Why this game will never be great

I understand that RNG has been at the foundation of Hearthstone gameplay since inception, but being a player that has played since 2014, RNG has ramped up significantly over the years robbing players who have strategically good gameplay from wins due to dumb luck. I’m not talking about top decking either, that is a form of RNG that exists in any card came.

I’m talking about cards like mothership or any card that gives you random cards, in this case from another class, to provide your win condition. There is literally no critical thinking needed here. It’s just a lotto ticket.

I’m also not talking about OP cards or schemes like Terran starship, where you just play starport, click button, then click launch to win. You can at least play around that gameplay to an extent or have a time frame to gain a win condition before it’s too late.

The random card effects are just the worst, and really hold this game back from being great.

That problem is only true only if you don’t play many games in the same month (say at least 60 games). That’s because your bad luck today is your good luck tomorrow and generally randomness becomes a zero sum game given enough games.

I understand though it can be very frustrating because it’s extremely unclear to figure out who of the two opponents was actually better and not just luckier.

PS It also ruins enjoying watching a high level tournament, because you have no clue who is REALLY the Champion if they play so few games between them.

idk man rng and random effects are one of the minor problems if you ask me there are more pressing ones wich ruin the fun IMO

Imho losing to someones perfect luck/draws/discoveries is and should be a comfy feeling because it lets you know. In a game where actual skill matters, your only real opponent is something you cant interact with or affect.

Helplessness is hard to deal with. Hopefully that perspective can ease the burden.

discovery mechanic bloat is why I don’t play HS anymore. BGs at least isn’t riddled with stupidity… yet!

i personally hate this as well. I can understand drawing alot of cards. but facing a mage wich just keeps blasting you and all your minions in the face and their hand still staying full is just annoying. they basicly just get infinite cards out of nowhere. The only real answer to this is a steamcleaner. Wich is kind of insane theres only really one specific card to deal with this

Can be fun for a while, was fun for a while, but competitively it hurts so bad, both the average player and the pro scene. It’s more about how well you handle the pieces given than pure skill at this point.

Sadly Steamcleaner only hits the deck, not hand, and so far the only semi useful counter to discovery is the minion that makes cards that didn’t start in your opponent’s deck cost 3 more, it’s only semi useful because it can be easily dealt with

the reason is simple, what is the company that run this game? than look when was the last time the company did something balance, for the comunity, and with actual quality in the last 10 years in any of theyre games

Maybe we coud ask Trump to make this game great again?

That would kill it for sure

In my opinion , one of the original game designs keeping certain limits in check like mana gain, it seemed with the intent to keep the game slower per turn and without interaction on your opponent’s turn, these thing all went together in a great way. Certain things that are restricted to wild I think should be outright changed or deleted because they warp the entire game . But it is what it is

huh? There are tons of discover minions in BG, as well as the card you get when you golden a minion.

That is not the same mechanic at all… the only thing they share is the word discover XD

Discover is a problem. period.

Scrotie, is that you? You alive?

I doubt it because DOA’s posts are not 100 pages.

mcboogerballs? Or an actual person?
