The point of such humor is either to be edgy or to cause shock. It’s a very base kind of comedy but just as consuming junk food, there’s quite a market for it. Think of it as the equivalent of fart jokes. Low and when you think about it fairly immature.
I might be considered middle aged by now and was active in an internet era where slurs were something I regularly encountered. It was considered a form of friendly banter. Imagine that.
Long story short, you don’t have to be racist or hateful to channel this sorts of humor. You don’t even have to be bigoted. The fact this word is socially unacceptable is exactly what makes it attractive for some to use.
I found it funny but I also understand why concerned people get offended, even the context of a video game and stuff is included in the bigger context of world’s history
So I wouldn’t do it
I see people use the sand variation of the word here, if my existance offends then it’s their issue, not mine, not even a sweat drops, but not everyone here has the same amount of thickness.
Personally I never understood why ppl are so offended by single words.
Sure, it’s something normally would be banned already, so that Cho’Gall should be banned as well.
But creativity and the unexpected are a source for jokes. This is funny imo. That word doesn’t represent the cruel history. It’s just a word.
I dunno how many of you raised children, but they only swear if they think they found “powerful words”. If no one gets shocked by what they say they stop using them.
A lot of the things ppl casually say nowadays were powerful curse words in the past. But they lost their power, their meaning changed and evolved.
This should be the case here and now as well, ppl belittling that word’s impact so the world can move on, but others rather get shocked and offended, stopping progression in my eyes.
If I’d be a part of the ethnicity in question, I wouldn’t care that kids, rednecks, jerks or some edgy teens/adults would use it and imo that should be the default approach.
I don’t think this is the right forum to discuss politics or even ethics, though.
If somebody feels like talking about this I’d recommend opening a new thread somewhere? I am sure there are people who are interested in this discussion but this subsection is about the game in general and I’d prefer to keep it that way.

Yeah, in this particular case it’s intentional.
Also in my mind they are fully subject to report for offensive names if they play like that.
The long term solution would be an algorythm that “autocorrects” Cho’Gall names or even drop this renaming idea and just add both hero names but the latter would be a very sad loss for a very stupid abuse.
Short term solution is of course that said players get punished and their name forcefully changed. It happened before for exactly similar reasons IIRC, it should happen again.
I feel that’d be rather punishing for an occasional issue and also confusing. There’s already the alternative to just display the names underneath each other for the hero and show the actual username of players on the scorescreen if you really want to axe this idea.
As for name abuses like these, report system should work fairly well. Also an autocorrect function to just to avoid accidents. It’d take a while to create and takes away the precious few resources the dev team has, though.
Even if i agreed on the crying about the word, i’d highly disagree on that. It would remove a fun part of the game for everyone because of some obvious trolls. Don’t make everyone pay because of some people intolerance over humor/stupidity or wathever you think it is.
This is a very bad way to fix things.
I think I didn’t went in details, if the combo-ed word result in something racial or vulgur, they can always swap the names from which they are taken from or just outright replace it with Chogall.
They don’t have to remove it entirely they can just use the filler chat database if anything.
Just because it was intentional doesn’t mean they weren’t joking.
Some little kids intentionally fart on each other, it’s still a joke.
If you don’t think it’s funny, that’s fine. I agree that this intentional creation of the cho’gall combo is against the CoC so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them banned.
