Rewards Track Update

This post will be episodic as to were my feelings on this system as someone who basically lives under a rock when checking hearthstone news only catching trump either posting card nerfing/buffing and his card star reviews

whelp, at first i was like “okay interesting lets see were this goes” and i bought the battle pass because i thought the hero portraits looked neat and why not i should be able to do it playing the way i do popping in to do my 3 dailies and maybe mess around once a bit and ooo hey look weekly quests? oh cool thatll be something to do.

So i sink my teeth into this, alright having fun doing some quests and checking out the duels mode that released with it hey quest for packs yea lets roll was actually having a blast so much fun i forgot it was family game day where me and the family sit down and play a board game(im the game master so i gotta set it up,dont worry we still set it up the next day)

alright then the next slew of daily quests came in i was like “alright lets go and get this xp bread” trying to finish those weekly quests leftover after sinking my teeth in (still had to work when they dropped so i didnt finish) i noticed the re-roll button on a quests so i clicked it didnt notice it on the win 7 ranked because i didnt pay attention to it because hey when you play wild random spell mage things kinda just happen, anyway i replaced the play 10 old gods quest because as i remember i thought it said play 10 of the new ones i didnt read it again so mightve been any old god i thought it was a quest bug like when i got a quest to play DH before the release so i replaced it and got “get top 2 in battlegrounds” so i thought well crap not sure if i can do that guess ill play a BG for funsies and if i cant get there in a win ill re-roll it.

So next day i re-roll it and was it was “play 50 battlecry cards” so i was like yoooooo i love my elemental jade deck lets f***ing goooooo! so i bust that stuff out having a grand time and complete the weekly and the daily and was like…weird didnt get like any levels even after completing a weekly, then a thought comes into my mind, granted it was lingering before this but today it was like hey since they dont show me a track am i actually earning exp for playing games or do i have to win to get xp? so i do a couple tests and yes i do get exp but only like 48 per game then im actually questing if i like this system i mean yea it seems good like it did at first it felt like i was grabbing the goodies but kinda felt off also like to mention for times sake this is day was when weeklies were suppose to reset or i was to get new ones i didnt know at this point so i was experimenting to sate my curiosity, long story short i didnt get any new ones

So i move onto yesterday i check the results of my experiment and no new quests i thought since i didnt complete the last one on the reset it didnt give me new ones kinda baffled since neither expected results happened either all quests replaced or get quests filling out the empty slots not much playing do a quest kinda burnt out since i was doing them daily and with my total xp after the quest i was a smidgeon from the next level why not play a couple games get that level call it a day. Didnt play hearthstone today because ya know wanna let them dailies pile up, so i log on actually like 3 hours ago check my quests see the exp gain and then compare it to exp needed to get a level and doing the math even with an exp boost id still need 3 quests to get a level when compared to when i started it was about a level a quest with weeklies being round 2-3, so i thought “the heck? im only level 16 why do i need all 3 dailies to get literally one level and some change that ramp is terrible and this ramp is gonna get even worse” (my thoughts had a bit more coarser language but since i cant swear on forms you guys get the PG version), i was reluctant to buy this battle pass because ive been burned with this kind of crap before but thought “oh well i play enough hearthstone i can get this done” and then that was crushed when i saw the track and the current exp needed to get to level 17.

about an hour ago i check the forums i like to lurk when im bored see this post and you literally addressed nothing of my current concerns you were like “so yea we do agree getting packs at end bad so we let you choose what single pack you buy”, Great! but im only level 16 on this pass so that means nothing to the casual population because i assume literally none of the casuals are past level 20, no blizzard thats not the problem the problem is literally the exp ramp, “we’re gonna add seasonal events to get more exp” great but if it’s anything like past to go off of its probably gonna fall flat on its face with this new system you literally gave us nothing on how MUCH seasonal events will help. You also never addressed the problem of where the heck my weekly quests went? where are those? because thats as of right now 3 levels down the god damn toilet but soon to be a collective one level when i get to what level 23? and im low balling that guess and also apparently after reading was lucky to not get slapped with “get 4 arena wins on one go” because i literally only make it to 3 wins IF IM LUCKY because yea i realize my deck building skills are garbage its why i make gimmick decks so i can have fun. If this is the path hearthstone is going down im probably gonna end up quitting because i wont be able to keep up and i dont wanna end up having to shell out major money to craft cards i want to make fun gimmicks, i dont want to have to run to a mode i suck at (lets face it for me its all of them) to try and beat weekly quests and lord knows if you guys are gonna put these kind of objectives for daily quests. blizzard from what i read from this thread, the people dont want different rewards they want a less giant exp ramp to get them or at least better rewards because of the giant exp ramp. Please blizzard i’ve had so much fun with this game since it launched i dont want to abandon it, hell its literally the only game i use for your launcher dont destroy it with a crappy battle pass system that destroys rewards so people cant keep up with this games constant new additions and ever changing meta

