given that i have climbed to legend from the scratch on a f2p account i can assure you that its possible if you spend your gold and dust wisely

It depends a lot when you’ve started playing… As a new player it’ll be very difficult only to collect enough dust to build a deck that can compete, then to spend it on cards you’ve not tested before in your deck is just as hard

Unless you look up one of the many “budget deck to legend” guides that pop up every expansion.

I will not deny that it is much more difficult and time consuming to grind as a FTP player, however that is the idea.
We can’t exactly expect the same progression as someone willing to buy packs and get access to more decks than us right? We can dust whatever we aren’t using and craft the OP deck of the day. POOF legend. In a day…
If you don’t have enough cards then start a new account and get the free deck.
I just did it today and have stayed F2P for more than 5 years and the game is currently more newbie player friendly as of rewards and ease to build a legend capable deck

I am sorta F2P, only bought Naxxramas adventure so far, and I have made Gold in both Standard and Wild. That requires wins. I also managed a 5-3 once in Arena.

well this account is few months out and i have 2x classes highlander decks on top of that i have few other decks fully optimized.
I’m 100% free to play and last month finished top 387 in NA and top 1.8k in EU
So yeah its impossible for free to play player to win a game. They cant make it out of bronze 10

I’ve been miserably dragging my feet through, mages, priests and demon hunters in ranked non stop. I’ve actually taken the loss, just to be playing.
I finally stitch to casual, a Shaman auto concedes to my face. Probably screwing with my MMR.

After everything i put up with… I play a damn Classic Hunter deck. Premade deck with basic and classic cards. The priest took a dive or something. I won.
It doesn’t matter, the player skills, the “fun” factor. What actually matters is rigid automated rules about how you are expected to play,
Why put up with anything? You’re making it sound like the game is a chore to you, which is a good indicator that you should be playing something else.
I have been grinding for 500 wins on Rogue. It was initially my highest win character. “Playing something else” might involve another cheesy class, like mage or something.
I have always hated Mage. Demon hunter is a close second.
I’ve hit Legend as a completely f2p after a year of playing using two budget meta decks and after that hit rank 5 (old system) many times. Sure it took some time, patience and smart use of resources, but it was doable. Many streamers have also hit legend on brand new accounts. Now it’s even easier since new players get a free meta deck if I’m correct.
I also can’t say that the game is somehow rigged against non-paying players because overall I feel I have very good luck in Hearthstone - good RNG effects, often topdecking the right answers and having the right cards on the right turns.
