Hearthstone is crappier than it was in 2022

I posted the following thread in 2022:

And HS has only gotten worse since then. Despite many players touting the mini set as one of the best ones to come out in years, I have the opposite opinion, because it just continues to amp up the bad design trends of years past with:

1). More outrageous Powercreep
2). A plethora of badly balanced cards
3). Increased mana cheat for powerful cards.
4). Decreased player agency
5) Increased amounts of uninteractive gameplay
6). Spells on a stick. So many minions now have powerful effects built into them that they out-value the impact of many spells. Why play a spell when I can get even better results from playing a minion?
7). Class identities have becoming increasingly blurred.
8). Skill continues to become less and less of an important factor as luck, RNG, and broken cards or combos played first are all more likely to determine the outcome of a match.

I have watched the Blizzard devs repeatedly, slowly destroy what was good about their best games over and over again. I left Diablo, StarCraft, and WoW for these reasons, and HS will probably be next. A cultivated lack of faith in Blizzard has caused me to not even try Overwatch, Rumble, or the last couple of Diablo games. As a result, my current mindset is that I do not want to spend a single penny another Blizzard game, because I am weary of the constant disappointment. microsoft started spamming me with advertisements this week for their new game, Avowed, which I am not even sure if I a want to even bother with taking a look at the game —that’s how low my confidence in Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard is.

I gave early, good feedback on problems with Mercenaries and Duels, which was ignored, and both those modes are now gone.

I jumped into playing Standard today, and what a crappy mode it has become. Everyone that I personally know, who had played HS has left the game, and they show no signs of ever wanting to return to it.

I do not begrudge players who are still enjoying the game, but I wonder how many of these people will still be playing HS two years from now.

It’s becoming increasingly harder for me to hope that HS will improve any more, and I am down to playing a handful of games each day, since as the mini-set has had a terrible impact on Arena. It’s possible that I need to take a break from the game or should abandon it (and Blizzard) altogether—and I feel close to doing so.

I think there are a lot of great players that provide fantastic insight and feedback about HS, and I think they should be even more vocal about the direction of the game’s development, because I do not thinks the devs have what it takes to improve the game in light of the patterns that continually make the game worse. They need all the help they can get.

I currently believe HS is not worth spending money on, and I expect buyer’s remorse to become a huge problem for Hearthstone’s future over the next few years.

If you’re that unhappy just leave.

Nothing you post here will even register on their screen outside of stuff that’s removed for flags… and that’s not being shown to devs.

Such as? Everybody is complaining but nobody providing helpful ideas and constructive feedback.

They do not.

Why do you think the only place they have a community manager and dev comments is on reddit?

Have you been to reddit?

Except for all the people that aren’t complaining and are just enjoying the game… who don’t feel the need to come here and talk about it because, well, they’re too busy playing.

Seems about the same to me.

Some things are true, some are not.
Game designers are watching the forums, they just choose not to interact. It’s a widespread modus operandi in the video game industry.
The complaints of the users don’t matter unless its something gamebreaking and / or doesn’t alter the game’s bussiness plan. The priority is bussiness first, users second ( if the ship goes down, all the passengers go down also ).
One of the reasons that makes the difference between HS now and HS some years back is the reality that we live in. HS now is designed for mobile mostly, and that needs fast pace games and powercreeping. I’m not doing an apology for the devs, they have to adapt to the society also.
Im also saying that its normal to complain but 90% of the complaints are just rants that have little to no truth in them whatsoever.

30.2.2 was the nail in the coffin. It made me quit and start deleting my collection. Anyone familiar with that patch knows what terrible, terrible change sparked that response.

The apprentice had been dodging the nerf bat for years. Without that change that deck would have always been dominant especially with all the animation canceling that was going on while it was playable.

I think the problem is that there is an incompetent developer team behind the game for a while now and they started to kill it slowly by their mindless card design and the worst is… all of their new ideas are bad because they are not capable of planning them properly. They are just try to design in an environment which they are not able to control. They are just making huge mistakes after mistakes… If they will create such unfair mechanics again like removers and tons of board clears… I will stop playing too thats for sure, won’t suffer for another year. I could tell you a lot of examples when the game started to be worse and worse… but already did it too many times and nothing changed to a positive direction. (mana cheat - endless card generating - too much Armor and HP build - Too many AOE, removers hand manipulation - too much RNG manipulation - insane fast and strong aggro because of mass buffs - unlimited control - OTK- Too much face dmg too easily) The game has been optimized for 10 year old kids now partly and thats how they killed WoW too… When kids showed up in 5-10 man instance groups who had no idea about the strategy but their first word was “timed”… Thats was the point where WoW started to die.

He was talking about people with experience on card games, people which the game is their job not the average joe. I am on the same page as you, straight up complaining without any signs of constructive critisism leads nowhere.

Well Battlegrounds is better than Hearthstone base today. It’s faster and more inventive especially since it’s a new meta and most people aren’t following a script.

Constructed Standard is a boring festival of copy-pasting zerg dks and super aggro decks.

10 year olds are still learning basic multiplication, spelling and word definitions. To suggest its designed for that age group is heinously wrong. How many 10 year olds even know what startcraft and world of warcraft is? Let alone play a fan favorite spin off of a minigame in WoW…

It seems to me that they are putting out too many cards sets to quickly. The game has been over-saturated with too many cards. I’ve uninstalled and won’t come back.

Too many card sets? The game hasn’t had significantly more cards since Galakrond’s Awakening and the introduction of mini-sets in 2020.

YES, I count 30 yes THIRTY different sets…

The game is nearly 11 years old with 3 main sets a year, what do you expect?

If you try Magic you’ll find the sets have even more cards than HS…

Of course it’s worse then it was in 2022. When every new expansion is the worst thing ever how can Hearthstone ever be better than it was in the past. It can only get worse as more worst expansions ever come out.
