Need a bit of guidance starting out?

Hello first-timers, and welcome to the forums!

Update: 20.0.2 releases tomarrow!

Until the update get used to playing against “Mages”, and “Paladins”. Don’t let this peculiarly get to you as this be fixed SOON .

  • To all current forum members, if I have left something out, or if this little guide is, well… lousy, please point it out to me and I’ll include the info in an EDIT, or get rid of it all together. I’m just trying to be active in the community.

Manilla here… Fledgling newb with a small bit of experience. I want to try my hand at helping out here on the forums rather than trolling amongst the masses. Here’s a tad of advice…

First off…
Patience. You are entering into the game at a time when Hearthstone has seen its biggest changes since the first year of the games release back in 2014.

Here is a good place to start out with learning a lot about the game, the cards, rules and advanced rules for those who want a solid starting point in learning the game.

Also, “Don’t hesitate to ask a question on the forums”…

Some helpful forum user’s that I have come across since joining…

@KingofHeaven - Very helpful, and will sometimes go out of his way to help.
@Ginger - Ginger is a very active user, and can be found most anywhere here in the forums, usually one of the first to actively help.
@Wardrum - Big into offering info on game data, and numbers analysis.
@Jonius - Another forum user that has made some helpful guides that are worth checking out. They can be found here…

There are others of course, and many to which I haven’t listed, just ask the right questions and you’ll find them.

POINTS OF ADVICE:

  • Try to keep to the starting decks, experiment with playing all the classes - leveling up each class will reward new cards. Get a “feel” for how each class plays.

  • Once you have completed apprenticeship (starts you off at 40 and as you win games until your at 1, win again than your at bronze 10, apprenticeship is complete), you’ll be awarded a pre-built deck from a class of your choice.

  • Once you have gained some time playing your pre-built deck (known as “Piloting a deck”), you can create your own deck…
“However, while making your own deck can feel rewarding if successful… Your better off looking up a built deck online (netdeck), don’t let anyone tell you it’s bad to netdeck!”

  • Deck Websites, and info resources -

  • Analysis data -

NOTE: It can be alittle daunting at first getting to know the cards, and going through your collection of recently introduced “Core”… (you actually have a better assortment of starting cards than what was available in earlier versions). There will be a major update coming to the game soon to begin balancing the major changes introduced with “Forged In The Barrens” expansion!!!

  • Until the update get used to playing against “Mages”, and “Paladins”. Don’t let this peculiarly get to you as this be fixed SOON.

  • "MOST IMPORTANTLY - "
Don’t expect to win a game all the time. Losing is to be expected, and it’s best to learn from your losses by becoming aware of how, and why you lost… Becoming more experienced at piloting decks. (Ex. Your chosen class lost against a class that has “better strategies, card resources, to win against the class you lost with”)
“The metagame is the mix of different decks that players bring onto the ladder, that you can expect to see. If you know what decks players are bringing, your deck can be especially good against ‘the meta’.” - [Ben Brode]

The metagame or meta describes the trends of [deck] choices currently seen in [Hearthstone].

“I’ll be editing this topic in the future to hopefully make it a better guide.”

Thank you for the tips. I just started playing a couple of weeks before the expansion and there is a lot to take in.
