HotS won't save my hot keys, video settings, and the cinematic trailer players every time I open the game. Bug

full disclosure: i stole this from a Hots Reddit post by Final-Verdict. My situation is identical and i wish i could figure it out.

Scan and repair did not work.

Uninstalling and then reinstalling did not work.

Giving read/write/execute permissions to the bnet and hots folders did not work.

Turning my firewall off did not work.

Running the program as an administrator did not work.

If anyone can help me figure this out i would appreciate it.

Could try giving the .exe full control (not recommended).

For the current version, the “naked” exe lies here:

Drive:\<Installfolder>\Heroes of the Storm\Versions\Base80702

i did that and still nothing. i’ve tried everything i can think of and i’m just about ready to give up.

I’m having the exact same problem

I tried your suggestion, and unfortunately it has not worked either :frowning:

It’s almost as if the last patch introduced some problem with saving settings for some users.

FINALLY AFTER HOURS OF SEARCHING AND EXPERIMENTING (and no thanks to the silently useless tech support blues):

SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME

You have to disable your Windows 10 Controlled folder access.

I’d post the link from Windows Support, but I suppose these silent tech support blues just want us to stay safe from malicious links, even if it means we random players get screwed and ignored for long periods of time.

So just Google: “Allow a blocked app in Windows Security”, and follow the instructions under “Use controlled folder access”

Found this solution from a post 2 years ago. If the blues aren’t going to comment on this issue anymore because it was “LOLSOLVED”, then please sticky this somewhere, as it’s very annoying and tricky to solve unless you luck out and happened to find this post…

drkbef’s solution totally worked for me. It takes a bit of doing to finally get to the right spot in “controlled folder access”, but in the end it does allow you to select just the most recent HotS .exe in “Add an allowed app” instead of just toggling the entire controlled folder access off.

Thank goodness. That was driving me insane.

This particular issue was driving a lot of people insane. Props to drkbef :raised_hands:

Does anybody have a solution for this on Mac? I have tried all the conventional fixes and nothing has worked. It’s driving me absolutely insane not being able to figure it out! ha. Surely someone has found a fix on Mac, right? Thanks to anybody in advance!