The idea is generally all packs and tickets to the arena needs to be replaced with gold! Gold is the most flexible reward that a person can use at their own discretion! But it’s also about the experience system! Why not just make level 2 200 experience, level 3 300 experience, level 4 400 experience, and so on! By the 50th level, you can reach a plateau of 5000 experience and gain these 5000 points for additional levels! As a result, a person to reach the 50th level will need
127 400 experience which is also a lot but clearly less! And for the 150th level, you will still need a lot of experience, or more precisely, 627,400 experience!

Dear Ben Lee,

I’ve been playing Hearthstone from the start and amassed quite a good collection. This year I have pre-purchased 2 first big bundles and played a lot. The latest bundle I skipped, instead buying 100 packs with gold that I have saved over the year. In these 100 packs I’ve opened 3 legendaries and several epics. This is now just enough to netdeck some of the cheapest decks and play them into oblivion. My chances of trying new stuff and experimenting with own decks with the current state of the collection are exactly zero.
It really does puzzle me how did I end up in this sad spot after many years and lots of money invested in the game. It’s not fun.
I understand you want us to buy the bundles every single time to keep competitive. I also understand that it’s your game and you do whatever you want with it. Fair enough. But it’s my prerogative not to invest any more in that game. I’m done paying you.

Have a good day!

This is so disingenuous I actually had to log in to make a comment.

That’s what angers me the most. How stupid you think your playerbase is. How many lies and how much deceit is going into this.

How you’re carefully not giving out any numbers other than the sorry +750 gold over the course of four months. That’s 6.25 gold a day.

No it’s how you’re doing everything in your power to obscure the truth. To obscure just exactly how much XP you’re getting. How much value is has and how you KEEP LYING.

I’d respect it more if you just went out and said “You guys are getting too many cards, so we’re giving you less now so we can make more money”

I’d be like. Ok fair that’s your prerogative.

But this scummy weaseling snivelling hustle you’re doing? It disgusts me.

that 80 euro wont get you full value either, since there is more stuff released midway.

Either you open them halfway at two month later, or open now to be buy them again later.

Perfect deal…

…for blizzard.

paying 80 euro for some cards that are being added 3x a year.
There are AAA titels that cost less with years and years of development behind them.
Blizzard price tag on this game is just human greed.

Hearthstone does though ? If you want to play Hearthstone and have fun, it’s 500€ a year. You either buy Cyberpunk, or play Hearthstone, you can’t do both, unless you’re rich that is.

I’ve been playing the game for years and have spent money on this game and never complained about it. After seeing the new battle pass system that’s been implemented it honestly ruined the game for me and my friends. This system does nothing close to what you guys said it would, it’s extremely unrewarding and brings nothing better or positive to the game. Like I said before I’ve never complained please fix it or just bring back the old system. I’m currently having more fun playing Pokemon go because it doesn’t feel like it constantly trying to nickel and dime me. If this doesn’t change I know myself and others will have no problem uninstalling and moving on to other “free to play” games.

Hey Blizzard, I think a legitimate solution would be if the first daily quest would just up you by 1 tier for the pass from wherever you are. So it could be 3k for the daily quest and 3.5k for the weekly quest. That way players can achieve and reach the end of the pass in about 2 months of playing for 1-2 hours a day. It’s not too much that would turn off the casual player but it would be a good amount for even the streamer because there is an incentive. Once we reach the end, then every 3k is 60 gold just like how a daily reward used to be. It ends up being a perfect solution that everyone would be happy with. Also on the paid route, put 50 coins extra for every level up or something along those lines because it feels hollow to pay 20 bucks for ultimately some skins and a little experience. With battlegrounds you can make it that every win(1st place) gives you 3k, 2nd gives you 1500, 3rd gives you 750 and 4th gives you 500 so that as you play you can progress through the pass as well and the game would be rewarding those who dedicate the time to it with more items. The numbers can be played with for the battlegrounds but I think this idea could have some traction with the community. -GamR Rican

