Adding a Role Q wouldn't solve any issues

Exactly the opposite - it would strengthen the HERO identities and add more variance to what a role can be.

There’s no need to worry about so many ridiculous and very specific team comps that would be stupidly overpowered, so that gives the game designers more power to add more extreme hero abilities.

  1. qeue for matches would kill the game, its now WOW that you got a million other things to do while waiting for dung or raid
  2. nothing, NOTHING guarantees you that tank player you will get is good player, so frustration over ‘bad teammates’ will NOT go away, in fact it will increase because of wait time ‘wasted’
  3. if there was separated ‘role queue’ and ‘normal qeue’ it would devide player base and it would increase waiting time even more, it would require separated SRs in ranked, deep and problematic changes in MMR
  4. i would prefer that developers directed their efforts in to more productive things for all players, not a fraction of players
  5. LFG works? no, it doesnt … only fraction of players use it and its kind of role qeue

I’ve seen this in WoW and other games, it doesn’t.

None of those games are overwatch. You also didnt tell me why i’m wrong.

Also, we used to have free picks on multiple of the same hero. That reduced scope if potential teams from to 729,000,000 possible picks to 427,518,000. That helped the game.

You eliminate the notion of hybrids. You can’t have specialists, because there’ll be an expectation that DPS can DPS, Support can Support, Tanks can tank etc. I mean we already had a thread asking to double down on the select to a Tank and off-Tank, Healer and off-Healer. Because those kinds of bad combinations are still very possible.

There was also plenty of crying over whether Symmetra was Support and eventually had to be moved.

Specialist like Mei, Symmetra, Sombra or Torb are taken in place of a Tank or Support. So you’re asking for numerous further reworks to homogenise them into those roles.

At the end of it, you don’t end with Overwatch as the game. And you don’t have the same hero variety.

Apparently it’s confirmed they’re adding it.

Edit: Take what I’m saying with a grain of salt by the way, I can’t even remember where I heard it.

There’s no reason why you cant have hybrids. Not sure where you got that from.

There’s no reason you cant have specialists, in fact they’re more important.

You’ve yet to address my points on why reduced team combinations means more power for the devs to create more varied and interesting classes.

Jeff literally saying it would cause problems for hybrids maybe?

Instead of parroting him, tell me why.

Okay so when we went to no stacking, there was usually an alternative to use in combination. Two Winstons became Winston and D.Va, two Tracers or two Genjis became one of each, two Soldiers, McCree and Solder, there’s Widow and Hanzo; and so on. There was, and even more so now, plenty of overlap between heroes that you could still stack general purpose. But generally 2-2-2 was still the way to go.

On specialists and Hybrids, they’re usually picked as 3rd in role.

And then there’s countering, whether you’re using Winston or D.Va to counter Widow, Brig to counter Genji or Tracer, or whatever; they’re assuming a role of DPS and as such are best taken replacing a DPS.

Well, no, that’s not the case - teams were insane back then. 2 winstons turned into 6 winstons to stall the payload at the end of the game (a problem we dont have now).

Think about 6 Baptistes stacking immortality field - 20 second cooldown, 8 second duration. The entire team would have been immortal for the ENTIRE GAME. That’s another example of how the designers got more freedom to create unique, character defining abilities through reducing the variance of hero combinations.

We’re talking about an entirely new meta - “usually” doesn’t count anymore. As it is now, we have no pure healers - everyone is a dps hybrid or DPS enabler. If the enemy team has 2 flankers smashing me on ana, i’m gonna go Moira to counter because of her abilities and survival. So, less healing means my team might have to think about their picks too - do they go hog or zarya to help protect their team and take less heals themselves? Or do they do something else? Does someone switch to soldier to help out? There’s a lot of depth within the system that i dont think you’ve fully explored.

actually , as a DPS main, wait time wont be longer in high elo
gm i full of tanks and supports, an few DPS

I see streamers all the time complaining that theyre matched with 4 healers, almost never seen that happen with DPS

I couldn’t find the first source but they said before that they have role queue ready and can flip the switch if they decided it was necessary but want LFG to succeed.

2nd is in this post/video Stylosa/Jeff Kaplan Interview Part 2 - Competitive Talk, Role Queue, Game Features, etc

  • In its current state, the average queue time would go up to as much as 13 to 26 minutes in order to get a fair match in a damage role. So it is not as easy to solve. He did mention he could flip the role queue switch right now with these problems.

He talks about being able to “flip the switch” again, but they need to work on it further.

Also the fact that they never talk about anything, and recently they talked about 4-1-1 not being fun and that they like Role Queue with role based SR.

awww DPS mains dont like the fact that theyre a dime a dozen :sob:

They like less the fact that actual good DPS mains are really hard to come by

Yeah I think it’s been ready since the Yeti Hunter event, which has role queue.

Based on that it probably would look more like ‘role preference’, however.

It’s not something I want, but maybe they could trial it as an Arcade Mode first.

So those of us who play different roles (you know, like the game was designed to be played) can’t enjoy the benefits of role queue because those of us who selfishly play one class don’t want to queue longer?

Sorry, but the benefits of role queue for those who want it massively outweigh shorter queue times for uncooperative players.

I don’t think it is a horrible idea, I just don’t think it will be as much as a panacea to this games woes people think it will be.

Still getting 5 DpS in GrandMaster. How about this, no one care about winning games anymore, no one care about getting T500 anymore.
Everyone create diamond smurf now.

I have more challenge playing against smurf in diamond than main account in GM.
The state of the game, the meta, the community, everything.
So 2-2-2 won’t solve any problem, but at least no more 5 Dps in ranked.

The game is designed to be played in high rank/pro play, because it’s a competitive games you know.

The best way to getting good at anything is to specialize. If you main Dps heroe you’re a selfish player, but if you main main tank you’re not ?

Now these days maining Dps heroes is being uncooperative ? Can’t wait to see some Torbjorn one trick getting T500 in one season by being uncooperative.

Hmm, that’s good to know. At least they’re being careful about rolling out changes like this. Long queue times is hell to manage.
