Im not playing the game myself, im not playing any other moba either.
But i wish for this community that this game wont die, eventho this here is the first sign of a dying game.
My favourite game called Paragon died and that did hurt more than i thought it would…
Unfortunately, most of the people commenting on this don’t understand what is truly the problem with Heroes. This community is just as toxic to new players as league of legends and Dota. I come back periodically and in QM, there is always an afk and always someone who thinks it is hgc. That is why the game is dying folks. Not blizzard making this decision.
I think OGN is afreeka, which is who did Heroes in Korea. Gold league was run by Netease, and ESL ran EU before HGC. Of the major regions its only NA that didn’t have an established league. Dreamhack, Net ease, and i think IEM have all done internationals.
That’s completely untrue. I mean, yeah, I am not going to deny that there’s a lot of pointless hatred on these forums. But, keep in mind that it was we who paid the devs, Blizzard’s bottom line, expenses. Every person who has an inventory on this game now essentially has a dead inventory, and ANYBODY, even a totally reasonable person will be furious at that.
Honestly, the worst part is, now I am thinking – what’s next? If they could destroy the Diablo franchise, and shortly after that, HOTS, what about the rest of the games? Starcraft and Starcraft 2? Overwatch? WoW even?
Look, I know there are people saying awful things, but we kinda are not in a collectively cheerful mood right now.
It’s less about individual heroes and more how the game changed when the focus became eSports spectacle. Time to kill used to be a lot longer. The double support Meta was a crutch that hid the new lethality of the game for a long time. When they took that away the game became a lot faster paced. Fights that used to go on for quite a while are now decided in seconds. This is what catering to the pro scene looks like because when you are watching something you want the flashy plays.
Because the person posting this is not the person(s) who wrote the announcement yesterday. Shockingly, Blizzard isn’t an amorphous blob. I get the feeling the developers got the shaft with that announcement yesterday as well - not just the players. This was an executive/corporate decision.
Considering the type of feedback that was listened to in the past was the same stuff that brought the XP changes, Chromie gutting, Stukov changes, ammo removal etc why would I expect that to change now that the pro scene is dead? You guys on the dev team may be sorry and all this and not to blame entirely but it doesn’t matter because you guys will do as Activision tells you to in regards to HoTS no matter what you come here and tell us. If they tell you to cancel it in 2019 after seeing the player count drop further and even more money loss from this you will.
2019 plans are being pulled back, I guess people shouldn’t expect matchmaking to be fixed any time soon. I am just so pissed off at all of this, not the dev team (kinda though because they continuously listened to the wrong people while making decisions for the game which got us to this point) but at Activision for ruining yet another game I loved.
Also, your team was already small and had been said in the past was a contributing factor to certain things, why attempt to string people along making it seem like things will be better going forward? Who’s going to feel compelled to spend anything on a game that could be shut down at any point now going forward? What new player is going to come in and take the time to learn a game that just received this kind of announcement? Hell a lot of my friends/my team are just talking about finding a new game to go to. If they go I have literally no reason to stay because the pro scene is gone which was a huge motivator to grind through all the bs to get noticed.
I may just be angry but all I see here is an attempt to alleviate concern so that HoTS can attempt to sell a bit more stuff before its gone.
Sorry I can’t share your optimism. The thing that worries me most about the recent announcement was the doubt it introduced to the product. I just can’t see the people who were willing to financially support the game continuing to do so to the same degree. Seems like a downward spiral, hope it’s not I still enjoy the game. Wait-and-see I guess.
If you are really sincere about this being a new opportunity to circle back and focus on the player experience, then first and foremost you need to appoint a community manager that actually reads and engages with the official HOTS forums. Some one that plays and understands the game, someone that plays solo queue Quickmatch and Hero League, who can read the feedback and determine which issues really are legitimate and which are simply fluff or venting. I only recently came back to the forums, but historically there has been one blue post/reply every 3-6 months, which is frankly astonishing considering how much more engagement is over on Reddit.
Over the years there has been a plethora of valid and legitimate feedback on these very forums that was never listened to or even acknowledged. And that is why the game is in the state it is today IMO. I also see this as a fresh opportunity for the game to escape the pressures of corporate growth targets and profit margins to create a wonderful and top-notch player experience and realize the potential that this great game has.
It’s called the “Mute” button. I feel that a part of the reason this game lost revenue is based on the harsh penalties given out for “toxic chat” reports. Blizzard should eliminate abusive chat report and let us self-police via the mute button. Then they can focus on the real threat to the game, which is players who intentionally AFK, die, and refuse to participate.
You aren’t wrong, a lot of people that actually put a lot of time into the game and cared about it got punished for that, I’ve seen my fair share of silenced people that play really well and you just sit there wondering why they are silenced. Meanwhile the real toxic people running around in games afking/leaving them/troll drafting and any number of things along those lines ran free.
I am sadened by this I cannot lie. This has been the only game I have played over the past 3 years. And I have spent around 80 days of my life for the most part enjoying this game.
Last years update was rough, it took around 6 months for the game to stabilize. And with the latest xp changes I thought it would be a repeat . But low and behold people are actually soaking, I mean. The fact that people addapted that quickly is a testiment for the work put in by the devs over the year. And I would argue it’s in the best state it’s been in, in a long long time. Blizzard, please keep the dream alive. Keep the passion, keep Hots at the forefront of MOBAS. This should only be the beginning.
this is kind of a tangent but its all a part of a bigger issue, namely the PC culture in America. Political Correctness has gone wild for some reason and its destroyed revenue in many different ways for many different things. Just look at football for example. ever since PC took over sports you see a marked loss in revenue for those same sports. and its now adversely affecting eSports and gaming in general.
Dude you are out of your mind with this conspiracy stuff. Ray Gresko was a producer on Diablo 3 and was LEAD PRODUCER on Overwatch. He’s been at Blizzard for a long, long time not working on mobile things. Here he is accepting the Game of the Year award for Overwatch.
