After Playing Sigma and Orisa for 2 days, here's what i gathered

So after I made this bold claim: Please stop picking Roadhog - #35 by Nightstream-11165

I acted on it starting the moment I made it.

The shortest version of this I can give is that Sigma and Orisa suck and need changes.

For starters, Orisa’s barrier is very flimsy. It breaks so easily with all the burst damage or just general damage coming your way. I can’t protect my team in such a way with this. The cooldown either needs to be shorter or Orisa needs something different for her barrier.

My suggestion?
Put it at 900 again and be able to channel it like Reinhardt and Sigma’s shields. Meaning it needs to have a recharge rate.
Why?
This actually reduces the synergy between her and Sigma a lot just by doing this. It gives Orisa her tank power back and no longer allows her to place a new shield after the first one breaks or give her the power to cover multiple sightlines every 8 seconds.

Oh but it doesn’t end there just yet

Suggestion 2
Orisa’s barrier is now magnetic. Meaning it can stick to walls or ceilings. She can fire it out faster and retract it just as fast.
Why?
Now you probably wouldn’t want to throw it on a ceiling in every case, or maybe you do, idk, but this allows her to place the barrier at certain corners to better peak from. She can stick a shield on objects anyway, haven’t you tried the basketballs?

Suggestion 3
To compensate for the new barrier, Orisa’s HP has been increased to 500.
200 HP, 300 Armor
Why?
Extra survivability for when the barrier gets shreddi to confetti

Suggestion 4
Movement penalty reduced while shooting reduced to 40%, down from 50%
Why?
Make’s her job of being a main tank on Attack easier. Same reasoning Reinhardt had a shield movement penalty reduced to 30%

Optional buffs

  • Tighter gun spread to make shooting easier on slimmer targets
  • Orisa has her own Steadfast called Reinforced which grants 20% immunity

Sigma is an interesting case, I’ve had better luck with him than I’ve had with Orisa simply because that barrier is stronger. Did you know, in custom games, barrier HP is relative to hero HP?

Though as it stands, Sigma has more glaring issues than Orisa. His HP isn’t very great for a supposed main tank. That kind of HP gives more of the impression of an offtank. So i have some ideas to remedy him

Suggestion 1:
Readjustment of HP
250 hp, 250 shields.
Why?
This is done to more clearly define Sigma’s role as a tank and not depend on Kinetic Grasp as much for survivability

Suggestion 2:
Kinetic Grasp max shield absorbed reduced to 300
Kinetic Grasp damage to shield conversion ratio reduced to 50%
Every 100 shields absorbed grants 10% knockback resistance
Why?
A simple readjustment of his power now that he has more HP.

Suggestion 3:
Barrier HP increased to 1100
Shield regeneration increased to 150
Why?
While Sigma may have more power to protect himself now, he now needs more barrier to protect his team

Suggestion 4:
Gravitic Flux no longer cancels if killed or stunned
Why?
This is done so that Sigma can actually get value out of his ult without losing it so easily

Additional changes:

  • Gravitic Flux does more damage at it’s center but can still be cancelled

  • Hyperspheres explosion damage back up to 35 from 30

  • Sigma has his own Steadfast called Gather Matter which grants 20% knockback and can be as much as 50% with 300 absorbed shields from Kinetic Grasp

Oh but it’s not all over yet. There are still two more tanks that need touching up

Reinhardt needs some changes going forward with this as well. Should Sigma and Orisa rise back into power, Reinhardt at least needs to hold his own as a main tank.

Suggestion 1:
Shield HP increased to 1700
Why?
This is done in preparation for Echo. Echo can melt shields faster with burst damage and her particle beam if they’re under half HP. This buff is so Reinhardt can hold out and protect his team longer. Even if slightly

Suggestion 2:
Steadfast adjusted to 40%
Why?
Well it was buffed from 30% to 50% but people deemed this was too high so 40% is a reasonable middle ground.

Suggestion 3:
Earthshatter now has a better visual
Why?
More than i can remember, there have been times where Reinhardt hit me with a shatter and I didn’t even know it could reach me. This should remedy that.

Last tank to get any sort of buffs from this would be Roadhog as he lacks some potential.

Suggestion 1:
Take a Breather gives an AOE field that reduces damage by 25%
Why?
This is so Roadhog can provide more utility to the offtank category and soak up damage more responsibly for him and his team.

Suggestion 2:
Take a Breather gives 10% healing to allies in its field
Why?
This is done so Roadhog can also help his allies stay in the fight longer.

