Hello all, thought i would show my updated version of the previous post i had that I’m sure that a lot of you are aware of: Hey! Try this for Genji next Exp Card! - Overwatch Forums (blizzard.com). Tell me if you like this version better than the other I had OR, the other one was more suitable for genji’s state. Thank you!
Genji
Shuriken:
Damage increased from 28 to 29.
Primary Fire Recovery Fire Rate decreased from 0.95s to 0.9s
Secondary Fire Recovery Fire Rate decreased from 0.75s to 0.7s
Secondary Fire Spread increased from 9 to 10.5.
Shuriken Travel Speed increased from 60m/s to 70m/s .
Deflect:
Fixed inconsistency bugs where deflect won’t work properly against opponents that would sometimes shoot the genji and damage him through deflect. (This could be a hitbox and active frames issue. With some minor tweakings to make deflect work as it’s intended to)
New change from previous post Deflect will now have a 0.25s delay after manual cancelling which will prevent the genji to perform any action within that 0.25s time frame.
New change from previous post Added a small sound queue when deflect has been manually cancelled (a similar sound queue such as when genji seethes his dragonblade back after the animation has ended).
Dragonblade:
New change from previous post Ultimate Generation cost increased by 30%
New change from previous post Genji is now able to finish the full animation swing right before the dragonblade duration has ended. This is to fix the false visual confirms and allow the swing to fully follow through and deal the damage its intended to do when the duration of dragonblade is close to an end.
Cyber Agility (Passive):
To fix the inconsistency of wall climb, Genji can now wall climb an infinite amount of walls within a certain time frame. Total duration is unchanged. Just like how DVA’s Defense matrix has a bar on the right hand side to show how much time she has left to use defense matrix, Genji’s wall climb duration will now display that bar to show how much time he can climb wall to wall. The duration of wall climb will ONLY reset once genji hits the floor.
Bonus: Can apply this to hanzo too if genji gets this change.
Thanks from ArmsRacer with the idea of cancellable deflect to give it more fair play for the opponents genji is up against, and to allow the genji player to decide whether to take the “swift strike/wall climb cancel tech” for more of the “surprise and better dps” approach. It allows the genji to have more options in his arsenal whether to take a slower approach that may be safer but longer to deal dmg through manual cancel, OR a riskier but more awarding approach by using swift strike for instance to keep on more pressure and quicker dps.
personally, I felt like these changes were more tackled onto deflect to avoid another “muscle memory” issue for deflect duration i had in the other post, and just give the genji more options instead to either manual cancel or tech cancel for better and faster dps. Although cancel deflect made it easier, ArmsRacer and I agreed to nerf it in a way where it makes it more fair for the opponents and allow a genji who’s more experienced to take the swift strike approach for better, more rewarding, and faster dps.
Personally, do you find these changes better than the other one i had dude? Or the other way around? Or equally good haha?
The delay is mainly because of latency, I play on 90 ping and it can work at even 0.02s and pretty consistently at 0.05s, this is unreactable levels of time.
here is a video of the difference so you can understand it better.
It is exactly the timing that is needed to give enough time to react without making it feel like it is too much of a self stun.
Well if we want to buff genji we also need to be careful not to overdo it, like they did earlier last year, genji balance changes need to be thought very carefully because a little nudge on the wrong spot can and will make him op if we don’t compensate nerf it.
I mean it depends, this needs farther testing, remember that a 0.05s can still be meaningful sometimes, remember that the average visual reaction time is around 0.3s and that the the reaction time for audio is around 0.25s, remember average, this means that people who play games will probably have a faster reaction time, and when canceling deflect you are trying to out play the enemy, so maybe giving them too large of a widow to do something is bad, again this is something we can’t really tell now but after testing it would be a lot easier to pin point the exact time.
If i did, i would agree on “remove dmg boosted blade!” because thats legit what all of the genji hate moab wants to nerf him in. This is overall buffing the hero more than hurting. Im taking the less blade commonality path while he gets to keep his blade dmg potential because im aware naked blade sucks in higher ranks.
Base kit is overall much better in terms of overall dps and shuriken speed. Spread is nerfed a bit to make him not a tank buster from far ranges but not make bad genjis spam M2 from 99999m anymore. Deflect is suggested to fix its inconsistency which is a QoL change to make him more consistent (small buff). Wall climb is also suggested to fix his inconsistency so you dont get messed up anymore, which is also another QoL change (small buff). Dragonblade also suggested to finally make a full swing near end dragonblade duration for another QoL change so you don’t get fooled by the false visual bug and actually deal damage (small buff).
Pretty sure this powershift suggestion is overall making him better with small steps while toning down some of the buffs that made him easier and nerfing ult charge rate. I’ll be honest with you dude, I cant accept dmg boosted blade being removed. THATS what the genji hate mob wants. That would ultimately make him entirely worse. So right now, I’m doing small buff numbers to kit to improve overall dps and give him less blades, while giving him QoL changes to help fix his bugs and whatnot. Pretty sure this isnt hurting the hero at all but benefiting him more and making him more fair and useable.
And as mentioned, If he’s still suffering, why not make another suggestion and change from things here and there. This overall is legit making him better than what he is doing right now by being so heavily reliant on nanoblade bot status.
I’ll probably just set this to 0.25s for more even ground. it still feels more fair while keeping his fluidity and he doesnt at all look like hes stun locked into the animation. if i were to add a sound queue to his deflect cancel then yeah, 0.25s would just be right. Overall would be better than the 1.75s deflect duration i had a while back
