Experimental Mode – More Hero Balance January 2021

Hey everyone!

We’re back with another Experimental mode focused on testing some balance changes. As with all Experimental modes, these changes are not guaranteed to reach the live version of the game. Check out the patch notes here.

What are we trying to address?

While we don’t have an overarching theme for today’s Experimental patch, we’re hoping to get your feedback on a handful of heroes.

What are we testing?

For this Experimental patch, we’re adjusting three heroes:

Echo – Echo is intended to be a high-mobility, burst damage hero. Right now she’s excelling a bit too much against high-health heroes and barriers. In adjusting her Tri-Shot and Focusing Beam abilities, we’re aiming to reduce her efficacy at shredding Tanks, but still allow her to fulfill her existing role against other heroes.

Tracer – Tracer’s Pulse Pistols are slightly over-performing at mid-range. While these weapons are meant to be effective at longer ranges than other close-range heroes (say, Reaper), she’s still intended to be played at a relatively close range. We’ll continue to keep an eye on further adjustments, since Tracer’s mid-range effectiveness is also impacted heavily by bullet spread.

Zenyatta –We’re looking to adjust Orb of Discord’s damage debuff quality since it’s been overperforming in some team compositions. As part of this process, we’re reducing the projectile movement speed of Orb of Discord and Harmony, which will in turn make them move at the same speed as Orb of Destruction (his primary fire).

We hope you check out the new Experimental mode and provide us with your feedback! Science will reveal the truth – And all great science requires data! As always, this is an Experiment, so the changes in this test may not reach the live game.

Thank you!

The only ones I dont get are the projectile speed nerfs for both the orbs…

Like with sigma, you are making him clunky for no reason

Zen IMO only needed 25% discord. The speed nerfs feel unnecessary. if you wanted to make him weaker, then buff rush. His viability drops like a fly in lucio rush metas

Now he just fees clunky for no reason

Tracer and echo nerfs are good however

Good nerfs.

Really? Only 3 changes?
We need big changes to make the game playable. What’s the point of doing experimental then? It’s 99,99 % confirmed that these changes will go live. Where are the agressive changes you promised last year?

The tyranny of pinball rodent meta continues.

Next experimental hopefully are tank buffs.

THANK YOU for finally giving decent nerfs to heavily power crept heroes instead of the slap on the wrist we saw with ball and Ashe. More adjustments like this please

Well at least the zen and echo nerfs are coming first so main tank will be more playable.

This Experimental mode is anticipated to be available until the morning (PST) of Monday, January 25.

Main tanks suck because mercy zen brig is meta, lucio Ana Moira sucks, so tanks lack sustain and utility from supports

The tank buster buffs don’t help but they aren’t the cause

Tracer waited those nerfs a long time ago. Echo kinda lame but thats the start. Zen is oof.
Where are the tank changes tho???

Hmm I thought it was zens discord destroying main tank guess I was wrong

It’s part of the reason, but ultimately it’s just the support balance and meta that just screws up the tank role. The dps tank buster buffs like Hanzo storm arrow is just the cherry on top

Finally, Tracer gets her fall-off buff rever-…

While I don’t think Zen needed these specific nerfs, this is the style of balance changes I prefer to see: several smaller changes at a time rather than big ones that can ruin or overpower a hero. I’d rather see more heroes at a time adjusted like this, but the power levels of these adjustments are good.

Don’t think Zen needed these nerfs

Just revert Tracer fully…

not sure about you but all the 3 changes are the ones the game NEEDED the MOST currently and it is getting it.
