Rewards Track Update

At this point the main problem is not the players whining, it’s Activision freaking out in the office.

Tell them these things take time. Have them sit down and cool down while development looks into this. Also tell them to read the forums, at this point they know just as much as Blizzard.

I’ve never seen so many newly created posters post in a forum; feels cowardly to me rather than using original accounts.

Why are you assuming that one of the largest outrages in hearthstone history has not pushed people to post on the forum for the first time?

For some it has, I could be missing the mark for a few.

The forums here got reset a few years ago. But I could duel you with a Golden Geblin if you’d want to know how long I’ve played HS (minus ~6 months off last year).

So can u guys bring back the old rewards system? Who come with this idea anyway?

You sound like a ‘stop the count’ advocate who attributes those who disagree with them as illegitimate without evidence in the first place.

Thank you, but we want our 10 gold each 3 victories.

You guys are very late to the party. All of these issues are the same thing that happened when MTG Arena implemented their Mastery Pass over a year ago. It’s incredibly disappointing that Blizzard chose to follow the same predatory patterns that caused outrage with the MTG community.

Oh wait wrong game… still fits

7 jpg for 3 euros each, enjoy them!

This is one of the only comments I’ve EVER made on this forum. Do not be deceived though I’ve played Hearthstone since one of the first expansions.

I wanted to tell you @ Blizzard that I am SO disappointed with this battlepass system. When I first started playing Hearthstone you could access anything if you did your daily quests and saved up gold. It was so affordable and rewarding. Now you have to spend large amounts of money just to play the game. Gold dailies are removed. You were ALREADY stingy with the rewards. Now I feel like I’m being advertised to every time xp pops up or I open the pass. I absolutely hate it. I’m a bit of an older gamer that prefers single player experiences but Hearthstone was one of the exceptions. If this is the direction you are going to take I unfortunately won’t be able to play anymore :frowning:

@
VulGrim who asked “whose idea was this anyway”.

The reasons these things keep happening in games is because of a business strategy of “games as a service”. Behind the scenes what this philosophy looks like is monetizing as much as possible of gaming experience. Essentially instead of paying to play a game, the game is provided but you have to “pay to have fun”. This opens the door to monetizing an ever expanding plethora of experiences.

As a F2P game Hearhtstone was and always will have some elements of this business strategy but over the years they’ve double downed on it. From a book keeping perspective this seems wise as profits increase, but player experience decreases. Unfortunately, the latter is more difficult to quantify.

I’m going to sign off the forum now but this is fascinating stuff to research or be involved in. But as a customer it really sucks. I encourage you to examine single player experiences and not be afraid to jump ship if a game you are enjoying starts becoming aggressive about these practices.

Ok I lied last post. When I worked in customer service I got horrible reviews from all my customers until I corrected a certain mistake. You know what that mistake was? Talking formally, down to people, and not being real. This post, this response, is high level corporate speak that ultimately fails to take accountability and isn’t helpful, consoling, or truly empathetic. You don’t come across as a person. You need to be real when you speak, name what you did wrong (in this case you didn’t miscommunicate), set the proper expectation, give concrete examples of what are going to change, apologize (after all that), and share the plan going forward to address the problems.

I’m used to corporate speak so I wasn’t triggered but I notice some of your announcements are responded to well and others are not. That is literally one of the biggest reasons why.

The main gist of the problem, is you’re offering flat/linear rewards for exponentially increasing XP requirements. If you’re going to offer flat rewards then the XP per level shouldn’t ramp. Alternatively ramp the rewards. It should be going from 100G, 200G, 400G, 800G etc to compensate for the ramping XP levels. The XP for playing is abysmally slow as well, and should probably be turn based vs time based (so as not to encourage roping/bots).

The previous system wasn’t great, but at least it was linear effort for linear (small) rewards.

The mini expansion, while good for refreshing the meta is also inflationary for the player as we have yet again more demand for gold/dust when that launches.

This doesn’t need a bandaid fix…it needs a massive intervention to save the patient from bleeding out. Starting by doubling disenchant dust and/or halving the pity timers on pulling legends would be a good way for players to feel that their investment to have “fun” in the game vs endlessly grinding might be a good place to start…

Kudos to Blizzard for bringing union to the playerbase lol.

The sad reality of the fact is I would like to come back and play the actual game but the simple fact that you have multiple people saying how hard it to to get legendries and the fact that we are in a pandemic but yet you’re still trying to be extra greedy just shows that you don’t actually care about the community and only care about money. Seriously you’re on a fast track to becoming the next Fallout 76 when you try to milk the community for every cent instead of fostering a community that wants to come back every expansion. How about you skip a few iterations in the implementation process and actually listen to what the people are saying and not soft pitch some really meh ideas and see when the community is less annoyed as a time when you stop and wipe your hands clean of your community.

I don’t believe a word any designer says now, and it astonishes me that anyone would.

it’s not 1350 they are taking 6 packs out so it’s 1350 - 600(in old bad packs) so it’s only a gain of 750 thats terrible bro

I find “fun” to be very subjective. Someone losing a lot might argue the game is not fun.

I think it means they care. Kinna hard to miss though. What’s the alternative? Ignoring this?

The pass thing is not all bad. Considering the system in it’s current state, you do your quests daily, grind XP doing so. Assuming you get the pass, you get 10-15-20 XP boosts which seem relevant to the grind system.

It’s different, but i can see myself playing this. I mean it’s not like Heroes of The Storm they completely butchered.
