Gotcha. I was confused because this is a thread about reporting people for violating the game’s rules. Unless I’ve missed something, nobody here is being rude.
I think we’re well within our rights to be mad at people who are botting. They take up our time with tedious games when we could be playing fun ones.
Personally, I don’t play ranked outside of quests so I’m happy to concede immediately. When I am playing ranked I’m also happy to take the free win. Rope bots don’t bother me in the slightest. But I can understand and empathize with people who aren’t as casual as I am and/or have less time to devote to playing boring matches.
assuming someone who ropes is automatically a bot i find rude. even with a “fast” deck i sometimes rope because i’m still learning the cards. that isn’t me being a bot or rude to someone i am trying to play one thing to see how it triggers something else. and i also mostly lose those things because i’m not trying to win. just trying to see what procs what, so to speak. lol. i did it for hunter for a while until i figured out how secrets work. and that’s usually a fast deck, for instance.
True. They could be humans sitting at their screen doing nothing but hero powering and roping for an entire game. That’s totally different than the example scorched gave of roping to think about moves.
Even if it was a person, they’re clearly NOT playing for real, and deserve to be reported. If enough players report a suspected user as a bot, Blizzard should investigate and possibly freeze the account.
Personally I suspect these bots farm ranked, get lots of cards, and then the accounts are sold for real cash, All of which is illegal.
is the issue you have that they’re not playing in a competitive way (ie just casting a heal on themselves) or that they are taking a long time in between turns? neither is actually against the rules. if it’s the former i understand, but if it’s the latter, i don’t. if you know they’re gonna do that it’s a free win and all you have to do is read the forums after you’ve attacked them a few times and it’ll go to fatigue and you can just tab back in to keep yourself from being logged out. it’s essentially a few free stars for reading the forums.
Neither. As Furry said in the first post, they literally do nothing but hit the hero power and rope. If this is a person being super boring then it’s “fine.”* If it’s a bot then it’s against the terms of use. The odds of it being a human who is intentionally boring themselves to death are pretty low.
For some definitions of fine. As in: not against any rules, but still pretty danged dull.
from what i’ve been piecing together from the forums… they seem to be afking to earn gold and tank their raiting. you obviously can’t win doing that. so it’s entirely to be able to buy more packs. and maybe they’ll reclimb before the season ends so they get their star bonus again? but to do that they have to noob stomp on the way up, right? if they’re cheating they should be punished, obviously.
I’m not even sure they care about rating. The people who would bot in ranked are likely to also be the people who are happy to have super low ratings to they can climb to their free cards faster. Or they just don’t play ranked much.
Heck, I don’t bot and am always glad to have a crappy ranked MMR.
This isn’t about ranking up competitively, it’s about farming wins based on people quitting out of boredom. Imagine going to chess competitions and the person just, never ended their first turn, running out the clock for half an hour… People may just quit because they don’t want to waste their time on such a match. That’s what’s happening here, but HS still gives them credit for winning. Right now there are likely hundreds of bots just, pretending to play, winning matches because people are too bored. It’s a cheap tactic and deserves to be stopped.
What are you talking about? The players are the ones suffering here, not Blizzard. In fact, allowing people to profit off the game probably makes HS more relevant since these bot owners have a stake in the game’s success, so Blizzard probably benefits in some way off these scammy tactics. I think we need the ability to report potential bots immediately, because no one is going to come to these servers to report every one they come across; the forums would be flooded with reports!
‘Easy’ is a subjective term. The fact that they’re sink sinkholes and that so many have gold profiles is evidence enough that they’re wasting people’s time and getting them to quit matches. I’ve played this game for years casually and don’t have a single gold profile, but random bots that do nothing but get other people to quit Do have gold profiles.
