Hotkeys won’t save and cinematic trailer plays every time I open the game

When I logged in after the most recent patch, the Blizzard cinematic intro trailer plays as if I’m a new player. Then, my hotkeys don’t work. And when I go to change them, they don’t save. Any ideas besides reinstalling?

You’re not alone, I have the same problem. At time of posting this, there is another topic on this thread regarding the same issue, bit yours and theirs were 2 of the few ones without an answer on the page.

Can’t tell if they are trying to ignore a particularly weird problem?

Still no word on this issue?

I’m not able to enjoy HoTS without quick cast. :frowning:

I found a fix that appears to work for me, interested to hear if it worked for you too.

I have one question, do you have an antivirus installed on your PC?

Those tend to be problematic and reactionary when you save stuff.

For example, BitDefender antivirus will reject you from saving games like Skyrim until you allow Skyrim to do specific changes like writing a file.

Could it possibly be that your antivirus denying hots from writing your hotkey save file to your PC?

Awesome! Totally worked. You are a rockstar. Many thanks for sticking with it and figuring it out for the rest of us who couldn’t :grinning:

Thank you Sami,

I had thought my Anti-Virus (malwarebytes) or Window’s Defender were the issue. I uninstalled malwarebytes and added exceptions to every HOTS related EXE and folder I could find, but that didn’t work. Once I disabled the Controlled Folder Access, It worked immediately and I didn’t even have to restart the game.

I think Battlecat mentioned in another post that you can also set up exception for controlled folder access as well, but I haven’t tried that yet.

Thanks again, drkbef. You’re a lifesaver/gamesaver. (And to clarify, the “rockstar” status comment was for you … not that Sami isn’t also, but just wanted to clarify  :metal: :+1:.)

you are a legend, this worked for me on windows 11
