Dear Designer's

Looking at the awesome Hero cards the Evil classes got.

All get nice minion support.
All get(when fully evoked) a nice weapon
All get a Hero power they can build around to
All get a battlecry thats pretty darn good

So here we can say. Well nice job! It even was so good you needed to nerf a little and still they are awesome.

Then i started to get hope. That the goodguy classes aka explorers. Would get some neet hero to… for me i tought they all would get the same kinda shared hero like evil classes with some support. Well then.

ANNOUNCEMENT: RENO MAGE HERO CARD…

Crowd goes wild!!! Hero battle cry. Poof all minions disappear. Everyone speculates.
OMG.

Maybe the hero power is to return one of those minions back on our side of the board at random!! People cheering!!

Or maybe discover one of those enemy minions and summon it. Crowd goes beserk!!!

People go on and off about how awesome it can come.

Then the REVEAL!! By some dev tru a Twitter account spread by the community… almost if it was posted on Wikileaks…

HERO POWER: cast 1 random spell(of all classes)

The crowd goes wild!!! Of profound shock and awe… slumbering into a deep state of denial and then after some therapy realising that mage gets.

A hero card

With a good battle cry.
Worse possible hero power ever!
No hero support cards… (only for casino mage… yogg/puzzle/deckofw)

Why? what did mages did to thou to make one of the most legendary HS characters have a Hero power that makes him the kid they dont choose in child games…

I am waiting what Paladin will get.
Expecting something like. HERO POWER: give a random minion divine shield if its a enemy minion also give it 5+5

I cannot be surprised anymore.
I don’t think they roll. But rather tumble.
Which doesn’t matter to them, because they have their own Scrooge McDuck vault full of cash.

Agreed. Most of the card releases i am not surprised and or adventures… but Hero cards like this. Well naively i was…

Wish they would compensate my mental damag they caused with the key for that vault

I love to play Casino Yogg Deck of Wonders Clownfiesta Fun Mage!

Really excited for next week when he finally becomes playable. (Outside of random card generation by Burgle Rogue against a Mage.) One of the best cards ever made in my opinion! Really glad they didn’t do a “tryhard” card.

The only downside is that it makes Raid the Sky Temple less relevant in such a fun deck. Why do this quest if eventually you’re going to play the Amazing Reno with a much cooler Hero Power? But maybe that’s a good thing? The problem with Hero Cards though is that unlike those new quests you might draw it very late and thus making it less consistently fun.

All the cards are already revealed. Unfortunately none of the other Explorer classes got a new Hero.

Then we sit back and watch as this wins a world championship through some clown fiesta that robs the opponent of what looked like an almost assured victory until the stars aligned with a string of 10 random Reno cards rolling the best possible outcome. Then the post game interview and all that can be said is “That’s Hearthstone.”

They’re called ‘wow!’ moments. /s

They’re also why I refuse to take Hearthstone too seriously.

You’re just taking this game too seriously.

At least I for one only want to have fun with cool and awesome stuff happening. Who cares for winning when you have fun just playing the game. Much better if you ask me.

I dunno how the devs managed to mess up so bad recently. At the time of DoD announcement, I was so hyped. Dragons looked awesome, galakronds looked awesome, everything looked awesome.

DoD release, gala shaman which they left way under touched ruined the first week, next week they nerf probably the worst cards possible as always. Then the meta gets rogued and warriored to death, they make pretty good nerfs but still don’t really redeem themselves.

Then they announce awakening. Looks awesome, they of course clickbait the hell out of the Reno hero, and show off like 4 other cards and set out a not bad but still
Meh preorder deal with no card back. Then they decide to reveal just how trash the Reno hero is, as well as the fact that the other good classes weren’t getting hero cards just a few days before preorders close, after everyone already preordered assuming there would be hero cards for the good classes and completly betraying the trust of the consumers by creating an adventure full of garbage cards, but not showing just how bad the cards are untill just before release.

Guess who’s not preordering next expansion after only missing 1 preorder in the last 2 years.

Hold on a sec man. Agreed fun is very fun.

But every game in human history is based on winning and i think 90% of human beings like winning… there is no way in hell that playing a game and losing constantly makes it fun.

So there need to be a balance in fun and competitive play… and cards like Reno are fun yeah but to much and you take away competitive play. And mage got enough Random Drunks!! Sorry man, cant have enough of you sexy man… i ment random generated Cards to seriously need some competitive cards to balance out things.

And we all know hero cards are build around cards… like galakronds…

Fun yeah winning yeah… losing sure but not to much thank you

so what ? most people wait until all cards are revealed to pre order anyway

It’s not like you don’t make any meaningful decisions even though it may sometimes feel like that. I would even say to deal with an unpredictable situation is even more important to have skill and be good at the game. You just have to take the odds and do what is best in the current situation. And it certainly is much more interesting with RNG and Discover effects. That’s really what I love about it most: It’s not the same boring stuff over and over again.

And I almost forgot: I like actually playing the game (winning only as a goal to go for) and RNG can not only help get you out of a desperate situation, it also can push you back down if you’re too far ahead and the other wouldn’t have any chance. Of course for tryhards that’s not a good thing, but if you’re just trying to have fun…

Every game is based winning? Really? How about improving a skill like learning a new language as a “game”? There’s not really something to “win” except if you want to see it that way. The important thing is you’re just constantly improving upon yourself and do not try to beat others doing the same.

But to be fair you may not call this a “game”. I still think it’s important that all people involved have fun in what they’re doing and indeed losing is not fun. But why care so much about it when instead you can just enjoy the game itself regardless of whether or not you win?

I personally really just like playing the game and winning is just like calling it a day. It has to end eventually and to go for the win is a relevant objective you can follow through the game. But in no way would I fanatically focus upon winning because that way I wouldn’t enjoy about half of the games because I lost.

Well I disagree entirely, especially if this game wishes to be taken seriously as an esports title, the devs need to stop adding in so many rng luck cards and mage certainly didnt need any more rng than it already has, it needs consistency.

Yeah, I can see we are just different there then. I personally dislike the competitive side of Hearthstone like this esports garbage.

This seems to be the great divide amongst the playerbase these days. I’ve seen several pro players go on rampages about how RNG allows for such massive seings that remove player agency (such as the ability to nearly guarantee success by playing around what you KNOW your opponent is capable of) from the game, whike more casual players such as myself are having a fantastic time enjoying the game.

Unfortunately, a game being a visble esport means an absulte crapton of money coming in from various avenues which further interests investors, which even further bumps up the cash intake, etc. It’s all about those dollars when it comes tohow you build and market your game these days and while Hearthstone makes a strong effort to appeal to all parties, giving the casuals the zany RNG/Discover effects that can only come from a digital ccg tends to step all over the toes of those who want to take the game 100% seriously and compete for hours each day.

Idk what there is to hype about a hero card that is basically the ultimate board clear. What is so exciting or novel about clearing boards? Okay, so they can’t be resurrected…that comes in handy maybe 1 out of 10 games if you’re lucky. It’s very boring card design.

 This is what we need.

I don’t care if some “tryhards” want to play this game (more) “competitively” as long as I can play it as the fun RNG Clownfiesta which I love. A “tryhard” might not even enjoy playing against someone who doesn’t take the game “seriously”. And people that just play for fun might not enjoy if they meet a “tryhard” that plays only OP/broken stuff to win the game. It would be better for all.
