Please disable use of emoticons during Battleground turns to prevent toxicity

Saying that people should learn to deal with social issues is not bad advice just because you don’t like it.

If someone was at your home, playing a game with you and/or other people and they suddenly told you that your lamps are ugly “get them out of the room”, the dog is annoying “Hide it from my sight”, someone’s voice is annoying “Don’t speak for the rest of the night”, would you want to invite them over again? That is if you don’t throw them out in the first place.

I’m not hateful though you do not have to please everyone. I don’t “want” anyone to leave. I would rather have fun with as many people as possible. But those that choose to find “fun” annoying have no place at my game table.

This explains nothing of the sort. There is no fun in clicking a squelch button. It’s a one time action that provides no interaction to anything at all.

It’s like eating dinner with nose plugs. Sure you get the same end goal of eating food but where is the enjoyment?

How are emotes fun? Seems more like a novelty. Do any of you guys ever just say hello and nothing else? This isn’t social, nor a chat function, it’s symbolism. Playing a player is not like playing a bot, whether you can see emotes or not. BGs is just a race against others playing a bot, anyway. Also, there is nothing you can get back out of using emotes except more emotes that are the same set. You will get no new response. It’s already pretty silencing, you can’t have an intellectual conversation through those emotes in BGs. IDK how you guys are equating the disabling of a set of symbols as censorship. It’s already censorship, there is no chat box. You can only say what the emotes say. If you think it’s fun an not distracting, you can have fun with everyone else who thinks so, too. The option for people who don’t think so would not hurt any of you guys and is just a preference to not cooperate with meaningless symbols that add nothing to the game but a distraction (for that particular person, not EVERYONE).

Pay to use stuff is pretty bad when people just disable it. If they are annoyed enough, then download a emote blocker on their own, because it is designed NOT to be disabled.

These are so different than a squelch added to a game.

One affects just you. Other ppl wouldnt even know you squelched them and we already have squelch in the normal game so the precedent is already there.

Your example affects everyone.

A better analogy to compare to adding squelch to BGs is if someone was at your home and asked if it was ok to turn the night light off while they use bathroom because they dint like it and then turn it on when they leave because this just affects the person asking. You would have no idea if they actually did it or not while using the bathroom. It doesnt affect you at all so why would you care?

Hope you understand now how strange it is for ppl to be against something that has 0% chance of affecting them. Nobody would have any idea they were even squelched just like in normal game.

I get what you are saying. I really do. The place I’m coming from is things outside of the core game.

Monopoly. Could you imagine sitting and playing monopoly without any other interaction other than the board play? How many different versions of it are there? Stay with me here.

Why do they exist? The game is the game and the rest is window dressing. At it’s core the game is actually boring, which is why people get upset at ropers.

So with that part out of the way. Put yourself in the shoes of the creative folks that put these little frills in place. What is being asked for is essentially my example from earlier. The lamp, dog and annoying sounds belong to them and they want people to enjoy them.

Core game emotes make sounds and that can cause issues for other people in the room with you. I get it and the function is there. BGs however do not have that problem.

Finally why do I care? As I’ve said many many times. I want to keep the creative minds focused on creating new fun things and not have to “silence” themselves because of a few harsh critics.

That post you just did poke is some of the dumbest crap I have ever witnessed. You dont want ppl to be able to squelch so designers dont feel bad there hard work programming stuff into game isnt used? Did I read that right? Are you effin kidding me. Hurry and delete your post before I quote it for posterity and the sheer epic stupidity of your post is saved forever. Edit: Too late.

WoW! The light has finally broken through the darkness that was clouding my judgments. You have shown me the way with the brilliance of your words and sharpness of mind.

btw: I edited a spelling error. Your 3 edits however show that you tend to reflect yourself into your opinion of others.

I edit all my posts like crazy rereading them for clarity, punctuation, spelling, and such. Means nothing. Ive done this for all my posts forever.

Then why call someone else out for edits? Just saying

When did I do this? 20 char

You’re right. I misread. You said delete. I do indeed delete posts when I feel like it. It’s a feature provided in the site, unlike squelching in BGs.

that’s not advice, telling people to not be upset isnt advice. also typically a stranger giving unsolicited advice to people with anger problems doesnt work. becuase of the anger problem…

this isnt your home, the forums are akin to a public park. if you dont want to hear people talk about improving the park. dont talk to them.

no it’s like eating dinner and telling the waiter you dont like cilantro. 1 person asking for no cilantro doesnt stop other guests from eating cilantro.

People paid, and they wanna use cartoon emotes which are simply not toxic and are just fun.
If they are annoyed enough to download a blocker, they will. The minority needs to change their unstable psychic emotions or they are basically telling devs to add even more bots. If they are just a little annoyance, it is never worth the devs’ attention of a billion dollar company.

I paid for them too and find them fun, and no, they’re not inherently toxic, but there are some out there that are using them in a toxic way and that is what I’m asking Blizzard to address.

Saying that “people should learn to deal with social issues” isn’t “telling people to not be upset” or saying “bruh just get over it”. You keep twisting and banalizing my words to make them what they are not. I use simple language that needs no translation, especially a bad one.

“also typically a stranger giving unsolicited advice to people with anger problems doesn’t work.” Your reply to my comment was also unsolicited and the way you are playing your part in this discussion won’t change my mind nor it will even lead to a healthy exchange of perspectives, yet you made it, no?

“becuase of the anger problem…” Our anger problems (or any other) are our responsibility, not of the rest of the world. It’s ridiculous to expect that everyone else panders to our mental issues all while we are avoiding dealing with the root of it ourselves. There was the squelch crusade then auto squelch. Now there is BG emotes crusade and not just that but some of those people that are finding emotes offensive would like to report players using said emotes and see them punished in some way. They are that far down the rabbit hole. It’s never enough and it won’t make the game any better.

yes they are. neither of those statements add tangible help…

do you have anger problems?

this is an argument for mass squelch not against it. right now blizzard is pandering to people who want emotes, for no other reason then they want them.

do you think reckfull would have not killed himself if someone told him to " deal with social issues" do you think that is the problem with america right now. no one is telling to people to “deal with social issues”?
