Update on Climate Phenomena Anomaly

uh… you mean 3 weeks?
Like the time that they normally release a follow up patch after a major content patch?

I think it was to long. I think once the performance issues were obvious, it should have been killed.

But it being killed when they do a patch makes complete sense, and them waiting for the patch to announce such a thing is expected.

Yeah THAT’S going to work /s

Why? Then they just don’t get the feedback they need, since draft modes are where real balancing should be done

Of the Nexus Anomalies we’ve seen there was basically no way to avoid giving em all at once, the XP globes would have been pointless without, you know the one thing that had people up in arms until they got fine tuned.
Call for help same deal, only thing they could have changed was keep original damage and the slow (which some could argue would be even more damming as that slow makes ite ven harder to get out then the current system of damage and anti armour)

the first part of feedback is:

  1. does it function as intended
  2. does it annoy players in specific ways
  3. does it hurt performance

Keeping all of these out of ranked for the first 3 weeks until you have a more robust anomaly seems reasonable.

There are reasons not to do it. But it isn’t that insane a request/idea.

Considering that Unranked is barren as all heck, how are they going to test it in a draft setting then?
And why the heck should QM and Brawl be the dumping ground solely, what makes ranked the exception to something that is effecting the balance of the game in the modes people practice in for Storm League?

this current/now dead anomaly is a good example.

Performance impacts on every mode are a problem, but they are a much larger problem in a ranked mode.

Ranked is also meant to give you as fair a game as possible. It is the most serious mode in the game, where balance is the most important.

Did any of the changes or issues in any anomaly so far that it not being in draft wouldn’t allow them being fixed?

After you figure out the terrible issues with anomaly (tower anomaly being triggered by Dot, exp globes version 1 being bad, weather having performance impacts and other issues) with the first patch you add them to ranked.

So you keep ranked as “stable” as possible and throw in a “better balanced” anomaly to make the potential “instability” in a game mode that is meant to be stable less.

I think i’m being a bit rambly here, so hope it is clear.

and again, there are plenty of reasons outside of this to keep anomalies in ranked/draft modes when introduced. I’m not saying that they should be kept out, just noting that for “fixing major issues” you don’t need draft mode.

Thank you! I’m very happy that you listened to the feedback!

Alright point taken.

Leoric instantly becomes s tier, zeratool might shoot up to s tier, and stack heroes fall to Dva tier

The weather was an interesting idea, but not implemented in the best way.

Me. I wanted it.

More shields for a protos never hurts. Or does it :open_mouth:

Until Varian takes Shattering Throw at 13. Then it hurts. A lot.

Anomalies were neat experiments, but I’m definitely in favor of working on some of the more long-standing issues and generally refining the core game experience.

Thank you! I will see if I can get my friends that left over the anomalies to play again when they are removed.

if you are looking for recommendations:
1.) Improve AI
2.) Bring Back Haunted Mines
3.) Improve Matchmaking

Questions to ask before adding an anomaly:
1.) Can the anomaly hurt performance (FPS)?
2.) Can the anomaly cause LAG?
3.) Can the anomaly cause unintended hero imbalance?
4.) Does the anomaly service the intended purpose?
5.) Does the anomaly have any unintended secondary effects?

Yes.
The engine is OLD and was built “the wrong way round” (judging by a video documenting the engine development for SC2 WoL). Performance was not a feature, but an optimisation done towards the end of the dev cycle.

I wouldn’t disagree with this normally, but

I agree about the exp globe. The weather anomaly was so unimpactful and simple I agree as well.

But the call for help anomaly definitely could’ve. There’s three aspects to it in the original patch:
-The targeting logic
-Armour shred
-Damage increase to heroes

The goal of the anomaly was to make heroes feel more protected. Any one of those would work towards that goal

Thank you for listening to us. I am grateful and trust us, it’s for the greater good. I can finally play again!

See the armour shred is the only thing they could have taken out, and thing is attack speed slow and move speed slow that the original towers had I could make a case would be even more damming then the damage and armour shred we got due to just how easy it owuld make pounce comps

So put simply while the damage was a bit much fact of the matter is we would have had to adjust it a dozen times regardless of what we did the moment the targetting was added.

Please stop using the word cadence forever regarding HOTS
I’m sad to see the anomalies go, but I cant wait for Haunted Mines to come back! Thank you for all you do

You want ranked to change in a big way every season? What’s the point in ranked then? If it’s not consistent it’s pointless.

You mean this video?
Where they spent 3 years optimizing, fixing bugs and working on the campaign?

Real rushed optimization.
