R.I.P Downvotes (first ever Megathread)

Man, that “50 likes a day” limit is really kicking my butt in this thread. I hit the cap a LONG time ago (as opposed to the 3 “I Dislike” posts I made)

Ok, I admit. I chortled a little bit.

Why? That’s boring if everyone just agreed. I’d much rather have a contentious, rational discussion. =P

I mean, at least you can take comfort in knowing I will never show you hostility even if I staunchly disagree with you. Sooner or later that’s what most of the board will be filled with.

You have to choose wisely which posts you’re going to give your coveted like to. =P

The reason there’s a cap is so you can’t farm likes to elevate yourself to a higher Trust Level faster.

Is there a cap on Posts per day? I think capping posts would slow down “like farming” more than capping likes.

As far as I know, no, there isn’t unless Blizzard implemented one.

I haven’t seen the 60 second timer either, but the software has tools for dealing with spam so it’s probably not a big deal.

Good stuff Pool must be at least 20 characters Pool must be at least 20 characters

I’m going to miss downvoting mindless rant threads, but it is nice being able to see who upliked my posts.

:-1:

Stuff your 20 characters

I would downvote this thread if I had downvotes! :triumph:

Also these emotes are cool. :face_with_monocle:

I for one welcome this change. Mostly because of multiple accounts downvoting certain users for no reason other than their “history” on forum.

Without dislikes, I feel like every post weighs the same and has potential to change someone’s mind as opposed to negatively marked posts who even with one dislike made me approach their argument with negative mindset because someone else didn’t like it.

Also, now we know who upvoted what. Adds bit accountability and transparency. All in all, positive changes. I Like it!

This right here is going to be the nicest part of the change.

I’ve found that posts that get initially positive reactions tend to continue to accrue positive reactions, and the converse is true. Posts that get negative initial reactions, tend to just snowball more negative reactions.

If a post was changed from a -1 to a +1, the whole tone of the thread changed. I’ve been specifically watching for this in the last 3 months.

I’ve always felt that the merits of a post should stand on their own, and not based on how the community reacted to it. I welcome this change, it couldn’t have come sooner.

Not going to miss downvotes. Too many millenials abused the system for their own entitlement, believing that silencing people is the answer to everything.

Downvoting does not indicate anything. /hots on reddit still has still to learn to allow criticism.

The majority of the forum had a mindset based around the popularity of the posts which is not a bad thing, but once someones post that actually contained something valueable got disliked then people wouldnt look at it the same way. So yeah i agree, removing the cancerous dislike button increased the likelyhood of getting heard and at the same time increases the likelyhood of arguments rather than “i disagree”

Good riddance. It was just ignorant people who disliked what you wrote.

Getting rid of the downvote means more congested threads with expressed negativity as opposed to a thumbs down.

As long as they don’t take away our ability to block the more asinine posters I’m fine with it

No more downvotes is so sad :frowning:
Now I will no longer be able to see quickly who makes a lot of troll posts based on post history.

I honestly enjoy the removal. Not for doing troll posts, more because people have finally to join a conversation and have a discussion rather than just pushing a button if they want to tell someone if he agrees or not.

Nevermind the thumbs down! Get rid of the Like’s button! how can I properly stalk Hoku if she always know I’m liking on her post! D: What is this trash system!?

Sad and disappointed they removed it. Now I can’t just push a button to indicate that I disagree with someone. Not everyone has the time or is bothered to write out a whole reply explaining to someone why their stupid ideas or opinions are stupid. Interestingly you can upvote something but you cant down vote, just seems imbalanced.
