspect it will make him better overall.
In a 1 day, we will have stats, and we will know.
If he does worse in higher ranks and better in lower ranks, I’ll be first in line asking for it to be changed, since that wasn’t the target.
This is the first patch in ages that moved things in an overall positive direction but it does nothing meaningful to fix the incredibly severe tank imbalances. The changes are tiny relative to the huge changes needed.

ana charges ult very quickly

the stats won’t show the full picture, I can guarantee he won’t budge, since its currently a brawl meta he would have to be meta defining for any real change to happen
we would have to wait for a dive meta to see where he lands
This game wasn’t ready for genjiwatch meta again tbh.

You will see the win bump in ranks where he is doing better as the one tricks move to their new average SR, and then it will calm down.
You will be able to see it.

That would be a good test, but, with McCree so good, he would have to bump Tracer out to even be played there, and with Tracer in her state, who would pick Genji over her?
No one sane, that is for sure.

well yes obviously thats how a hero as significant as genji works, cree got a large surge, steady down, and maintained it since he was the real deal of a strong hero
Genji’s DPS shouldn’t be compared to Sombra’s because Genji’s kit is built around burst kills rather than sustain damage. The faster firerate makes it easier for him to reach the threshold of damage necessary for him to secure the kill with dash/melee. Sombra also has no tools to use during a duel except to translocate out and Genji has deflect and dash to gain the upper hand during a 1v1. I don’t know why you’re making this comparison when Sombra and Genji serve purposes as flankers.
And the nerf to ult charge needed to happen if his overall speed of getting ult charge would be higher. Absolutely nobody (except for some Genji mains) wants to deal with another meta defined by nanoblade. Genji mains asked for his base kit to be buffed in exchange for an ult nerf, and this is what Blizzard gave them. You should be grateful that it was the least destructive way of nerfing his ult too, and that they didn’t nerf the ult itself as compensation like the community had been proposing.
This is good though, since it gives an easy way to see if it is a buff or not, and for which ranks.
The THEORY is it should be a buff for high ranks, and a nerf for low ranks. But I’m really interested to see how it goes in practice.
