Why not listen ? Mercenaries failing

Not sure where to even begin, I do know that I have washed my hands with world of warcraft… Then Blizzard came out with Mercenaries.

Mercenaries|
Mercenaries is a very fun game I thought… I invested money into it . I was enjoying it … but already starting to just sit back and wonder why is blizzard not listening to the community over issue within the game mode?.. It can be very fun… But no they come out with more lame mercs… You took the mysterious stranger out of the barrens … over load amount of useless coins… and yet… blizzard goes… HERE MORE MERCS… … SPEND… why ?

With sincerity … Why not listen to the player base in this mode ? You can see its dying… you can see nothing is really being upload online about it other than WHY people quit…

Just try fixing just those few things and that alone might save that mode…

Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy it… but my patients of those issue is slowly dying. like it did with wow …diablo…overwatch … lol heroes ← lol …anyways… I want to keep giving a huge part of my life a chance … so please just learn to listen and communicate and not just announce new mercs and not address issues within the mode people complain about.

“The mode is half finished and yet this person spent money on it. good job, ship another mercenary and make a bundle to buy it with some coins” - a mercenary’s dev after reading your post, probably

Oh nah they wouldnt do that they care about people… lol

Lol, I can’t imagine anyone spending money on that mode, let alone playing it. Sorry you had to learn this the hard way.

Don’t be sorry if OP learned their lesson. Be sorry for those who didn’t.

I went as far as maxing the basic aoe cores of Fire comp and grinding up to +1/5 on Alexstraza and then seeing new mercs released weekly, realizing that any current grind would never help grind future coins, and that with the carpet bombing methods, it’d take almost literal 100s-1000s of hours to regrind every new merc for every weekly release, that it was almost unsustainable to play the mode over just not caring about it, and knowing that future mercs could never be grinded retroactively.

When the xp halving and task attempts came, it was a clear message that the mode already on loose legs could have it’s future taken every time, you see this even with players who continue to stick to the mode.

The irony of the “P2W [Or spend 1000$s on stuff that won’t matter in a week, with no pack targeting]”, is the game seems almost designed as if to maximize the amount of money you can spend, but not designed to make it worthwhile, targeted, and a horrible value.

There are single bounties, but even with max fire comp and Xyrella Blademaster and all max rare mercs and diablo, i just couldn’t find myself caring about the mode.

Even high ranked players say that even if you do somehow P2W or grind to win. it’s a empty experience because the win rank chests will only reward you coins you have no use for, and the ques can be massively long.

Only for you to repeatably match into the same person over and over again. Who might even just concede right as soon as they see your name, knowing your comp beats theres, giving you no win credit.

Mercenaries is really a shallow experience past maybe a knockoff pokemon with wallet problems. If you play it casually or f2p you’ll be fine and you can enjoy the pve, but it’s not a game worth caring about the 2 people coinflipping in the competitive grindathon scene.

I wondered if it was just the game holding back or not, but i went back to some old 25 year old games and n64 and gb roms that fit on literal 100 kb for 5-20 hrs of gameplay 2d adventures like the Oracle of Seasons Link games, As well as some n64 and man.

It’s not unironic that someone from 20 years ago figured out how to fit 10x more gaming diversity into a file 1/10th the size of a card art jpeg and gameplay still had standards then, unless you compare it to a old pokemon game.

I just don’t feel like Mercs has done any meaningful gameplay development to a almost 20 year old concept, if anything, it has devolved and stagnated user accessibility under the name of making monetization increase. But it does that by offering a horrible value to both consumer and player.

You think Blizzard, liking it’s paid portion, would at least do something as simple as other gacha games and maybe just add in targeted pack seasons, or maybe like hourly targeted rotating banner systems like other gacha games where maybe for instance,

All legendary coins could be 1 of 2 options {Say, Rotating Diablo+Carine, Anduin + Vol’jin, etc}, and epic coins could be targeted. Rare coins could probably be left the same.

Or at least something like season packs, such as our main mode. Maybe something like Mercs Classic Packs for the whole pool, Mercs Deadmines Packs for the deadmine units, etc and so on to target the pool better.

The mode just has lots of problems that doesn’t reward you for playing it, and also is a money drain that can’t complete daily quests while still wanting more money

You might ask… Who is this rat race game with minimal gameplay and ridicolous grinds or $ asked investments for…

But there are people who love to be milked with their wallet, or others who just like to grindalot constantly while having their progress obsoleted weekly i guess…

I just don’t get what they were planning on with this mode really. It’s a huge flop. Denying otherwise is a Emperor’s new cloth’s story, telling the Emperor his robes are magnificent, 17 different colors, and the most incredible thing they’ve ever seen while they’re out there in a bathrobe turning red on the job.

Mercenaries are some of the most fun I’ve ever had in Hearthstone. I’ve even spent money on Mercenaries to enhance that fun.

Can’t tell if you’re joking/being sarcastic, or being genuine, lol.

I played 2 seasons to 14k in PVP, have all my mercs maxed beside 5 or 6 of the new ones and played this Mode everyday since Release.

With the current Event i feel like a Alpha tester without getting paid.

Its obviously there Was no propper QA testing at all. The whole Event is buggy as hell …

How can this be? And whats really disgusting is a ingame Shop with way overprized stuff. Turn the Shop off until its worth to buy stuff…otherwise it feels like blizzard is scamming his players.

So i got 100 unopened packs left and my last “test” for this Mode will be how return friendly it will be when i give it a New Chance in a few month where hopefully this Mode is bugfree, when theres a coin solution and when we got a better laddersystem.

Until then i am out of this mess.

Alleluia !!!

Only 3 posts and all in recent merc threads…you a New propaganda bot?

When Mercenaries was released I had an alternate account with a significant amount of gold saved up. I spent over 10k gold testing out the new mode, while giving what I thought was valuable feedback with an urgent message that changes needed to occur “ lightning quick” to give the mode a chance to thrive.

Changes did not come quickly and as I predicted I was burned out on the mode by December. At the end of the experience, I regretted that I had spent any time and resources testing out Mercenaries.

My early comments included:

1). The PVE sucked and much could be done to improve dungeon runs to make PVE much more fun.

2). The mode was way way too grindy.

3). Pack values were horrible, since they lacked duplicate protection and included cosmetics. Mercenaries packs provided the worst pack opening value and experience that I have ever encountered in a game.

4). PVP, like most of Hearthstone, suffered from major balance issues, which doomed PVP to feel very repetitive.

5). A build up of huge surpluses of unusable coins for maxed out mercenaries felt bad.

6). Mercenaries did not seem ready for release, which made it feel like players were duped into paying to alpha-test a new mode.

In summary, rushing a mode that was too rawly designed (and with very greedy marketing strategies) to market without being able implement improvements quickly has doomed Mercenaries into being a niche mode that feels more dead than alive.

I cannot imagine any way that Hearthstone could entice me to spend more time on the mode.
