They used to be ‘the good guys’, however, I believe they’ve turned into yet another little actiblizz somewhere before the release of Gwent, and The Witcher 3 was probably the last good thing they’ve done.
I used to play Gwent a lot (and reached a high level, too), having quit Hearthstone back in the day, and, despite some disadvantages, it was quite good in some ways, especially earlier in the open beta, namely that it was mostly about strategy and not wild random effects, among other things… It got worse, however, and ironically inherited some of the worse features from HS, as far as I can see. The release of Gwent (‘Homecoming’) was a disaster, some people thought that it was a side-project for CDPR, with their efforts focused on Cyberpunk, however… Apparently, they couldn’t take the success TW3 brought them and turned into a bloated nest of corporate parasites, which showed, by the way, even in how they started treating Gwent and its community… The release of Cyberbug was a disaster, even the investors were disappointed by CDPR’s stocks that have plummeted, as for Gwent… It’s been more and more sloppy with each update, less content for more money every time, reselling some old stuff in a paper-thin disguise as new and so on — in the end, I gave up on it and returned to Classic Hearthstone.
I’m writing this only to warn you: while they (CDPR) might have not reached that stage of ultimate greed and disregard for players just yet, I believe they’re on their way there — quite close, actually, so I wouldn’t keep my expectations high about them.
