Hotkeys won’t save and cinematic trailer plays every time I open the game

When I logged in after the most recent patch, the Blizzard cinematic intro trailer plays as if I’m a new player. Then, my hotkeys don’t work. And when I go to change them, they don’t save. Any ideas besides reinstalling?

You’re not alone, I have the same problem. At time of posting this, there is another topic on this thread regarding the same issue, bit yours and theirs were 2 of the few ones without an answer on the page.

full disclosure: i stole this from a Hots Reddit post by Final-Verdict. My situation is identical and i wish i could figure it out. Scan and repair did not work. Uninstalling and then reinstalling did not work. Giving read/write/execute permissions to the bnet and hots folders did not work. Turning my firewall off did not work. Running the program as an administrator did not work. If anyone can help me figure this out i would appreciate it.

Can’t tell if they are trying to ignore a particularly weird problem?

FINALLY AFTER HOURS OF SEARCHING AND EXPERIMENTING (and no thanks to the silently useless tech support blues): SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME You have to disable your Windows 10 Controlled folder access. I’d post the link from Windows Support, but I suppose these silent tech support blues just want us to stay safe from malicious links, even if it means we random players get screwed and ignored for long periods of time. So just Google: “Allow a blocked app in Windows Security”, and follow the i…

I have one question, do you have an antivirus installed on your PC?

Those tend to be problematic and reactionary when you save stuff.

For example, BitDefender antivirus will reject you from saving games like Skyrim until you allow Skyrim to do specific changes like writing a file.

Could it possibly be that your antivirus denying hots from writing your hotkey save file to your PC?

Thank you Sami,

I had thought my Anti-Virus (malwarebytes) or Window’s Defender were the issue. I uninstalled malwarebytes and added exceptions to every HOTS related EXE and folder I could find, but that didn’t work. Once I disabled the Controlled Folder Access, It worked immediately and I didn’t even have to restart the game.

I think Battlecat mentioned in another post that you can also set up exception for controlled folder access as well, but I haven’t tried that yet.
