Dont’ let the Shareholder curse get you, take tumblr as an example. They took a (yes niche) but core part of the community out to please their shareholders, and it’s going to destroy their userbase. There’s no money to be made if no players are around.
First off Kaeo, this is more directed at Blizzard-Activation as a whole, so please don’t take this too personally. I’m a little upset that my favorite game is essentially getting canned by corporate, so please also excuse the tone.
I get that a CEO’s goal is short term gains for the stock and to hit quarterly targets. That’s how they get their bonuses. I also get that cutting unprofitable ventures is a quick way to do that. However I have to say this game (and Blizzard in general) made a terrible decision financially by forcing us into loot boxes.
When your customers are trying to hand you money for something, you don’t tell them to buy a loot box with a random chance for that thing, you take the money and give them the thing. Then you make more of that thing and they hand you more money. Both parties are happy.
Forcing people to gamble large sums of money is pretty scummy, and not allowing a la cart purchases is just bad. I am willing to buy that one gem only skin for my character for $5 to $10. I don’t need 3 tints of the same skin for $30. You took something that would have been a quick and easy transaction and made me buy a pack of things I don’t want to get the only thing I did. I resented that model every time I bought something from you, and you missed a lot of purchases because of it. The whole, the CEO/Company knows best thing is wrong. Your CUSTOMERS know what they want. You don’t have to trick your customers into buying things, you just have to offer them at a reasonable price, in a reasonable way.
In addition, killing the Pro scene is just short sighted. While many of us don’t watch the pros as much as you might like us to, a lot of us like to think if we get good enough maybe we can play in a competitive scene one day. It’s a pipe dream for 99% of us, but seeing people reach that goal gives us something to strive for in our own play. If you want this game to survive (and I’m not making any assumptions), you’re going to have to do something to revive the competitive scene.
I may not be the best player, but I have almost every hero in the game, own every blizzard game and have spent a fair bit on skins. I’ve been a life long customer of yours since the D1 days but lately I’m not sure if I trust Blizzard with my time and money.
End Rant
i am start this game at pre-alpha with alll of the bugs,
bad designs, unbalanced and fewer heroes and …
but im still play this. we all know that why
becaus if someone can create a best MOBA ever , thats blizzard
i remember the worst time of heroes and also remember how much they try to let us a better game
ik this days will pass and your fans support you
Vague is vague.
who cares anymore, it possibly couldn’t make the overall state of things any better or worse at this point, the real conspiracy here would be if the community wasn’t as mad as it is
if you don’t understand the context and the outrage, you are probably not as invested in this as the majority of the players
Not buying it. Best of luck keeping this game alive with no one playing it.
Me either. If they said something positive about Mei, I would’ve believed it.
mei-by someday…?
mei-by never
hey do u mind skipping the formalities and stuff and give us a very clear annoucement of what will u do now that HGC is done for ?like “hey , since HGC is not coming in 2019 we want to focus and put more effort on making and releasing new heroes as well as some changes in battlegrounds ,bugs etc etc”?this would work pretty well since we at least know what EXACTLY to expect, focusing us players doesnt tell me anything, like what u will give us candy?
He said in the post that they’re finalising plans and they’re eager to tell us about them when they’re done.
I know it’s hard to trust the devs at this point, but it sounds like they’re just as surprised and upset about what’s happened as we are
…they have less developers, EVERYTHING is going to slow down.
Slow down everything…?? Sounds like an easter egg for a new cold using hero that has been requested a lot!
I’ve never been one of those “Blizzard is failing!!” type of people. Until now. You’re letting everyone down. You failed MISERABLY with your diablo “announcement” at Blizzcon. And now this. So you can’t for some reason make your moba as good or better than League of Legends, therefore, you give up.
Shame. Massive, massive shame.
And just what do you think those plans are? New heroes? New events and skins? The same old crud they’ve been trying to have us believe for years?
NOTHING they can say or do can save them from the hole they dug. They severely screwed up way pass the point of the no return.
Honestly it feels nice to hear a personal voice from the team, rather than that corporate voice.
900 level game developer here. As a colleague, I totally understand all the clashes that can happen in such a large company with that many parties and investors involved. I hope you are not stressed out that much. If this had happened in the game I would write “ez guys, hold on and soak, just don’t die.”.
Time to time I notice so many brilliant things in the game that I believe, as an orphan child of Blizzard, with all the pressure lifted, you can now focus and bring the core gameplay to where it deserves. I’m aware it’s now level 20 and the boss can take down the core. Still I support you till where it goes. So, “GL HF”.
Are you some kind of troll?!?!?
You’re telling us how Tassadar needs nerfs but now saying he needs buffs!1!?!!!111IlIil11I!l1!!1!I1l
Sure is cool that a single character can prevent some dmg every 8 seconds, while also healing by aa, check everything around him, has almost the best wave clear , be invincible and unhunted because E, and can place walls what can’t be passed. Seems really fair. Yup. Not a complete joke that you think this is balanced at all. This is unfun to play with this hero and vs Dat one in one time
[obvious sarcasm is hopefully obvious]

This clearly was a pretty sudden decision, given Blizzcon has HGC 2019 in some slides/presentations/etc.
The HotS teams absolutely needs to communicate this happening better. Over a day from it hitting Blizzard’s main website for it to get a post on the forums from a member of HotS team? No posting of it in the HotS news?
But, This does feel very sudden. Going from HGC planned in 2019 to it being killed in just over a month of time.
I personally wanted to say a big thank you for this post.
The latest news really brought me down, I like this game and seeing all the changes brought by management made me feel betrayed and disappointed.
Just about 3 years ago I was dreaming of getting a dev position in hots team since I’m a developer myself and making games is what I’m really passionate about.
Now I just hope that the game will stay alive so I can enjoy it as a player.
May the force be with you during this difficult times.
Cheers mates!
So nothing new, the game istarts still on life support and the game is still going to be balanced for general play. They’re trying to sugar coat what they already said, don’t buy into it. The game is still going to degrade into a heaping mess.
[obvious sarcasm is hopefully obvious]
Considering the tune of everyone with the recent announcement, it’s really tough to know.
But thanks for pointing that out I was literally about to reply seriously.
The game will survive, more than ever needs our support!
I know it’s going to get even stronger in the community and with that help even more the game to grow!

It’s completely understandable to be upset about the news, no one is expecting people not to be sad/mad/worried/whatever. Just better to keep the reactions in the realm of reality rather than whipping out your tinfoil hat to try and make things seem worse than they actually are.
That clip was good for a laugh though, thanks for that at least.
I feel sorry for every developer and community manager that has to work under such bad conditions and has to bend over to the greedy-leadership department that you serve.
With the death of Heroes E-Sports you have killed the last thing that was keeping the game some sort of known for being alive. By turning it into maintenance-mode just like Diablo III the game could be more or less called dead.
I really feel like with the replacement of Mike and the removal of our favourite bald-head Dustin I have lost the very last contact to this company. I do play heroes from time to time but knowing that I play a game that just does not feel like a wanted game anymore is driving me off.
Time to support another company with my money so they can build a giant campus and get multiple bronze-statues as well.
