The Monkees were pretty underrated imho.
Some of the songs they did are so well known, even today,
(and they had the Wrecking Crew for a band, lol)

I love that song.
But they are indeed somewhat frowned upon by many “connoisseurs” of that music era. Beeing seen as a manufactured and artificial knock off of the beatles.
In that light i do agree that they are a bit underrated. They are quiet good.
They are not my favorit though and besides this song i dont really know any other song from them , though i guess i will remember when i hear one.
one of my favorites from them.

(I’m Not Your) Stepping Stone is my favorite Monkees’ song, and it’s the only one that I keep on playlists.
The story I once heard was that Micky ended up singing and recording the song, because the other Monkees were busy filming the television show that day:
“ Monkees drummer Micky Dolenz sang lead, and was the only Monkee to perform on the song. In their early years, The Monkees songs were usually recorded by top session musicians. The Monkees had a popular TV show where their songs (including this one) aired, which helped them climb the charts.”
For the most part, The Momkes sound was distinct from The Beetles, and two other well know songs by them were I’m A Believer and the Monkees Theme Song.
yeah:) I’m a big Wrecking Crew fan as well as Funk Brothers and Muscle Shoals rhythm section, Nashville A Team, etc.
Some of the best musicians ever were session men:)
Pop: Alt Z:
New to me, but I really like it:)
Hope you don’t mind if I borrow it for my nightly music blog?
(promise to give you a shout-out!)
here’s a guy I love:

No problemo, I am glad you liked it. I enjoy sharing music from a diversity of time periods or genres in the hope that I help introduce something new to others for which they are happy about discovering.
I have recently been working on some Alt Z playlists, which started with the tag (Alt Z) that Spotify used to group certain kinds of pop music.
I read somewhere that through this process, Spotify created about 5000 new genres, which is a ridiculous number, but I am sure that when AI gets involved in cataloguing music, music genres will greatly increase even more.
Personally, I am breaking Alt Z pop into three categories:
1). Love Games: Alt Z songs about attraction, being in love, or pursuing love or sex.
2). Love Angst: Alt Z songs dealing break ups or relationship issues.
3). Dark Alt Z, which tends to include some mild Dark Pop content, like danger, monsters, stalking, nightmares, horror, etc.:
A cover, but I like it better than Robyn.

Tonight I think long and hard about my first song to play. Long and hard about what emotion I want to channel tonight. Make no mistake, this first song will dictate the direction of my music for the next few hours and my night tonight.
I have played 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and into the beyond we are in but tonight, for tonight ladies and germs I want something truly… special.
Of the two most favorite and “special” songs I can think of (in my current state of drunkenness’) one was already played and I am past that so let us go to the second.
From a children’s book written over a hundred years ago to plays, movies and songs countless… Here we go. (One of the hundreds of versions, I know Jefferson did it and so many more but this is my particular version)
