Orb Big Spell Mage

Lowrolls will happen on any deck, you know xD

I have yet to win a single game vs Reno druid.

I got close many times, getting them to single digits early game, but once they stabalize lordly, does the rest of the game suck. 0 percent winrate vs reno druid, anyone posting higher numbers than that? i’ve probably played 10s of them, thats like 0-20 or something vs Reno druid.

Any pointers on how to beat Reno druid as BSM? The one card I haven’t tried is the mage titan, perhaps he is necessary to get the burst from hand. Basically they have so many ways to deal with the heavy boards you create. They can

  1. Reno.
  2. Zillax → hydration station
  3. they ramp to 9 mana (I think) and then drop the dude that summons three huge minions for 3 different sets creating a massive board you can’t deal with
  4. drop eonar
  5. drop yogg to hysteria your board

all of these are basically tempo stopping, and you have to switch to value, then they just destroy you in the value game.

I had one game that went into late endgame, I stored 2x conman so I could triple up on orb. And I still lost.

I’m going to check VS and donkey for stats they post.

One card = two words = Flesh Curse

gg wp.

Oh nevermind.

Maybe in the future when Mage gets a Warlock tourist xD

If you mean the default popular BSM deck, you can’t win against those cards unless they misplay/concede in most cases.

Those are very late game cards in this context; you play a very fast deck; i.e. you must win before they have ~9-10 mana.

What in the hells is flesh curse looking up card.

Also, not clear why I bother playing BSM, pain lock is clearly superior…

Mb, as usual, I forgot the exact name of the card, here it is:

https://www.hearthpwn.com/cards/1994264-curse-of-flesh

Curse of flesh - 1 mana spell which you absolutely must not play turn 1 xDD

I put one copy of it the other day when Druids got me tilting to deal with the games where they survive with 1 hp, heal back and win

Now when you see you’re couple of dmg off lethal (anywhere from 1 to 10), you just play this and watch them concede in frustration - no more zilliax, no more eonars, just concede.

The deck went 7-0 against druids before I had to stop playing it because it was losing everything else xD

Hallelujah xD

This is definitely one of the most frustrating matchups.

It mostly comes down to hoping they don’t high roll on Marin (which is obnoxious because they can do it in like, four ways). There’s a few things I’ve found to keep this matchup from being absolutely awful:

1st, an early norgannon (axe the Griftah if seeing lots of Reno druid or the mirror) can mess their curve up badly with an emergency kill target that they often can not actually emergency kill. Turn 4 Norg, turn 5 Conman is very awkward for them to deal with.

2nd: if pressuring with mid game tsunamis, when you suspect Reno is about to happen, prepping sunset volley gives you your general best option in response to that clear

3rd: if you can manage to get to the late game, your finisher tends to be orb + Conman. If that orb is fully stacked, they often can’t survive it.

But yeah… It’s mostly just praying they don’t get to do a good Marin play.

Do you have a deck code of what the current version looks like after the changes and tweaks here and there?

This is what I have currently settled on. Not sure if it’s perfect, but the card choices mostly seem correct based on play experiences with them.

Thank you very much. Days ago I started with the Kalecgos version and I won some games with it but your version looks interesting.

I followed the rather heated Surfalopod/Under the Sea discussion and now im curious to try this.

It’s not just Marin. That deck is mainly a duality of being mediocre before it gets mana and explosively good when it gets mana; it might not have Marin and drop an Eonar and then a Zilliax; most board based opponents can’t even handle that if they don’t have late-game cards.

If I’m a fast or mid-way deck I’d just play “recklessly” in the hope I high roll any curve possible before they go ~10 mana and the eonars start spamming cards.

Yeah, that’s kind of the norgannon line. That deck is pretty much a hope they have an awkward turn or two.

And they often do. The weakest part of the dragon druids is to not get their …dragons in a good curve. If they manage to have mana in the end: they more or less just spam cards and it works anyway (within reason).

This is why when I first hit legend I played Reno Druid and farmed all the BSM players.

If the Druid is a good player, it’s extremely hard to win. As a Mage, you have to highroll early as possible and the Druid has to not highroll Marin which is asking a lot.

It’s an interesting deck but it doesn’t work with my matchups and my luck at drawing cards.

I won some games but lost most of them. “Greedy Partner” is a death card most of the time. I just don’t draw or discover 2 mana cards and can’t make use of the card in this version.

Either I have Coins in my hand but no high cost spells to switch them with or I have nothing I can use to either switch the costs or reduce them like with “Sea Shill” so I can play “Norgannon” or something else.

I desperately need these cards mentioned above but I then draw “Sleet Skater” 2 turns in a row.

I see the potential and power of this deck but I need to switch back to a different version. Or try to build my own version.

But I had a funny matchup. Another BSM had “Under the Sea” in the deck and then used it to draw a “Primordial Glyph”. A rather costly play.

Yeah… it can be suicidal to try to combine the two styles of big spell mage.

Sorry to hear you got stuck in a low roll streak.

I had the same issues. Thus, my version is slightly different and has resolved that issue. I won’t be online for another 2 days so I can’t link you the version but smeet has it.

I only run 1 skater, infinitize, 2 shills and 1 location. Cut the zilli and the zeph.

Not sure you did it the most optimal way. The best farmers were other fast decks. It was even other SLOWER fast decks; they are less clunky even if they’re slower; I was surprised pirate DH was good because I thought it’s clunky but I guess less so.

I can endorse the skater for Infinitize as an added 2 cost and flexibility.

I don’t think I’d cut the Zill. It has been way too useful vs pirate DH

And Zeph has been good too.

This was immediately after the release of skyla, 2nd day. I wanted to see if I could expose the weakness of bsm using 4 health minions and then ramping. Worked very well. I already knew aggro was good against it, I wanted to test my theory on Reno druid because my climb to legend with BSM showed me the Reno druid match as being harder than expected.