All that said and out of the way, let’s talk about how the games went.

Honestly, they didn’t go so well. I won a couple because I had platinum level teammates on my side, I played well enough to carry my team to victory without being told to swap, and others because the enemy team was just bad. I mainly used Sigma for defense and Orisa for attacking and sometimes swapping between the two. A big thing I felt while going through this ordeal was that I felt underpowered no matter who I played. Power doesn’t have to be raw damage, it can be simple things like HP. This was my biggest problem. It was hard to push on 2CP attack maps with either of these heroes and I wanted to swap off to Reinhardt a lot of the time so I could do just that.

Speaking of which, I did swap to Reinhardt once but that was towards the end of a long match I thought I had a good chance of winning.

Anyways, another thing i struggled with was Ult usage. Orisa’s barrier was so thin that it was risky to use right in front of me while I tried to push otherwise it’d get destroyed instantly. I did use corners where I could as to not have the connection break either. Sigma’s Ult lead to me dying a couple times since it can be cancelled through a stun or death. Sigma already doesn’t have much going for him so this was frustrating to go through over and over.

The losses were pretty bad when they happened. From 0 caps on 2CP to 0-2 on control maps. It can truly get bad with these two.

On the off chance no developer sees this post, i’m going to see if I can recreate any of this stuff in the Workshop to the best of my already nonexistent ability so people can put it into practice. Along with that could come other balance changes.
Total SR loss was only about 80 and the worst was a 4 game losing streak

oh yeah, here’s another post about Reinhardt and why he’s popular

I like the idea of buffing Orisa but your buffs are far too much and would make her extremely OP.

well do keep in mind that you can’t base a hero’s power simply in a vacuum, you have to gauge it in an actual match.
Her barrier would get shredded even faster when Echo arrives so that would have to be buffed, to prevent spam, she has a recharge timer to it, the HP buff can go either way, but the magnetic shield gives her more flexibility in defending. The movement speed increase was an inbetween for the one that she got in 1-3-2. It gives her better potential to work on hybrid attack maps. or just Attack maps in general

You can’t balance around Echo. New heroes that are OPAF always ruin the game for several months, then they’re nerfed into complete trash and left there forever. Echo will ruin everything until about July and then be gone forever. Hopefully.

better to balance for the next upcoming several months than leave orisa and sigma to rot in that time and maybe longer

Unfortunately the next few months will be a mess regardless. New OP heroes always ruin the game. I don’t know why they can’t seem to help making them.

After Sigma I stopped looking forward to new hero releases and started to dread them. Sigma added -1 heroes to the game since he took out Orisa with him.

more like Orisa took him with her.
Sigma didn’t have to go down the drain the way he did. He just synergized too well with Orisa and thats something nobody predicted

It took you two days of playing orisa to gather that she sucked? Lol it took me one game.

2 days was more than enough time. I’m always thorough with my research. Same case was with 1-3-2 where i played 40+ games of tank alone to gather proper thoughts

Well that was a joke, but yeah, orisa absolutely needs changes. Its honestly insulting how easy it is for a Reinhardt comp to steamroll an orisa or a sigma comp.

They’re supposed to be anchors for their team, but they aren’t at all. They’re pathetically easy to roll over.

sigma especially. He has no resistance to cc or anything.
that said, any comments for the changes listed?

I don’t really like the idea of a magnetic shield. It seems like it would mess with her playstyle and is unnecessary.

More health and more speed while firing is probably excessive.

I would probably just give her 800 shield hp or an 8 second shield cooldown and call it a day.

When I think Orisa, I think of a defense style tank. I think that reducing her damage to 10 and nerfing halt but buffing her shield and maybe fortify couls help?

and we all know what that led to. And more importantly, what it’ll lead to again

i mean, she already has one. this can just stick to walls:

yeah this can go either way tbh

She needs the damage and halt to avoid being overrun by Reinhardt. That’s why she has halt in the first place.

i thought that’s why she has fortify, i mean, her highlight intro points this out specifically

Well, I think the problem isn’t Orisa, it’s Sigma. Sigma has a barrier but has off-tank like damage and other abilities. It’s what makes double barrier with Sigma amazing but with Reinhardt trash.

*Thats what Fortify was for. That one movement penalty buff Orisa got never made it to live. It would help her 100%.

Oh I agree its 100% Sigma

so lets remedy sigma to not be so much of an offtank. If he really had to be one, i think he’d be better off losing the barrier
