Update on Climate Phenomena Anomaly

I’m sorry to tell you…

But your computer IS a potato, that’s not normal!

It’s never consistent.
Meta changes, patches change heroes.
When they add new heroes it changes.
When they used to add maps and have map rotations it changed.
Even when nothing about the game changes, I see compositions that I’m unfamiliar with, simply because unless you’re at the very top of GM in a 5 man there’s the unpredictability of the people you’re matched with.

Though no matter how much it changes there will always be some things that remain consistent.
Getting ahead / keeping up in levels is always important.
Checking the minimap and watching out for bushes during rotations is important.
Destroying the enemy core has always been the goal.
Adapting to change is a large chunk of the game.
…that’s why I think complaints about QM are just dumb. It’s an opportunity to learn to adapt better.

Thank you for removing this particular anomaly, I do think the changes to towers and the XP globes were a success. I rather like the whole idea of anomalies over large gameplay updates once a year.

It wasn’t a problem for me to adapt to those bigger changes, but to more casual players who may not log in very often gradual changes with anomalies I think was a nice balance.

Yes. And I tell you that is not how you produce software that performs.

Ferrari does not start their new car at the volume knob of the radio, but the drive train and suspension.

I know that some companies have a “sh*t-stack”-approach to development where they just pile stuff on top and pray it does not topple over (cough cough Boeing). That is however NOT how you achieve quality.

Same as with cars, you set goals first (for example: achieve 60FPS on i5-760 paired with HD6970 or GTX 480), then you work towards that. You don’t “just wing it” to end up squeezing another 5hp out of the lawnmower engine you stuck in your battle tank… (because that will take for ever).

I am on a R7 1700x + 5700XT, I can play UE4 games in 6400x1080 at >70FPS but Heroes at 2560x1080 struggles to maintain even 50FPS ?

I agree. I’m a bit sad that after the last anomaly they have planned there will be no more.

Probably CPU bottlenecks.
Due to the nature of how the game engine handles the CPU, it is limited by a single thead. Which makes loads of sense as when it was built, 1-2 cores was the norm. 4 cores was just coming into the top end.

I had to cap framerate with my old system (6600k stock (it was a gift) + 8GB RX 580) To 144Hz (monitor refresh rate) so it wouldn’t go above it during lulls in gameplay.

My current system, a 3700X (stock) and a 4GB RX580 (waiting on Navi 2) I cap the framerate again.

Although 100-120 is more my typical range in gameplay.

Sure thing buddy.
I’m sure the engine team decides to sabotage themselves.

They’re stopping introducing them every season, not stopping them altogether. They’ll just launch them when they feel they’re polished enough!

At least that is what I read from the Original Post.

Thanks for that, you’re right, I misread that!

This sums up how I feel. While I wasn’t a fan but I appreciated the sentiment. Also glad the devs listened they’re doing great IMO.

I am well aware of that as I tested arround to make sure it was not my system acting up.

2008 saw the first quad core.

I wish. I see 80-ish at the best of times.

I never said that. I just sait the engine is built the wrong way round.
Just like Windows has its Scheduler fall apart with >= 64 cpu-threads available or GTA V having stuttering issues when you hit 165 FPS, some software is just bad.

Yes, so a game engine starts in 2005ish makes plenty of sense to focus on signal threaded performance?

Especially when it did no target consoles.

i like the weather effects… it would be cool, if they return some day…

i am thankful for the heroes of the storm and all kinds of events. it cannot be compared with any other games.

the hots-team is doing an incredible job!

Add a map blacklist to quick-play

as a pure visual toggle that players can choose to turn on/off… I think they would be great!

Aww man, I thought the weather affects were fun! Yeah sometimes it created lag spikes but the interesting plays or situations made for some memorable games.
(Even when it was our team/me dying to something extreme-invisible garrosh was powerful and particularly effective.)
One thing not exactly addressed and possibly too “sneaky” for the average player to notice.
Is that the weather phenomenon gave hero’s some abilities that actually coincided with them in a organic way.

This could have been a multi-purpose event from hero tuning/changes with live data, future map development, Potential special effects added to current/new spells and abilities(aka testing current engine for growth), and so on… yeah I see you people. A new engine would be great but not always a solution to a game getting back into its paces.
I digress,
maybe too many conspiracy/game of thrones/murder mystery type shows have been watched as of late.
Anyways…
Great stuff Hero Team!!

Well, I would say QoL changes, alongside some fun filler as well. That’s what makes Heroes unique is the fun factor here. It’s not like one-map League who just focus on balancing around the ranked players. We never wanted that.

I’ve had recurring nightmares where Heroes does a 180 and gets rid of everything that makes this game special, brings in new management, etc. to lure in players. The players come en-masse and then we become the “old geezers” holding on to our “stupid/childish” desires for the game.

Lmao. Years go by with no innovation to the game.

You finally introduce something new and then remove it. Lol garbage company!
