What are some pros and cons of returning to Hearthstone after 3 years? Would it be more beneficial to wait until the next rotation just to have the smaller set of cards available in standard? Thoughts.
The rotation is not that far away. Waiting until then would have the benefit that it would be easier to collect cards and build decks for Standard.
Until then you could look for a cheap deck with a good winrate.
Unfortunately you decided to come back to the worst period of the game. Just wait till last years spastic card pool finally rotates.
The biggest ‘con’ of returning in general is wasting your time and neural cells, at the very least (possibly also money), and potentially getting stuck in the cycle of hope, hype and disappointment again — the one you apparently decided to escape three years ago for some reason.
The biggest ‘pro’ is saving a lot of the aforementioned and likely having a happier life in general as a result.
Oh, they’d also give you a free deck — you know how it goes…
Speaking of which, I might as well link this one (re that cycle), for example: Im so ready for 2025 core set - #19 by SparkyElf-2852 (see also other posts in that topic).
With that said, cards from that free deck will likely be more useful in Standard after a rotation, in addition to what you pointed out yourself.
Ultimately, of course, you’re your own man — make your own decisions, I just wish for your choices to be informed and for you not to harbour rather typical delusions about this game. If you think it’s fun to play it for a while and you know what you’re doing and why — go ahead, why not, I suppose, but if the game ‘plays you’ instead — it’s probably a good idea to discontinue (again)… or not even resume it in the first place and give in to the temptation. That’d be my suggestion.
Ye-e-e-e-ah… The topic I’ve just linked above covers that part, I think.
just dont. this is the worst the game has ever been.
That’s exactly what I was talking about: people have had this sentiment and been waiting for improvement for years, apparently, and so it goes on and on.
I’d really like for more players to realise this and then make their informed choices, as opposed to falling for this — yet again.
Its not so long ago that the game was in great state. Year of the hydra must be the second best year of hearthstone overall. That’s 2022. They really screwed with the consecutive overwhelming expansions and somehow didn’t manage to handle it the past 2 years time. Not promising that they basically were inactive for the past 2 years but the rotation will drown the sins and with a smaller card set it might be manageable for our small indie company.
Because of Mercs, perhaps? Although it was more of their last hurrah…
Otherwise, yeah, another year of ‘fixing’ Theotar with Patchwerk, Denathrius with Astalor and so on… Not so different from that Undertaker saga years ago, to be honest.
Oh, and expansions like UIS (arguably some of the worst of all time) were still active during that year and were still warping it, as far as I recall.
This might be the fallacy when things don’t look that bad in retrospection.
Spoiler: they were.
Oh, and one more thing: another reason why they don’t seem so bad is comparison. Things inevitable get progressively worse — I’ve explained why above, so yeah, in that sense, the past was not that bad compared to the new depths of depravity the game has plumbed. Here’s the trick, though: people have been expecting — in vain, of course — the game to improve or get back to (relatively) normal for years, and it has never happened — in fact, it is bound to get crazier and more ridiculous by design. So, here we come to that vicious cycle of hope, hype and disappointment again… And while you’re waiting and harbouring futile expectations, the game thus plays you.
Dont play BG until they balance beasts. It is basically whoever gets lucky if beasts is in the game. It is very frustrating.
With respect, I think the topic was about HS (and Standard in particular), not BGs.
I feel better knowing this. Thank you.
If you love solitaire and games that either last five turns or 20, come on back
I’ll explain it to you right away, you will return to a rigged game designed to take your time and money and in return give you only frustration and the clear sensation of being inside a rigged slot machine, are you ready?
My honest advice…don’t. I left the game 4 years ago as someone who used to get Legend every month and immensely enjoyed early HS. But around the time Demon Hunter was released when OTK decks were running rampant, I decided I was no longer having fun playing. So I left the game. Decided to return and see what state the game was in a few months ago…I have since left the game again in favor of MTG Arena.
It’s not OTK decks now ruining the experience. It’s uninteractive decks like Asteroid Shaman that were making it not fun. It’s cheating out massive minions way too early. It’s how every turn feels like a massive board swing going from a full board vs. empty board to a full board vs. empty board on the other side every turn. The decks I was having fun playing (Reno), they nerfed to the ground by making it so the only answer to Starship decks was made non-viable.
So at this point I don’t think I’ll ever come back. I just checked back today to see if anything had been nerfed with the decks that I was having the least fun against and saw that nope…nothing had changed.
So my advice…find another game more deserving of your time and save your sanity.
