I think there’s a lot of differences between volley and FTH, mostly range, accuracy, and headshot potential. Hanzo also has a much smaller headshot hitbox than mccree, and wall-climb makes him less of a glass cannon. IMO they’re getting more similar, but they’re definitely not overlapping in roles yet.
Technically the leap ability does reload. I’ll have to see when it comes out to really say but I’m not looking forward to new hanzo. Yeah I abuse scatter once in a while but having actually played hanzo it wasn’t that consistent. Oh well I’m sure I’ll get used to the new ability
They have different abilities and they use different weapons. One can stun and other can see through walls. Fan the hammer is close quarters only but Volley is long range.
I can see how without playing him you might have this concern. But I’m finding that he plays a lot differently than McCree in playtests.
The things we are trying on Hanzo right now have him playing as a very reliable mid and long range character. The horizontal movement ability plays out as a disengage but can also be used to get to some interesting spots using wall climb. The volley ability is useful at long, mid and close ranges whereas McCree’s Fan the Hammer feels, to me, mostly like a short range option.
Hero distinctiveness is very important to us. We’ll make sure both McCree and Hanzo have their respective places.
We still have quite a bit of testing to do on Hanzo and once we start to do animation and sound, it’s going to take awhile as well.
Aren’t you describing power creep? Mccree’s FTH is 45 x 6 dealing 270 damage at close range. Hanzo is 6x80 at all ranges. McCree has no passives, Hanzo has wallclimb. McCree roll has cooldown, Hanzo’s version lunge is described to be passive with a cooldown, I’m guessing a short cooldown considering its passive? Both of their ultimates contain zoning elements with ton of damage if they land fully, the difference being burst vs dps and their utilities are flash bang and Sensor Arrow which aren’t comparable traits because they’re exclusively different types of skills.
Still, McCree’s gun is one of the best weapons as shown by pine and many other superstars, while no one has really shown any potential thus far from hanzo’s bow, at least not yet.
Hmmm, I don’t know if you have made more changes since Geoff last spoke about Hanzo but I can’t see how either of his new abilities would make Hanzo more reliable at long range.
Hanzo has always been a short/medium range sniper. If you are trying to “Snipe” with Hanzo, you are going to have a difficult time. Hanzo’s arrows are just too slow to be reliable at long range.
Volley from what I understand, shoots arrows that are essentially the same as Hanzo’s normal arrows but fire faster and deal less damage. Wouldn’t this just make him better in his current medium/short range role?
