Is it any fun to play without paying?

Figured i would stop playing ranked, have fun in unranked or whatever it’s called.

Playing a classic deck, getting destroyed every other game.

Can’t say i’m enjoying myself.

You can craft non-Classic decks that perform OK without paying. Have you looked up budget lists in places like Hearthpwn or Hearthstone Top Decks?

have you tried wild? casual is just unranked; people are testing out ranked decks before taking them officially on ladder. i don’t even play casual any more to test out tech i just hop onto ranked since the rewards are so much better win or lose.

oh agreed with madmax, definitely look up hsreplay and find some decks you can craft and will get you deep into Silver at least even with just Classic cards.

I was led to believe that if you don’t play a “flavor of the month” deck, you’re not doing yourself a favor.

I had a bit of dust and i was getting cards from the quests. Semi made a suggested deck from the “new deck” window.

I think it did go better. But there’s nothing except Priest/Mage/Demon Hunter. The non-overpowered classes don’t stand a chance.

-Blizzard: At least you have 3 nice class to play with…

All classes will never be equally balanced but it does seem that Blizz tries to rotate the power of classes as they release patches. It is hard picking a class to invest in without playing it, which is where watching some HS tournaments or checking out tempostorm or Hsreplay may help. It takes some humility, but If you get run over by a deck, add them as a friend and spectate/ ask for tips.

No it isn’t.

Just make any deck you like

Not really , i always craft my own decks and climbing to high Legend with them.
You just need patience.
on this account i’m playing from 2-3 months and i’m 100% free to play.
and im having high dust cost decks like highlander rogue , mage , hunter etc…

The thing you can do is build a super cheap aggro hunter deck and spam casual games for 1-2 weeks.
if you are not good in arena , invest them in packs. If you are good in arena invest them in arena. You will get tons of cards like that in around a month

HSReplay is not a good place to look for decks to just “full craft” if you have limited resources/F2P. Even though I use HSReplay a lot to check meta builds, that’s because I have most of the cards besides some legendaries which I actively try to avoid crafting, and substitute.

So, on Hearthpwn you can find budget builds to give yourself a better idea of what makes a deck work. You can also check out https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/hearthstone-budget-cheap-decks/ to see what sort of budget decks could work.

Also Old Guardian is a content creator that focuses on finding budget builds that are Legend-worthy:

Sometimes, exact builds won’t quite work out for you, so it helps to change some cards to ones you may find more suitable - unfortunately, owning these cards to try out options is easier with a larger collection. But you can make do. But the purpose of looking up these deckbuilds is to limit the cases where you just craft 3200 dust for some cards and you end up not even liking the deck. And that’s a lot of dust.

Mind you, playing without paying, you get rewarded for playing well and making the right decisions. But with the last few expansions undermining good play and making certain “random” or powerful cards just become more important to winning, it is quite hard to do so without some sort of frustration, unless you can understand the meta without actually having the cards to play your opponent’s decks. Not everyone will be well equipped or have the patience to stick with this.

Eg: You can understand somewhat how to play against Highlander Mage by facing it enough and knowing their important cards - but it’s a completely different feeling when you own the deck yourself and play it, and then face an opponent playing a similar build later on.

I also have these decks that I built that can do better than a Classic deck but have mostly commons and a few rares:

These may need updating, since there have been rounds of cards nerfs since then.
I also have Budget Rogue and Priest builds that I haven’t added yet.

80% of the expansion rotation I cant actually play ranked past silver. First week you seem to only get matches against people who have paid hundreds to get every card and you dont have half the necessary legendaries to even contest a game.

IMO they are making decks too dependant on singular epic or leggo cards, DH being a great example of this. Galakrond was actually a good move to give everyone the core important cards from the expansion, probably had way more fun that exp than any other recently.

Slightly off topic but the attempt to monetize battlegrounds is also disgusting, if you pay a ridiculous fee for a BETA GAME MODE you get an observable increase in winrate and access to the most OP heros in the pool currently.

Wont be playing this game for much longer I expect, happy to never give blizzard a penny again after their continued bending of the knee to the chinese genocide of muslims and oppression of the people of Hong Kong, Tibet, Taiwan and any other nation we dont hear about.

What kind of advice is that for a new player? Wild is an untamed soup of massively overpowered cards, decks and strategies. It is not fun or engaging to play against any number, of many, OTK decks in wild, for players like myself who have been here since the beginning. let alone for players just seeing the game for the first time.

Are you and I even playing the same game? I mean, I see your post here in the Hearthstone forums, but are you actually playing Hearthstone?

You can have fun as a F2P player if you focus on building at best 1 or 2 decks each expansion. You cannot afford to do otherwise.

Just be honest with yourself however.
Don’t expect to get very high without playing the top decks, which means getting that credit card.

OP didn’t say they were new.

Is it just me, or does that go beyond the scope of Hearthstone?

As for me, i’m tossing this game on the backburner. Let it sit for maybe a day or two. Then clear the quests. Get my cardback once a month.

The only drawback to F2P is that you aren’t likely to be competitive AND keep all your cards. Dusting the old to fill in the new each xpac is the only way to be competitive.

That said. You asked if it was FUN! YES! You can have as much fun as you want. There are a ton of cheap decks that you can build within a week or so.

Let us know what kind of play style you enjoy. Fast, long, little card play, a lot of card play… etc… People have already linked deck list sites I see. HSReplay is good to help you figure out how much dust it would cost to build X deck with what you have already.

Enjoy yourself.

If this person is not new to the game then they are acting like they are new to the game. What veteran player would be playing a classic deck? Just saying.

Someone who hasn’t played in a while so most (or all) of their expansion cards rotated, for one. Yes, Classic decks are terrible, but if that’s the best you can do, I wouldn’t be surprised if people did try to make them work.

I’ve been playing for years. I’m always at Diamond5-legend. I’ve spent less than 50 bucks over more than 5 years, pretty much only on solo adventures that offer cards, but it was totally unnecessary. It bugs me that people always say this game is pay to win. There are very few truly free games that offer fun and a competitive environment and this is one of them.

Do your quests, disenchant to make new cards, do tavern brawl. You should be able to get at least one pack per day from wins and quests

Even as a f2p player you will be able to build some competitive decks over time, win, and even get to Legend rank if that’s fun for you.

However, if your source of fun is variety, then unfortunately f2p players don’t have the luxury of playing whatever they like whenever they like, because it’s pretty impossible to get full collection without paying.

I guess the question is, is this game fun? Which is highly subjective.

What i really wanted was the 500 win hero skin for rogue. It was my highest wins. I was about 130, got to 180 wins, but i hit a brick wall. I got defeated very harshly, i didn’t even understand what happened.

So yeah, going casual.
