As the title says.
I’m sick and tired of juvenile, toxic players spamming the murloc wave emote at me as they’re knocking me out of a Battlegrounds.
Played multiple Battlegrounds tonight and it happened every single Battleground. It’s getting beyond ridiculous now.
At the very least allow us to report players for in-game toxicity as well as emote spam.

Wait, that’s a Murloc waving? I thought it was a generic fish.
Why disable use when you could remove the emoticons altogether? Nobody uses them for what they mean anyway. I think there is no point for them to be there. I, myself, never use them as I am focused on playing the match, lol. But, maybe Blizzard keeps them there because they understand that some people are lowly and need an ego boost, and many of their players need to have the emoticons to feel good while playing the game. They wouldn’t want to drive their players away, ya know?

Yes allow people to report players for using the vague emotes the devs put into the game, that’s a great idea.
For emotes in the normal game I get why people want auto-squelch since they take up space on the screen and have the characters talk if your sound is on, but the Battlegrounds ones are silent, small, off to the side, and shown to all players in the lobby.
If you seriously have an issue with people using emotes in a game, you’re the one with a problem.

I don’t mind, personally. If you like using phrases that you don’t write yourself, that’s cool.
I just want to put this out there… You don’t know what they were trying to convey. Maybe they just wanted you to wave back as a sign of “good game” or “sorry that crappy RNG just happened” or maybe just maybe… they were playing with the function to amuse themselves…
The only meaning behind the images is what we attached to it. That means if we perceive it as a negative then chances are it’s because we were already negative in the first place. Smile and laugh it off. It’s a game and there are no prizes in BGs

I agree with leaving the emoticons. Since, as you noted, the only person who knows the meaning when the emoticon is used is the person using it, I guess Blizzard already has this topic covered with the squelch feature. Both sides of this argument already have what they want. If you don’t like emotes, squelch. The other player can have emote fun by themselves and even still think that the opponent can see them. The squelcher can assume the opponent is respectfully playing against them without judgement.
But sometimes it’s easy to forget to squelch at the start and it’s a distraction to see one unexpectedly. I do think an auto-squelch feature in the settings could be useful and of no harm to the game.

Wow. I’m sure they had no idea people would press the buttons!
you cant squelch in BG.
Its a reasonable request imo. Its in standard so why not in BG? The same arguments that go for standard having it would also go for BG no?

They might as well already be squelched with how out of the way and ignorable they are, combined with a literal paywall to even access them.

Squelch should be added to BG.
Murlocs obviously are going to be nerfed gain sometime soon. They are the Tim Tebow of BGs. All they do is win.
Heck with that, I want chat so I can curse the hell out of the other players, especially when they are elite.
No idea you can do emotes in this.
If I was to guess it would be that the triple and tavern level icons share the same functionality as the emotes. If you block the emotes you would likely have to block the game indicators.
I read people talking about how simple things are when in reality it could mean a complete rework of dependencies or creation of new layers that add potential issues across various OS platforms.
It’s really an innocent game function. Asking to block the fun just tells the devs to stop adding fun in the first place. Please stop trying to cancel all the fun stuff in the world.

As if your complaint is at all legitimate. Get over the emotes dude. They’re not going anywhere.

how is wanting the emotes squelched not legitimate?

Because, and this feels like the ninth time I’ve said it, the emotes are off to the side, come with no audio, are in a small bubble, and you need to pay/spend gold to even get them. And if these bother people so much, you might as well mute tavern up notifications and triple notifications, because anything that isn’t related to the board is a distraction of such magnitude that it needs to be removed or have an option to remove it.
