I don’t get it. Why do people hate them so much? If anything they get me excited, especially Qhira now. Besides Orphia, they give us can give us more insight to what a realm could be like and potential on what a new Blizzard project could be. I’m not saying they are perfect, Heroes lore is about as good as Overwatch, but I’ll take an original character in a 3 month slot over no character every 6 months.
Because if Blizzard hadn’t released this original character, they would have for sure released Deathwing, whom they’ve obviously been holding back ever since people saw three claw marks that looked like the Diablo 3 launch icon and the door of an Overwatch location and convinced themselves it was a teaser for a World of Warcraft raid boss.
Not hate, only a wasted oportunity. Even one of those villagers that became a zombie in an early mission in Warcraft 3 would have been more welcomed than that wakanda nobody-asked-for princess…
That’s true. There was nothing but good cheer and rejoicing when Mal’ganis was released. Absolutely nobody was asking “who is this?” and “why is Blizzard bothering with this minor unimportant character?” In fact, it’s safe to say that each new hero release has been greeted with universal euphoria and ritualistic dances of rejoicing by the forums, except in this case.
Personally I’d take an original character because of potential of what could come then some side character from WoW or Hearthstone card
I like Oprhea, but this one is meh, at least they gave Orphea a backstory, where as this new hero has basically no backstory. let me compare the 2
Oprhea: daughter of the raven lord (who is someone people known since Hots started) doesn’t like that her father is causing havoc in all the other realms and decided to defeat him in battle once for all and join the heroes of the nexus to stop other threats that might threaten the realm.
Qhira: her realm was destroyed and was forced to hunt on her own but doesn’t take pleasure in killing.
At least the nexus born Oprhea had a backstory with an existing character from Hots when as with Qhira was just a surprise to basically everyone.
I think she’ll be a fun hero to play and learn but her backstory is just not there.
Yeah. I remember all the topics praising the HotS team whenever new heroes are released with happiness all around.
There are SO many things that the community is happy about.
I’m especially proud of how everyone rejoiced over the release of Overwatch characters in HotS, which are even now mentioned as Blizzard IPs (And always were. It’s not like us to suddenly decide that OW heroes are only ok now because we got mad at something else. Can you IMAGINE how little credibility that would have? lol)
Good times.
But they would absolutely could relate so well to the character they saw in WoW 3 years ago once or twice. Why can’t I play as this NPC, Blizzard? Game is unplayable, 2/10.
Qhira: her realm was destroyed and was forced to hunt on her own but doesn’t take please in killing.
Um, she doesn’t hunt her own. Her realm was so advanced that when they fought each other it became cataclysmic. She escaped with her life and works as a bounty hunter while looking for survivors from Iresia.
(Just my opinion, but I assume she doesn’t want her entire race to face extinction. )
But between you and me, I’m pretty sure most players won’t look up either story. So it makes little difference.
the TL;DR on why people are upset:
-zero build up/lore
-Slow release schedule
-Playing as blizz heroes has been a big pull/premise of the game
I can see why people would be mad about Qhira due to her lack of information but this is basically Blizzard starting to build more Realms in the game. The way it’s been till now, it has only been WoW, StarCraft, Diablo, Overwatch and TLV with a few realms scattered around but it’s mostly been the first 4 I mentioned. Excluding skins, witch some take names from the aforementioned 4 universes, we know very little about other universes. I see this as Blizzard trying to world build and make something happen with Heroes. Heck for all we know all of the complaining could have derailed plans they had, witch could entirely be possible because the outcry from the community has been pure negative because they didn’t get someone else

Nothing’s stopping you from doing that.

Ok, sort of offtopic, but blizz really hasn’t done a good job of introducing lore to the game, especially if you want to exclude the sentence-long tidbits from skin descriptions. They’ve gotten better over time, but it’s still not what it should be.
I still don’t see why people don’t actually look at the big picture of an original character. If Qhira, rather then getting yelled at for the crime of being original, had been looked at with optimism for what could happen then I could see things going way differently. I mean, besides the lack of lore I see nothing wrong with Blizzard wanting to test stuff with Heroes
Yes, it is time to change the awesome trailer with Arthas, Diablo, Jimmy, Kerrigan, Tyrael and Kerrigan-wannabe for that of little lolita princess and wakanda little princess crying about her evil father or that contract for killing Murky impossible to achieve because it resurrects in 0.1 seconds. Epicness!!!

They did that with Whitemane too.
I’m not particularly interested in nexus originals either, but they are hardly anything worth getting worked up over.

Hmmm…
Looking at the YouTube “Mal’Ganis Spotlight” video: 16k likes, 422 dislikes
Looking at the “Qhira Spotlight” video: 6k likes, 5.7k dislikes
So yeah, that is totally the same thing. /rolledeyes

I’ll say. It’s almost as though people who post on this forum and people who vote on youtube videos aren’t actually the same.
Weird.
Why is everything black now associated with Wakanda? There are literally dozens upon dozens of countries full of rich culture to base her on without resorting to a Taika Waititi movie. Many of which had inspiration taken from to create the big screen representation of a fictional nation’s various tribes from marvel comics. Her world resembles Numbani from Overwatch more than anything else. Do a bit better job at complaining. She isn’t even a princess.
Calling her a “Wakanda-nobody” is a pretty clear indication that you seem to think black characters only exist now to emulate a single movie and you’re annoyed at the focus it’s drawn to black communities in and out of Africa. If it were that she was only a nexus hero, and not a black hero, you wouldn’t have needed to draw the “Wakanda” parallel, because if you truly didn’t like that she was only a nexus hero, the backstory of her home and what she looked like wouldn’t be such a clear issue for you and many of the people throwing a fit.
Qhira is a remant of 2018 plan, before the announcement of last december.
She not bad, it just that most people werent expecting any other OC than Orphea.
It was way too late in 2018 to start hots lore anyway. Thematic skin for event was enough, didn’t have to create story and character around skins.