This update poses more questions than answers I’m afraid:

  1. Why do you think that it’s important for people to quickly catch up with the rest when they join late into an expansion? Surely these are very casual players who are not necessarily interested in competing head on with the people who started early.
  2. Why do you see event-based bonuses as an integral part of xp progression and gold collection? Surely this does not support the daily players whose experience is diminished between events? Maybe they are not even interested in such events and will see this as a pure grind…
  3. Why does your progression line look suspiciously like Candy Crush? Did you hire in Riccardo Zacconi as a consultant for this? (dear god, please say no…)

Just here to add another voice to the overall disappointment with the game and mainly with the new reward system. In my 5 years of playing this game I’ve never been more dissatisfied with how expensive the game is. Not just everything is overpriced, but these in-game rewards right now have no ways to compensate players appropriately. What worries me most is the mid-expansion miniset and upcoming holiday events (these are things I, the player can’t see, so Blizzard should communicate these). What I can see now is unacceptable and has to be balanced.

and immediatly a white knight or blizz employe has flagged the above truth
(or the system although there were no forbidden words in the text)

As I’ve discussed internally with friends and peers who also have played Hearthstone up to the current system, the simplest fix, is almost the astonishingly overlooked one.

Just give us the gold with the quest again.

It’s that simple, it’s almost hilariously so. I mean, sure, there’s plenty too, to add and tweak with EXP earned and everything else, but i’m not against this “New System” (No offense Blizzard, I love you, loved all your games, products, etc, but you always join bandwagons on their end/epilogue. If you thought of this first, boy how you’d be laughing at Fortnight, Dead By Daylight, Rocket League (as of recent) ).

This is the main oversight here, was removing the gold earned also for completing the quest. Bring that back, and I’d say you’d have a better experience here. Because then, at least how I see it, is “Player plays for Quest, Gains Exp for Progression, Also earns Gold for Packs” (So nothing has changed, only gained). “Player then feels more incentive to play”.

And yeah, the fact too we can only earn EXP by Dailies is a bit rough; (Or Achievements, sure). I may of missed an “This was our intention” somewhere (Or not your intention depending how it’s said), but I’m sure it’d also feel less “Oof” if I earned say, even 10 EXP (And that’s such a laughable amount) per game, or gained X Exp for my arena or Heroic Duels runs (Again, outside the achievements).

These are just our suggestions (My Colleagues and I). Our thoughts and ideas. Thanks still for the feedback and update, and be safe in the times we are in now.

You have to do better this game is too expensive I’ve been playing since the original Old Gods Set. With buying both preorder kits, and the battle pass and spending what gold I had I’m still missing 15 legendaries and some of the ones I got are unplayable. I can’t even enjoy the expansion because I can’t play with the cards I’m actually excited for.

meaning you dont care but need to douse the fire under your a** bcz you dont have any choice

a lot of people are critizicing blizzard on this thread
but only your post got flagged… so i guess there must be something wrong with how you worded yours

They took our daily gold guys, and replaced it with XP point, what a joke!

The overall problem with the rewards track system is exactly what people expected it to be, active players earning a substantially reduced amount of gold for their playtime (because let’s face it, especially with the exponential growth of exp per level and the pathetic amount of exp awarded per game, NOONE, not even the paying players are completing the 100 bonus levels)

Making players jump a chunk of the rewards track via “events” doesn’t fix this either. If you wanted to stay true to your original word to increase the amount of earned rewards for players of all activity levels, there’s a simple fix, bring back the 100 daily gold (3 wins for 10 gold).

If not, this is impossible not to be seen as a deliberate cutback on earnable rewards even for players who buy your entire expansion for 150$ (which is like… holy crap, a bad move considering the amount of legendaries you now put into each expansion)

This system, if left untouched, WILL harm the game’s player base. Newsflash, in the world’s economy of 2020 a lot less people will be willing to pay 250-500 bucks each expansion just to play with all the cards. 30% of US citizens are about to get evicted or foreclosed on in the next 3 months, and you just effectively introduced the largest price hike in the history of Hearthstone.

All i can do is urge you to reverse course.
