Why hate original characters so much?

Quite simply, because that’s a slot that could have been used for HotS’ primary focus, which was always to be a hero brawler for characters from Blizzard’s other franchises. They began to shift that focus with Orphea - the only character I haven’t unlocked yet - which bothered me to begin with.

I haven’t played more than 5 games since they ruined it with the movement speed buff, thought I might come back if the new hero was awesome enough, but I won’t waste gold on a Nexus original when there are still skins for real heroes to be bought.

Hots is a realm for already created Blizzard franchise heroes, not new ones. That’s why people play this game.

Qhira could be introduced in Overwatch not Hots

it was large claw marks, (implying a big monster)
over a dragon icon, (deathwing betrayed his fellow dragons)
with fiery embers floating around (implying fire, obviously)
and a big loud monster grumbling [in the several second teaser]

fun fact, at the same time as those teasers were out and we were all guessing who it was (hyped for deathwing) they sat down to talk about upcoming stuff…infront of a giant poster of…Deathwing.

so who should we have expected from all of that?
Deathwing or D.va?
the fire, the claw marks, the dragon icons, the monster growls,
obviously a little girl in a mech suit!

I am not sure where Jackice pulled all the quotes, but it looks like they are quoting a developer interview from somewhere.

It was large claw marks that looked exactly like the D3 icon
over a dragon icon that even the forums noted looked exactly like the hanamura gate
with fiery embers floating around implying that Diablo was on the prowl, as noted by the D3 Icon on the door
and a big loud monster grumbling because Diablo is a tiny pink fluffy bunny

Diablo. Who was in the movie.
Unless you were an idiot. That’s your call.

That’s obvious in hindsight, but you have to remember:

Blizzard was teasing a NEW HERO. Why would people expect Diablo when Diablo is already in the game? Why not give a little tease at D.Va instead?

the forums noted looked exactly like the hanamura gate

yes it was the hanamura gate, which is 2 dragons,
(in a reveal for D.va it doesn’t seem very relevant to focus on a dragon logo with claw marks!)

large claw marks that looked exactly like the D3 icon

nope the claw marks aren’t the diablo 3 logo,
(the D3 logo is the mark that Diablo has on his head, not claw marks.)
the claw marks from the teaser are more \I/ (claw marks)
than the diablo 3 III logo

nothing, not one tiny thing pointed to D.va as the hero being revealed.
but we have claw marks, fire, dragons and loud growls

I don’t know. Apparently HotS is a mash-up of several Blizzard universes, according to the forums. Those who could tell the setting was clearly from Overwatch (you know, like when Blizzard said “Something lurks in Hanamura . . .”) were expecting something from Overwatch. Those who bothered to admit that the claw marks were from D3 were expecting something from Diablo.

Loonies who believed that a little tiny blob of purple on a graphic was undeniable proof of Stukov expected Deathwing.

Yes, it absolutely wasn’t taking place in an Overwatch setting. Yeesh.

And I had the same argument back when the teasers came out telling people that it was the D3 icon they were looking at.

For starters, we already knew Hanamura was a map. That launched with Genji, so it was already part of the Nexus at that point. Essentially, you could put anything there and it wouldn’t be out of place. The location wasn’t a hint.

Also, D.Va doesn’t have anything to do with Hanamura. That’s Japan, she’s Korean. It’d be like teasing Grom with a picture of Ironforge. Well it’s on Azeroth, of course it was Grom!

So why focus on “something lurking” when that something was 100% inconsequential? I’m not arguing that it didn’t add up to Diablo, I’m arguing that it was horrifically misleading.

Really? The location wasn’t a hint that maybe one could expect something from Overwatch? That’s not Blizzard being misleading, that’s willful ignorance. We can’t expect somebody from the same universe because she happens to be from Korea, but we can expect a massive dragon from a different universe! That’s some sound logic.

It sure is, buddy.

you mean like having diablo there?
they can have diablo there but not deathwing?
and is the absolute only D.va connection in this teaser that its an OW map?

absolutely nothing to do with the dragon logo, the monster sounds being heard, the fire, the giant claw marks.

we’re not allowed to expect a large fiery dragon, because its on an OW map?
we should just ignore all of the signs that point towards that dragon!

which OW characters would be making that growl,
which OW characters would leave giant claw marks?
why is everything burning?

Hate is a strong word.
What I dislike is them revoking their word shamelessly, and the even bigger problem is they keep revoking and revoking. Anything good they say about heroes might just be a lie they back out on when it behooves them.

Qhira the Quota Queen feels less like “she would enrich the roster and the Nexus itself as a whole” and more like, like Orphea, “we want a specific niche in gameplay filled by a type of girl we don’t have fully represented in a Blizzard character that already exists.” Fun how both OCs are girl archetypes that don’t properly otherwise exist.
So to me, for filling up a spot on the diversity quota, she’s Qhira the Quota Queen.

Oh, and it looks like she’s designed to wreck Overwatch picks, so like Orphea I expect to see a lot of her.

It´s refreshing not using any of traditional B´s characters in HotS. I prefer mechanics over some bland and generic Blizzard´s stories over chars. Orphea´s play style is more interesting than KT so why should I care.

They still have so many more characters with Rich stories from their universe. There are still a good 20 or so characters they can release.

You could always try reading the conversation, and then responding to that.

Here, I’ll save you time.

He said it couldn’t have been D. Va because she’s Korean. I pointed out that such reasoning makes Deathwing an even bigger stretch.

See how that works?

I pointed out that the fact that it’s an Overwatch location makes it reasonable to expect something from Overwatch. It was then pointed out that . . .

Nothing. Except rambling about how the indications about a Diablo character couldn’t possibly lead somebody to expect on Overwatch character. Which, while a sensible point, really has nothing to do with the actual point, which is that an Overwatch location is pretty big hint that Overwatch characters might show up.

See also:

In which MulocAggroB suggests that it’s probably some kind of dragon or demon on the Overwatch map.

Especially fun is this, from another poster in the same thread:

“Really hoping we get something satisfying though. I have a feeling that the creature lurking in Hanamura is Prime Evil Diablo. Entirely possible that the new hero getting revealed will be aiding Genji, not fighting him.”

That sure looks like people getting mislead, all right. Clearly nobody could have guessed what was coming.

so one freakishly lucky post?

also note that some in the thread think its a hanzo reveal,
some think its DEATHWING,
noone…again, NOONE think’s it’s D.va.

also many in there seem to think its on Hanamura because it will feature Genji,
someone thought it was gonna be a diablo character joining genji.

there is also this

Yeah, no.

Hanzo’s dragons do not scratch stuff, nor do they make loud growls.
I don’t think of Hanzo when I see giant dragon claws.

so apparently loud growls and dragon claw marks aren’t as obviously a hint for D.va as you’d think!

i think this has gone long enough, but i’d just like to make it clear again, that loud monster noises, fire everywhere, claw marks over dragon icons and a tagline “something evil lurks in hanamura” doesn’t make you an idiot for expecting something big, evil, fiery and dragon themed…

The reason why ppl don’t like Nexus OCs:

  • Every time a Nexus OC i born, one less oportunity to get their fantasy waifu / husbando

Yeah people should have known based on that it would be Diablo! Oh wait he was already out. Hm, what other large fiery monsters with claws could possibly be added? Oh what’s that? The teaser had ABSOLUTELY nothing connecting it to the hero being announced? Well people should have expected that! It’s not like that defeats the entire purpose of a teaser! Kind of like having teasers for a character NO ONE OUTSIDE OF BLIZZARD KNEW EXISTED. But at least the teasers were relevant to the character so kuddos to them for that.
