Extraordinary support response

I just wanted to share this bizarre reply from support. Yesterday I bought one pack of each of the old sets where I hadn’t obtained all the common cards - Kobolds, WotOG, Rumble, etc. I knew the anti-duplicate rule would mean I’d complete my missing commons (as I only needed four or fewer in each set). It worked for six sets but not for TGT, which was the last pack I opened.

This is the ticket that I opened yesterday:

“I received two duplicate commons in a Grand Tournament pack I opened today. I received one rare that I needed, two commons I didn’t have two of, and two that I did already have two of. Since I still have only one Murloc Knight and only one Dalaran Aspirant, I expected to receive those instead of the duplicates (which were both Living Seeds or Living Spores or whatever it’s called).”

[It’s actually Living Roots.]

Here’s the reply I received today:

"Hiya Chris!

Specialist Game Master **** here! Thank you for your patience while your ticket was waiting to be answered and I hope that this message finds you well this morning.

I can confirm that there are not any confirmed bugs with the Hearthstone Duplicate Protection systems that we have in place and that you received the correct cards. You will not receive more than one copy of a Legendary card, until you have owned all the Legendary cards in that card expansion. Similarly, you will not receive more than two copies of any Common, Rare, or Epic card until you have owned two copies of all cards of that rarity in that card expansion.

For example, if you have two Knife Jugglers (rare card from the Classic set) you will not receive another Knife Juggler until you’ve owned two of every other Rare card from the Classic set.

Crafting a card counts towards owning it, and any cards you disenchant (whether golden or non-golden) count as well. This means that if you get a card that you don’t want, you can disenchant it and you will not receive it again until you have all cards of that rarity from that card expansion.

Cards that you disenchanted before March 26, 2020 do not count towards duplicate protection.

I want to make sure you are completely fixed up, so let us know if we can be of any more help. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to take care of you! I hope the rest of your day is equally awesome! Have fun! (ó ì_í)=ó ò=(ì_í ò) (Social Distance Fist Bump!!!)

Bonus Joke!!!

Why did the Rogue use a Knife Juggler in his Deck?

…Cause he was a Fan of Knives! \m/(>_<)\m/"

… commendable response time, but it simply refuses to acknowledge the fact of what happened. I have never disenchanted either a Murloc Knight or a Dalaran Aspirant, so for whatever reason, the no-duplicates rule didn’t work. How do Blizzard think it’s ok to send a response like this?? I have replied as follows:

“Hi ****, thank you for taking the time to reply but I’m afraid your denial of my experience is not ok. Please look at my collection online - you will see that I have four Living Roots, one Murloc Knight and one Dalaran Aspirant. Are you suggesting that I made this up, and crafted myself two extra Living Roots (or disenchanted a second Murloc and Aspirant) in order to open a fake ticket?? I’m sure the duplicate protection code is both mature and tested, but it did not work on this particular occasion. I’m not really fussed about the 70 dust it will cost me to correct it, but I thought you might appreciate the bug report. A flat denial of the facts is both ludicrous and insulting. Thanks.”

You may wish to edit your post recanting any GM names or ticket numbers. I believe you can get into trouble. You may also want to post this in the bug report forum.

Done - thank you. Will try to work out how to repost without contravening anything else!

On March 26, 2020, Living Roots’ rarity was accidentally changed from Common to Epic and the regular card could be disenchanted for 100 dust instead of the normal 5. The disenchantment problem was fixed on March 27 following a server-side hotfix.

What appears to have also happened is that the card was flagged as uncollected even for those who still have it. This causes Living Roots to be found even if there are still other missing commons.

I think this is exactly what happened, weird bug

Thank you, that’s almost certainly the explanation. Very interesting!
