Quick Tips for Newbies: Road to Legend

I see why you facepalmed now, but its mainly due to the OP’s opening post being edited long after the start of the thread to reflect an entirely different thing than what they originally had said. Nowhere did they claim their priest deck was designed to lose on purpose in the opening post. now it does. so once they listed the deck and i gave it a shot, of course I’m dubious of their claim of over 100+ wins as priest using that deck…

Not my fault they came in claiming one can reach legend easily using their priest deck and just losing a bunch at the checkpoints… and then later they ammend the post to say otherwise.

It is my fault for falling for the troll tho.

3-4 matches of standard

10+ of Tavern Brawl (depends on the brawl)

probably about 50+ of FFA BGs
maybe about 20 Duos BGs

My statement of week’s worth of matches in a night is referring to standard.

What results are you expecting from playing only 3 to 4 matches? In the best-case scenario, if you go 4-0, you’ll gain just 4 Stars. And that’s your weekly average?

If you’re playing, say, 20 games a month, even if you won every single one, you wouldn’t climb significantly before the monthly rank reset. All you could hope for is a few Bonus Stars to make climbing a bit easier, but the quantity is still too small.

I’ll take the bait and act like I believe what’s happening here. I advise you to stop using terms like “hardstuck” so people don’t view your posts as trolling. By some definitions, you’re not even playing ranked if your normal dose is 3 to 4 games a week.

Well, thats a lot of standard for me. lol. your results might differ. Its not a fun or entertaining game mode for me as its highly one sided almost every time. Normally its only played for the quest completion I cant do via Tavern Brawl. I do wish to climb and get better… but its just so one sided every match it seems, at least with the Whizbang random decks I am able to climb as high as I have this month because some folk just auto bail when they see what my deck will be that round. Kinda like how if you see Priest in this week’s tavern brawl its auto bail and q again.

If your objective is to just hit legend and climb you play aggro. It’s not flashy and it’s not always the most fun but it is the most efficient way to do it and get it done quickly. Whenever i played in a meta i disliked i always played hunter on my climb because it’s fast and efficient and has a hero power that you just press to win games. Recently DK has become my go to aggro deck as it has a bit more flexibility but the principle is still the same.

I’m not sure that works in all metas. Did i work in the ~Badlands metas when the aggro paladins were wiped by the domination of the Reno Paladins?

But maybe you’re right and you had to find the non-countered aggro of that time because I never had all the cards.

Is this directed at me? Im not aware of what constitutes an aggro deck, i know its minion based. But I dont have a lot of charge minions but i do have some rush ones. its the limitation of classic that makes my limits on number of cards so little. I dont bother with wild anymore because its all solitaire there more so than standard.

I wish I could pull off the crazy stuff ive been seeing in the latest tavern brawl… warlocks destroying their whole decks by like turn 5 or 7 and being to lay down a full board of 8/8s. Aint nothing able to recover from that that early…

They mean very fast. It’s often minions but not necessarily. E.g. a shaman a couple of major patches ago was OTKing from hand in like round 4 or 5.

how?! I had a shaman deck and it was not capable of that lol

It’s that old Nature Shaman deck, with its 4 nerfed iterations xD

First there was Bioluminiscence Nature Shaman, until Bio got nerfed

Then you played Flash of lightning with OTK turn 4-5-6, which got slightly nerfed to prevent such fast OTK-s, but that got Flash and Crash of thunder nerfed

Then you played the Jive, Insect combo version, which also got hit (forgot how), and now it’s a forgotten deck played by 3 people in the world (2 on EU and 1 on NA xD)

I wish i understood anything you just said lol

quick tip for noobs: rank doesnt matter unless youre in the top 50 of all players

Unless you want those prizes that each level of the ranks reward you. I never knew that was a thing until recently… Now I can get at least a free rare or a rare and a pack each month. Thats like an extra 25% of my monthly packs I can earn. Even more if I can manage to climb higher. It was hard enough each season to get the card back most of the time, for others being able to reach legend isnt a meaningful test of their skill, for others its such a daunting and unforgiving grueling grind to climb out of bronze into silver. It is an objective way to measure skill progression, which for me, over the last 2 years I have improved from usually Bronze 10/9 to Bronze 1 SIlver 10… so a 10x improvement aint nothing. Might be to some but it aint to me.

monthly rewards are totally fine to grab, just dont let it make you mad at a fun game if you cant get the best rank

I think im fairly safe from that lol. I have modest goals with realistic timescales. If I can get to the next color tier further than I did last year I’ve made more than enough progress.

I aint got an Ash Ketchum mentality.

:musical_note: "I wanna be the very best that no one ever was… :musical_note:

Im not out there trying to reach legend in under 5 years.

I can have you reach legend in under 5 days. You just have to want it enough (which, I see, you don’t)

Setting realistic goals is handicapping yourself. As Norman Vincent Peale once said:

Shoot for the moon and even if you fail, you'll end up among the stars.

Words to live by.

you gonna buy all the missing rares epics and legendaries Id be missing?

Thats exactly what im doing tho. I believe someone somewhere said it better than I can.

We choose to go to the Moon... We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too

Thats precisely the inspiration and metaphorical goal I have in mind of getting to legend in under 5 years. Its wildly unrealistic and ambitious and I certainly face a lot of adversity and a steep steep steep learning curve on things I dont know that I dont know yet.

No need, I could probably hit legend with 30 random cards, lol

The thing is, noone has landed on the Moon yet at the moment of that speech, but many people have hit legend before in this game xD

So the comparison isn’t quite satisfying xD

You can be taught how to achieve your goal which could expedite the process thousands of times

Well i welcome the deck list and the training sessions cuz the last time I took a forumer on their decklist in good faith they did a 180 on me and edited their posts to convey a trolling deck instead designed to always lose… despite their claims of 100+ wins with it… so i’m unwilling to be so trusting anymore. Damn trolls.

However the moon speech is still a source of inspiration because I still havent landed on the moon/hit above gold let alone legend. I dont care that others have already, they arent relevant to me and my path to get there. I cant walk their path, I have to travel mine.

That means i cant just log into someone elses account to play their deck and have them in discord telling what to play when and how… because when its done I still didnt do anything. I didnt do it via my account, or my cards, or my choices, etc. ( doesnt mean Im against training sessions like that tho lol)
